So my belt snapped while downshifting as I was approaching a red light. Didn't notice that it had snapped and while at the stop tried, admittedly harder than i probably should have to shift into first because i assumed it was just in neutral. Obviously that was not the problem; replaced the belt with no problems but now the shift lever wont shift up into a higher gear. I can occasionally get it into neutral but as soon as I try and shift into first i get a very loud grinding from the case that holds the primary belt(crank case?). Any ideas? This is my first motorcycle and I'm at a loss. | ||

Probably busted the detent clip, do Shift pawl adj and new detent plate and add two clips - not one. Make drum pins all equal lengths. EZ | ||

Thanks for the response EZ, any idea where I can find a detent plate? The internet is looking rather barren right now. | ||

Scratch that I found a detent plate that i'm reasonably sure is the correct one Part # 33656-90A? Now I'm having trouble finding the clips... | ||

Alright so i took everything apart and the detent plate is pristine. I tried to shift manually with everything opened up and I still can't get it to move out of first. I was going to try and do a shift pawl adjustment but it has to be in third to do that, correct? I'm not really sure where to go from here. | ||

Do the drum pin length check - max is 0.335 - any longer put a drop of red locktite at base of pin and gently tap into desired length,then put detent plate on with two clips and then try rocking bike forward just a tad to try and get in gear - I used a towel and a vicegrip on the shift shaft - up close to get as much force into the shift as possible - after the shiftpawl adj. it should be much easier.
