Happy New Year! A few themes going around, that I am interested in. Definitely Dan's intake. But I will be looking for a new Battery this year. HD = 65948-00 or Yusasa YTX-14BS. YTX14H-BS (Hi-Perform) 98.45 or EZ, your battery looks nice and lite. But just as expensive as the HD. Worth the price. or any others I might look at? Also a Superbrace. I see the 35mm on the website. OR the Crossroads. Both about the same? And the Tridon EP-36 Flasher for LED upgrades later on. Will that work with my stock lights that are on now? thanks. |

Super Brace is better. Buy the one for the Blast! |

Got the Black Blast running yesterday. Bought a used carb, gave it a quick clean and it starts, idles and accelerates just fine now. I'm going to try the boil it in a slight vinegar solutions from the new Cycle World trick on the old one. Kevin |

Foor the Blast get either the Blast specific or the one for the 690 KTM - which is smaller in size. Same amount of juice. Only a few ounces weight difference. EZ |

From the mouth of Erik Buell - if one where to use the XBRR top end - piston, jug, head and a good cam - that would be good for 75 hp - we need to start our own pirate club! - lol EZ |

Thanks - it took a long time to rebuild the bike but now that I'm done, I can ride it - so I probably won't be on the forums as much though, however, with a second Blast to Build - I'll still be spending some time online as well - lol EZ |

What sort of life have folks been getting out of their batteries? Mine is an '07 and still has the original, with no signs of giving up, but when it is not in use it is on a maintainer. Any idea how much longer this could last or what symptoms it will give off before it fails? ______________________ Firing Order: 1 |

A well maintained battery could last ten years, but usually they fail much earlier, with 3 to 5 years being a fair average. Usually a cell weakens and dies, then battery won't hold a charge. EZ |

The bike has been in the garage for the last 3 months. With gas in it. And some Sta-bil. I have been starting it every week and riding it up and down the back-alley. The other day I road insured it for the year. As I have Dan’s intake on the way. Rode it about 10 kms, to fill the tires, got gas. 94 Grade Supreme No Ethanol. Only $5.00 worth. Thought that would be best. Today, I started it and smelled Gas. Then the bike stopped. And would not start. I looked for a leak. With the gas lever turned ON. It looks like a Pulsing of gas from the carb, little spurts of gas flow. From the 2 bottom holes. With the gas lever turned off. It stops. Is it the new gas? Jets and carb looked very clean, only a few months ago. New gasket & boot, 6 months ago.

"With the gas lever turned ON. It looks like a Pulsing of gas from the carb, little spurts of gas flow. From the 2 bottom holes." One of the holes in the front of the carb is air intake jet for idle mixture circuit, the other is vent for the float bowl. http://tuneyourharley.com/biketech/content/carbure tor-troubleshooting-guide |

Float Needle is likely stuck or clogged open or bad float. A few good raps on the carb float bowl with the handle of a screwdriver will often knock things loose and back into place. If gas still flows out, pull the float bowl and check needle and seat for obstructions and function. If that seems good and gas still flows, pull the float and make sure it's not filling with gas. |

That is a good link patches. I did read, a few raps, may do it. Weird, these things happen. Many thanks. |

I tapped the Carb a few times. And the bike started up. Got a few Coughs, about 35 secs into the Idling. But went for a 20 min ride and it seems, ok. Just a few gas spots on the carb, when home (pic). Must have been some ghosts. lol. ; ). I have Dan's full intake kit/superboot in the mail soon. And will re-do the jetting as per his specs 48/180. Looking forward to that project. thanks for the help.

48/180 might be a tad on the rich side. |

I hear you. That is what I sort of thought. What I have done to the bike so far is in my profile marksblast I am running a 45/175 with the Jardine RT-1. Now, I have ordered Dan's 'set up' he said, go 48/180. I am reading and following all of bad weather bikers and buell riders online info. Soaking it all in. I will start with Dan's recommendation. Go from there. What would you say? 48/175? I could get a 46. And what are the signs for running 'a tad rich'? thanks |

You may not notice it at all. But too rich adds wear to the cylinders. You'll notice it in acceleration and exhaust note. The higher the note, the leaner the mixture. Low note, rich mixture. It's all trial and error unless you have an air/fuel mixture gauge or put it on a dyno. The higher you are above sea level, the leaner you'll need to be. Recommended specs get you close, but it's up to you to get closer with fine tuning. But close is good enough for most. Have you shimmed the needle yet? If you haven't, then a 48 will may suit you just fine and the 180 might be okay. It's really a small difference and can cost you 1-2 horsepower either way, in different parts of the rpm range (for the average stock carb). |

Thanks for that info. I am on the west coast. Right at Sea Level. I will, and would like to fine tune. I'm 50 and having fun, making this new bike the best it can be... : -) I bought the Yost Rev.1 Kit. Put in the Tube, spring and blue needle ( middle) with the gold shim from the kit. I will take that 1-2 horsepower if I can get it. I'll play. Why not. I have a great ear. I'll look up the a/f gauge or dyno. Good Friday... |

I am in Vancouver, BC. Just north of Seattle. Never really go more than 1000 ft above sea level. I guess, I'll call Dan then & add a 46 too my order. Thanks BTW. EZ I love love that Headlight. I wanted your last one. Now, I want this one ; -)). Very effective. I also saw the price, ouch. It is this model. Rivera Primo HedLED All LED Phase 2 Head Lamp - 7in. 1116-0200. It will take me till fall to figure how to wire it ; -). |

Actually wiring is ultra simple, plugs in using stock light plug and then has two wires on each side for the signals that you wire up to the signal wires - done. Easiest light install I've ever done. EZ
