Actually the gaskets will work just fine. I had the same leak and tore it down last winter. Used the XL kit and it worked just fine. Not a leak anywhere. It is a one piece metal type gasket as opposed to two fiber/ paper ones. Just make sure to read back thru the KV and read the wisdom of those who have done it before. It helped me alot.

I called the parts guy today and he verified that this (#17036-91) is what the catalog calls out for a 2002 Blast rocker box gasket kit.
Thanks to all who responded to my questions.

You can also buy it by the piece. If I remember correctly I only paid 14.00 or so dollars.

Yup, you CAN get them individually. I'm rebuilding my bike (long story), and its cheaper to get a top end kit and store the unused gaskets than to buy the gaskets seperate.

Hey, can anyone recommend a good HD/Buell dealer that they trust near NYC? I've heard horror stories and I've heard praises, so I figure I should get a testimonial or two...

Thanks,

Mike

I hear my home away from home - Daytona is drowning - Their name is Alien Lights with optional fairing - I got them from Wild Hair - who imports them from a group in Germany - I can't honestly say if they make them anymore but Wild Hair would know, I have kept on the look out for cool fairings and have a link to different sites posted that carry some cool fairings including several different German groups posted in the Links to Stuff you can't find here section of the Thumper Knowledge Vault.

The Megatech Anthrax is a real eye catcher - maybe for the red - black with a red wind screen

There's some cool stuff out there - take a look around.

i am new, gracious to your site, and in need of help!!!

just got used 01 blast, 2700miles. the bike would run fine for 25min, then begin to backfire and lose power then die. it will not start again until after 30minutes (sometimes it would take a trip home in the back of a truck from a friend rescuing me b4 it would start again) replaced coil, spark plug & wire tonight (after letting it sit for a week). i started it up, let the engine warm, and went maybe a 1 1/2 minutes until it popped once, lost power and died. really concerned now because it is not even making it out of the neighborhood!! and at least for this evening it is not going to start back up!!

i have been diligently reading the knowledge vault, it is a lot of info!!! the intake boot looks to be in good shape. oil consumption, okay...
could this still be an electrical problem? should the carb be disassembled?

Sounds like an electrical problem - though I would do the brake cleaner spray around the intake boot to be sure - if that shuts it off or tries to - replace boot. You may want to try a fresh battery as well. Still it could be several things - will it idle?

Is it a California model? (do yo live in CA?).
Clogged gas tank vent line (or California model charcol canister problem)or bad ignition module are the first things that come to mind.
There are other causes for shut down but none seem to fit the scenario you described. (after my 2 minute evaluation!)

The general diagnostic procedure is to check for fuel, spark & compression. We'll assume you have done this since you've replaced the plug, coil & wire.Unfortunately, it can still get spark with a bad ignition module, just weak or at the wrong time.
Keep us posted!

OK, Heres a question for you:

When you hold the trip meter reset button down and turn the key on, different numbers are displayed, 1-10 depending on how many times you push the button down. What does this represent?

The Big Kid swears that his top end is reduced when he has it set on the lower numbers.

I have seen the number change but have not rode it while the numbers were at any of the different settings so I can not verify his claims.

Swampy those are diagnostic codes. You can find out what all the numbers mean in the shop manual. I do not have mine with right at this time.

How is wheel base measured? is it from far edge of tire to far edge of tire for total length of bike? or is it from axle to axle? I need to know exactly how long an '01 blast is from far edge of bike to far egde of bike. Anybody know??

Thanks!

I was looking on the Buell website for the total length spec (none given) but it gives the HP rating as 34 @ 7500 rpm. Am I late on this? Have they changed something? And does that mean it has new valve springs and a new rev limiter?

Maybe they didn't use a stock ignition for the test. Would explain their own rear wheel dyno showing stock 26 at the rear when using the comparo from the Pro series - figured it was a typo - stock Blast springs couldn't take that - they float at 6800 - anyone got an 04 they want to put on a dyno to find its rev limit - lol

The specs given on the Buell site are for the 2005 model year. I doubt they have been listing them wrong for 5 years. Maybe they finally got wise & went with XB valve springs and who knows what else they changed? Cams? Its just good news that they are improving the bike.

Oh, and btw, EZblast, remember that problem I was having with the Blast? It's all fixed. There was some water in the float bowl, so emptied that out, and blew out the jets. She runs like a champ now! The wife is happy. She can learn to ride now. The idea of trying to learn how to ride on 100+HP Bike(My S3T with the race kit) wasn't real appealing to either of us : )

Back among the living, but not the riding quite yet. Had another accident, on 101 Southbound headed to work about a week and a half ago. First day back at work, mostly okay.
Bike is mostly okay, will run. Needs a little work, not much. Have to order rearsets now, since right footpeg bracket is bent. Both brakes work, it's just hard getting to the rear brake, since the toepeg broke off and the lever is right underneath the timing cover. lol...
BTW... Anybody know whether the bar holding the tail section is actually an IMPORTANT frame member, or is it just holding the tail on? In other words, do I need a new one, or can I "straighten" it with a rubber mallet? (It's the bar that is attached to the frame by a bracket, not the frame itself, and it's just the right side...)
Oh, one other thing: HJC helmets are very good. I'm wondering when they're gonna start paying me for crash-testing them, though... lol...

I'm glad your 'okay'.
The tail frame is an important member if you are carrying passengers, otherwise you can take it off and hammer it back.My was bent, but the main frame is also tweaked ever so slightly.
I think you'll need something more than a rubber mallet though to bend it.A BIG rubber mallet maybe!
