New to Buell and just picked up a 2002 Blast last night. Just a bit of a toy to work on and ride. It needs a bit of fixing. The tires are cracked, Rear wheel bearing exposed and some oil is leaking. It also needs a general tune-up. I don't think the last owner ever cleaned it let alone did any regular service.    | ||

We know that the BLAST! is a little bike, but I really doubt that you "picked it up" ... may we asked what you paid ??? When I bought my 2002 a few years ago for $2000 I never even considered talking the guy down ... considered it a good bargain. I've put on several thousand great miles since then and loved it. 'course we ride the big Honda Goldwing when we go on trips out of town. Hope you can make repairs and get new tires quickly and inexpensively ... Welcome! Yes, easy fixes!! First: Do Not replace with Dunlop tires. Repeat: No Dunlops. Pirellis are best -MT75s are stock replacements. Second: Do Not take the carb apart "to give it a good cleaning", it doesn't need it. You have been warned!! | ||

I picked this one up for $1200. The oil leaks worried me the most when buying. I like the MT75 tires. I found a gasket kit "Buell Hardware Gasket Kit $52.15 (Part #17054-00Y) This is a Engine Rebuild Gasket Kit. Fits a 2000-2002 P3 Buell Blast" I need to finish off my Bandit and sell it. | ||

The PVC valve grommet leaks frequently and it can make quite a mess. It should fit snug to the valve cover and the PVC valve. They get hard and loose. Clean things up and use 20w-50 oil, then look for the leaks. | ||

So fixed one leak. Pipe from oil in frame tank to engine was leaking. To get to it I had the tank off. Didn't fit the fill hole cap tight. Then I decided to start the motor and see if it leaked still. No leak from fix. The volcanic eruption pouring out the fill hole was nasty. Lots of cleaning to do. Lesson learned. Only 10 or so seconds but loads seemed to come out. Need to buy oil. | ||

CAUTION: the Blast uses very little oil - 1.5 for an oil change. Very easy to overfill which will cause a volcanic eruption!!! Check oil when hot-only add 4oz at a time. Between lines on dipstick is about 8 ounces! | ||

Well I pulled the rear wheel to get the new tire installed. The bearing on the belt side just fell out all by itself. The casting has defects in it. Now I need to find something to hold the bearing in. Shop mentioned a locktite product. Anyone had this problem ?? ideas. Thanks | ||

JB Weld. Seriously. Done it and raced on it. Others have also done it and it was passed on to me. Loctite won't do it. | ||

I would still replace the bearing though. Not that you have to, but I'd do it. | ||

OK rear wheel bearing and tire done. Now the front axle nut will not move. Bent a screw drive trying to hold the axle with the air gun. Lots of penetrating oil used. Sitting and waiting. | ||

Sounds like it's seen some heavy corrosion time :-( Don't forget the anti-seize when you put the axle back through. The axle shouldnt spin if the pinch bolt is tight. | ||

Alright front wheel finally played nice. Stupid setup for getting the caliper off. I ended up removing one brake pad to get it out. Dropped rim off last night should be ready this morning. My wife and friends wife don't like the bike. Since I bought it for them to try out and learn on it will be going back up for sale. I already have a dl650, bandit 600, cb400t, cm450e and or scooters. I just sold my 3 cb350 honda projects. | ||

Actually the caliper comes off when you remove the 2 bolts. Everything else is a waste of time. Believe it or not, you can actually pull the front wheel without removing the caliper!! (But it won't go back on that way!!!) | ||

Well wheel is mounted but needs new front wheel bearings. Not in stock locally should be in Tuesday. Monday holiday for us. 2 pics. Rear tire first then front as it sits. Chain from the I beam then a 3000 lb rachet strap.   |
