First post and my first Motorcycle 2008 Blast. I already replaced the oils and was having troubles with the clutch. After making the standard adjustments I found out that it was missing the spring and lockplate. $4 parts and the ride to work was great.

Welcome! Odd parts to be missing, but glad you found the parts and got it done! |

EZ...Rex here. Any photos anywhere of anyone putting a Blast motor in an XB frame? I would like to do that one of these days.... A fellow here in Phoenix works for a concept company. His idea is to put together a motorcycle kit, that using one motor, a single blast motor, you could construct three or so different kinds of bikes. Cafe Racer, Standard, bobber, etc. sounding fun |

Rex - see the Thumper Tales - Tales from the Darkside thread - several builds in there. Also talk to ErikO/Gearheaderiko - he owns one - lol Now on to my rant about HD's stupidity: This is the beginner bike HD should have made with that engine - bet it would have sold tons - add front brakes and lights - would be a 100 lbs less - at least - a world more fun, no competition on the street to pit against it design wise, easy to convert to racing, and folks would have been proud to own it, and owners would have later moved up to an HD cruiser - while probably keeping this bike for errand running - lol - HD can't do nothing right. They had it in the palm of their hand and dropped the ball again. Perfect for a beginner bike - one seater, light, maneuverable, etc. - they just don't get it - instead they do a bad XCLR remake with brakes and hope for the best - sigh....why do I even think about them. Se below to see what I'm saying - who wouldn't want a bike like that? EZ
Add front brake and lights, kickstand - 350 lbs-sold!!!! VS. this 600lb overweight, lousy braking ill fiting 3/4 size XLCR want to be -
Rant over - this is gospel according to EZ (Message edited by ezblast on June 12, 2014) |

The Street 750 is actually 500 lbs wet. Not 600 lbs. And love or hate Harley, they actually do a lot of things right for their target demographic. They sell tons and tons of bikes, any other company would love to have their NA sales numbers. Harley will sell far more Streets as is compared to the XR style dirt track style pictured above (which I LOVE and would buy tomorrow if they sold it!). Go read up on the XR1200, which is in my opinion the best bike HD has ever made. How did that sell for Harley? (Message edited by Chief Ten Bears on June 18, 2014) |

Check this - Buell had been working on an electric bike, in fact the guy heading up the project is now a co-owner of Zero MC - http://www.zeromotorcycles.com/ All of a sudden HD's gone modern - think not - think they stole this idea from Buell - lock stock and barrel and are going to run with it as their own - http://www.asphaltandrubber.com/bikes/harley-david son-livewire-photos/#comments It looks great though - and if they can pull it in at a decent weight - they will sell tons - but original - sigh - but in the end you make my point for me - any motorcyclist says the exact same thing - they would buy the flattracker styled bike in a heart beat, the other not at all - it has too many negatives to really sell outside of the HD fold. If HD really wants to broaden their market then they should start listening to motorcyclist outside of who already walks into their showrooms - I test road one of the Streets - really - needs a lot more work even to bring it up to Blast standards - and they are going to sell it to beginners - I see many lawsuits in their future - really poor brakes being just the tip of the iceberg. On the other hand - even I like the looks of their electric - my question being - can they out do Zero MC at their own game. EZ (Message edited by ezblast on June 20, 2014) |

Cycle World has a review. The writer says it's the best electric bike he's ridden. http://www.cycleworld.com/2014/06/19/harley-davids on-livewire-electric-motorcycle-first-ride-review- photos-video/ |

I'd love to believe that considering the people behind the original design - but from a specs view point and their other reviews - the best is the Mission bike, then Zero, then HD - but it's great to see them competing in something besides t shirt sales. EZ |

I do like the bike though - and it has the suspension I want - maybe they can make it lighter with new tech coming out - that would be a real plus. I'm rooting for them - this bike could be the break they need - though they should push for the ton, because that is what everyone wants their bike to at least do - got me, but that is the magic number in the eyes if the world. Me - if it just lost a few pounds - I could be very happy indeed on it. EZ (Message edited by ezblast on June 27, 2014) |

Dumb question time... I have these mirrors on my '08 Blast, they seem to be OEM and very very sturdy. Are they adjustable, as in is there some way you can twist the mirror forward/back to raise/lower the view behind you? It doesn't seem to want to do that...

Mine twist at both the base and the plastic housing of the mirror...maybe yours are stuck or something? |

Someone probably set the mirrors to thier spec.s and then red locktighted them so they would not move - use a little force to loosen them and then tighten to your spec - may want to follow suite and blue lock tight them - lol EZ |

The photos below, of both the left and right side brackets... Does that look right, clearance wise on the left side? I was doing some wiping down and noticed that the left was much much closer to the swing arm than the right side. They don't look symmetrical, but I was interested in if anyone else's was like that? There is no rubbing or anything on the swing arm, it just seems to me very close tolerance.

Normal or slightly bent in (which is VERY common). If they are bent inwards, the pegs would angle down instead of parallel with the ground. |

Thanks Gearheaderiko, The don't seem to be angled down at all and both front and rear sit pretty parallel to my eyes... |

Finally got my blast running but it still has a few bugs. Took it for a ride last night and went on the highway to see what it could do. Traffic was a little heavy so 88 mph was about the best I could get. Plenty of power and was fun to ride. On my way home it died a couple of times. The last time I had to push it home the last couple of blocks. It gives me the impression that it is now starving for gas. The first place I'm going to look is at the petcock. It does start hard too. Thoughts? |

Check the fuel tank vent. It's not a CA Blast is it? |

It is a California Blast but the can has been removed. Confident the vent is good. tried to start it with the gas cap off with no luck. |

The can might be off, but is it properly vented? California Blasts do not easily come back to life by pulling the gas cap off. So if its not properly disconnected, you can still have problems! |

Check the LED on the module when it won't start to see if it's flashing. Although dangerous, you might have to ride with the gas cap loose to see if there's a problem with venting. If I remember correctly, the 2007's had a fuel tank rollover vent/valve recall. |

Check the ground strap and battery cables. If the clutch cable gets hot, then it's definitely a bad ground. Sta Keep us posted! |
