Buffalomike - give Ron a shout. I don't think he's terribly far from Tacoma. Here in May all three of us should meet up and do a 3-Blast jaunt :-) Ron - absolute pleasure to meet you, talk with you and ride with you. Let's do it again...I think I finished the day with 125 or so miles by the time I got home - your day was an amazing one. I'll guarantee that the CBR and Ninja didn't have the same time we did.... |

No turning back now! It is done! Best Easter present ever!!! Totally solid!! Lee and I both think that this is an awesomely stock look and at the same time totally custom. Solid mounting was the goal, so everything was re-enforced, and doubled up on, even the tabs where doubled up for durability and strength, with extra triangulation done to re-enforce the mounting! We finally finished at 4:30 AM - totally worth the time and effort, and Lee got a few goodies to take home and make Mothballs a comfier, and nicer ride as well as parts for taking RB to the next level as a Formula XBBlast! I'm happy - by the time I'm done - I'll have a modern classic Buell Blast Cafe canyon dancer, and that will be perfect for me! The new Vader is looking good! Thank you Lee! - Couldn't have done it without you! EZ |

Love it - I'll be back down there the 6th of May....I'll get ahold of you, Ron, and see how that works for both of you (Buffalomike - why don't you get ahold of Ron in the interim). |

Yes - going to make the tail a one piece unit, then paint the frame and tail, light rim, and frame and wheels, then mount latch and bottom, then electrics, then tackle the engine and cam, and oil gear, and carb. EZ (Message edited by ezblast on April 26, 2014) |

Finished modifying and fitting the Blast latch to work with the modified Corbin XBS seat - assembled the hardware to properly mount it, test mount again, then dis-assembled to paint rear frame and other parts. Now to paint and fabricate base to mount electrics on as well. EZ |

So you've solid mounted the engine? It's going to look good. for a guy with bad knees, I don't know how you do that riding position. |

Ronbob, Yeah - the 6th itself wouldn't work for me, either. Perhaps Thursday the 8th? Jay |

No - I'm making the frame one piece, and then will use a nice thick piece of diamond plate aluminum for the base - which will crossbrace and strengthen it some more, then to mount battery and stuff on it. Battery barely fits height, so the rest will fit perfectly. Just got the Blast latch fitted on and when I finish the Corbin seat mods - needs a longer tongue as well - lol - O'll post pictures of both plus some close-ups of the frame modifications needed to do this. I want everything solid and strong - that is why I had Lee add a bunch of re-enforcement to the frame mounting. EZ |

Diamond plate is a bear to work with, but I got the rough done, a little smoothing, and six large bolts later it will help stiffen up the frame considerably, and be a good base for my electronics. As you can see - my customized Crossroad rearsets have black tighter pegs in black for a more unique look. EZ

The Corbin seat is fully modified to lock in just like a Blast seat, the plate and seat locking mechanism is now installed, and the seat now locks in place and is not going anywhere. EZ

Cut the loop off - ground the paint off and JBWelded that sucker on with 1 an d 1/2 tubes of it - lol - same with the tongue using a Stanley SS 5" mending strap and two small bolts - lol - neither item is going anywhere! EZ |

Ed, I think that you are telling me that the pan is steel or some sort of metal. I wasn't sure but as heavy as the new seat is it might be cast iron. LOL |

Naw - diamond plate aluminum - mixing steel with alum without a buffer would result in bad things - all my steel bolts on Alum. have a non-ferrous washer buffering between the two metals - the whole set up is ultra light - the XBS Corbin half the weight of the Blast Corbin. Goal weight - which should be easily reached will be 325lbs - Even though very painful I've been working on it a couple hours each day, because I have a neighbor friend who rides, who is dying, and we'd like to get a ride in together before he goes. So I work it like this - 20 minutes of one task - gets painful so I go to another different type of task, I keep going till the shoulder is too pained to do anything, then I'm done for the day. Tomorrow I drill and add six nuts, bolts and washers, then dis-assemble to prep for paint, next day finish prep for paint, next day paint, next day paint, next day paint, then reassemble - two days at least, add parts, then engine rebuild, carb rebuild, wire in gauges - turn key and go. There are so many little details not mentioned, but they are all part of what to do when it's too painful to do plan A. EZ |

Thumpe made me a custom brace - ultra stiff - to replace the fender, 7.5 oil, Works kit, and gold valve emulators, with the ss braided line for the brakes, and the 2000 extra heim joint up front - made from the longer one. Once you get the front end up to snuff - there really is no need to trade it out - the front end on my old Blast was much more stable than the 1125CR in holding a line - so why change it? EZ |

Did you want to make the fork preload externally adjustable? Shouldn't really be necessary if you've got it set right. But..... |

Nope - that bike is just being set up for me, and though I have to watch that - because proudly enough - I'm still loosing weight - over 70lbs so far lost - lol - when I'm done with this bike, I'll be handing the left over "parts" and another title to my nephew for a project bike - he's always liked the Blast. He'll just need a hotter cam to make it scream by the time he's done - I have that many extra parts - lol - and I plan on getting him the Chinese shock to go with it. EZ |

Done! Now dis-assembly, knocking down some burs, and prep for painting, and painting - a long and boring process - the trick is not to rush it. EZ |

It's all one piece now - with the bottom bolted on, and the frame ground picked out bolted and protected - lol - all the electrics are bagged up to protect from paint - that sub-frame is now off for painting as well - front wheel comes off for painting, fender comes off - period, all that other plastic comes off - period. Everything is cleaned and prepped for painting, and painted. Then things are re-assembled for fit and finish, electrics re-installed, then tank is off and engine work and tank work begins! When all that is done - then finally the new dash and gauges will be installed. Then Vader is reborn! EZ |

Going to go modern old school - using the stock headlight mounting and trim - blacked out of course, then a h-4 55watt with amber/clear led surround lighting - half a blinker for one side - half a blinker for the other side - easy maint and crash replacement - plugs in - lol - for the rear I spent some money and got the XBLights tail light in clear with built in turn signals and plate light - the only real plastic on this bike will be the tank and plate mount, and that will look one piece and be Rhino painted for protection and to hold together the tanks body work - lol - it's starting to look like something I would ride - and - those stock blinkers are history. Spent my garage time cleaning - sprayed down frame, wheels, and engine with engine cleaner/degreaser, then hosed off thoroughly, then wiped down everything for it's primary cleaning. After this it will be cleaned specific area by specific area - as I work on that area - painting or wrenching. That was a lot of grime to come off a rat bike with 21000 freeway commuting miles on it and little cosmetic care - but the engine case and frames are basically the right color - before they where black - you probably thought I'd painted them that color - lol EZ |

Prepping finally done, any other will be as I paint - lol - that's why those body shop guys get good money - it takes forever to clean stuff and the heat has been no fun as well. Summer is going to be a bear. Sigh... EZ |

Homemade paint booth - DMX shock - about a 1/4" longer - about the same length as the Works shock - a bit narrow - will have nephew add washers to space accordingly. Quality is nice - good metal work, quality materials throughout. Will put the Works beside it when I pull it for comparo. EZ (Message edited by ezblast on May 19, 2014) |

Still painting - did second coat - frame, swing arm, sub-frame rear section, light suround bezel trim - lol - used to be chrome - took hours to prep it alone - lol - so far everything is coming out ultra dark grey - lol - one color section above the flat black I wanted - don't know if I'll stick with it or not - I may, because it would do a better job of contrasting the rest of the bike, without being bright. You'll see when I do after pictures. EZ |
