Hello My wife has a 01 Blast with 2500 miles on it. It has recently started to miss/backfire when riding on the highway after it has warmed up, been doing this for a month or so.. would just miss/backfire a few times and then be good for 20 miles and then do it again. Well last night it started acting up worse and quit running while she was riding.. it restarted 3 or 4 times but would backfire thought the exhaust and the intake when I tried to rev it up. After that it would not start at all. Ended up hauling it home in the pickup.. when we got home it ran fine. Bike is completly stock. When it was acting up before I had bypassed the kickstand switch and taken the carb apart to clean it out (it wasnt dirty at all), but it was still missing. I'm looking for any ideas?? (great site lots of good information here) thanks Darren |

Kaveman, nice bike! : ) Where'd you get the mirrors, seat, and that thing your peg is stuck to? I've recently started modifying my '01 Blast and I really like what you've done to yours. I browsed through the "Got Thump?" thread and everybody here has a unique Blast. Right now I'm in the process of painting mine a nice metallic blue. Anyone have any suggestions? I'll post a picture after work. Blasting in sunny Florida, Gren |

Gren, Seat is a Corbin. There available, but quite pricey. Mirrors are smaller Carbon look, direct bolt on. I actually will sell you this pair if you want as I have gone back to Napoleon mirrors. The footpeg(s) is a Banke rearset, which I modified to contain a piece of plexiglass, same color as the bike. Best of luck with the paintjob! Anyone know of a good paint brand for painting the plastic parts? Fender, rear section, etc... Looks like I'll be keeping the Blast as I've had 2 "tire kickers" and not much else on the sale. |

Hello All, My bike is getting dirty and I need to wash it. Is there any part of it I need to try and not get too wet? In particular, if the engine is hot, do I have to worry about cracking the cylinders? Thanks - Jim |

Thanks Scott - just got off work - I'll be able to monitor daytimes better when I get the system down, be a few weeks though - lol - Lance - let the bike cool first, and use low pressure on the water. GT - JBOTDS! EZ |

Kaveman, Holy cow that stuff is spendy. It looks nice, but I can't afford a $350 seat just yet. I think I'll stick with seeing what I can paint for now. I found some mirrors over at http://www.chaparral-racing.com/ for $20 that I might pick up. Also I need to get a K&N... looking at the Buell race cams... might as well throw in a seat while I'm at it... Too bad about selling your Blast. I talked to a guy the other day selling his Lightning. $4700 sounds good, but I just recently bought my Blast. All, I found some pics of fixing my bike awhile ago. Does everyone see enough of those around here or should I post 'em? |

Kaveman--If you're really willing to sell those mirrors, I may be interested. How are they? They look like they'd be better than the stockers (maybe see what's behind you without pulling your arms in...) |

if its the rectangular "carbon look" mirrors, i'd think twice. Yes, they do look cool, yes, they have a wider field of vision, but that does you no good if the damn things shake like Dolly Parton's ta-tas. I have a pair on my bike, and you can only tell if there is something behind you if you are in the right rpm, and at a stand-still. No way to tell how far, what it is, how fast its gaining, etc. Of course, if you don't ever look back, i guess they are ok I'm switching back to stock units (with the dampeners on the bottom) so my paranoid wife can watch behind her for trouble. |

Hello all, I'm looking at two used Blasts tomorrow ( 2002 / 2003 ) and was wondering if anyone had any tips for me ( things to check out ) that might help? This will be my first "street" motorcycle that I've ever owned, that's why I've decided to start small. Also, the 2002 is Purple ( and I'm not female nor do I want a Purple bike ), so I'll need to either paint it or look into different body panels. My local dealer quoted me over $400 for the panels, I thought I'd read they could be had for less? Anyway, any help would be great... hopefully I'll be Buelling very soon! |

Just for fun here's some pictures of when a friend of mine helped me re-jet my carb. The guy who owned my Blast before me put the carb together wrong when he jetted it. What a clown. It was a sunny Florida afternoon, so no complaints. Blasting across the Gulf Coast Gren |

Gren - great quote! - lol - Daytona still as rowdy as ever? Sphere - Ebay is a good place for body parts, the purple looks pretty nice with black celtic flames everywhere - just a bike I saw in the city - no pic, but it looked good. GT - JBOTDS! EZ |

Ez: Haven't been that way yet. Now that I have a bike I deffinately have a reason to go. I've been way to excited the last few days about painting my Blast. Trying to find a clear coat at the moment. The metallic blue looks really different. |

Mine is black. I might consider a trade. I'll have to think for a few days to decide if I want to go purple. |

Anyone ever try to put a small passenger back rest on a Blast? Point being my wife wants a Blast, we have an 8 year old son and riding him on my XB12 doesn't work well for me. Always feels like he's going to slide off. Any one try it with any success? Thanks |

Good deal. If it's still got the stock airbox, and you plan on keeping it that way, armor the oil line. If you're planning on changing to a race intake, nevermind. Enjoy yourself, the 03 is pretty much bombproof. |

Rocketsprink, the BuddyBelt, I think it is called is one of the most secure ways to ride a kid on the back. The rider wears it and kid can hang on to two love handles on the sides that make it really secure. He still has to be able to put his weight firmly on the passenger pegs, though or he's too little to come along. Ask Kim at kimberliewood@attbi.com , her son Cody came along on our SPLASH ride on Mike's Daytona and Mike wears one of these things. Of course, Cody's already a pocket bike champ, but he's still only 8 years old. |

Darren, that can also be caused by a bad ignition module. (Message edited by ezblast on August 19, 2004) |

Okay, broke my right side mirror cause I had it extremely tight, but it wasnt at the right position so I used my super human strength and broke it twisting it... I am trying to find an inexpensive replacement for my mirrors that will allow me to possibly see more behind me or at least the same as stock... key word inexpensive.. key words at least see the same as stock... anything like that or do I have to pony up the big bucks for the bar end mirrors that are like 70 a piece? |

Napoleons are about $30-$40 each (bar end or stock style). There are also cheaper mirrors available (many) just be sure they are RETURNABLE, because the cheap mirrors can suffer from low quality mirrors making them useless. |

Try the Buell Logo mirrors (same as a XB9S)$19.60 each. (actually cheaper than a replacement Blast mirror.) I use them. They work. James |

Jprovo, Are the logo mirrors any shorter than the stock ones? I mean, do they stick up higher? That's the only think I don't like about the stock mirrors. Heh, the way I'm going I'll replace all the parts on my Blast within a year. Hurray pocketbook! |
