So after a long hiatus from this forum, I wanted to share some info for the rest of you regarding the problems I ran into after doing some mods. I haven't posted here since last fall when my carb was backfiring and I put the blast in garage for the winter. I bought a stock Blast last year and upgraded to NGK Iridium plug, EZs Airbox, and V&H exhaust. I rejetted carb to 45/175 and added 2 shims but then the carb started backfiring on me. I tried removing the shims and trying different jets to no avail. After doing a lot of research here I thought it was Das Boot so I replaced it, even though it was in good shape, and still didn't help. At this point I put the bike in storage since I was at my wits end and winter was approaching. The last couple weeks I have been slowly working on figuring out the problem. As it turns out, I never adjusted the idle mixture screw and idle speed since I got the bike. After adjusting idle mixture to 3 turns out (from 2.5 turns out as it was) and increasing idle speed a tad, the bike runs great! After looking on here for months I couldn't find a post dedicated to carb backfires caused by idle mixture being out of adjustment, so I wanted to make one. It seems like the primary reason carbs backfire is because of a leak somewhere around the carb, which is usually Das Boot being ripped or not secured correctly. However I wanted to say to those who come across this problem, and Das Boot is good, adjust your idle mixture screw! Thanks to EZ and Eric for all the information they gave me before and their countless posts in this forum that steered me in the right direction. Knc52 |

Amazing, still running, after sitting so long, new premium gas, and a new boot and you'll be golden. EZ |
