OK this is my bad, just found the manufacturing primary spacer still in stack up... ( I bought bike used from HD dealership with 6k mile. Any thoughts on primary being over tensioned for so long? Should I pull spacer and adjust to specification? I don't hear that "box of rocks" sound from primary. It still performs good. Any sound or unsound advise} is greatly appreciated. |

You are OK, the spacer prevents over tightening of the primary chain. When the Blast comes from the factory the chain is loose so the new Blast will idle without having to set the idle speed way up. If you are not experiencing the rattling sound from the primary you are OK. The danger is having someone over tighten the primary chain and the chain will wear into the adjuster shoe which is plastic. Running with your primary chain too loose would be better than running with it too tight. If it is too loose it will just make noise. If it is too tight it will lug the engine down, it will mess with your clutch adjustment by deflecting the clutch basket enough to cause your clutch plates to remain in contact even though the clutch is pulled in, resulting in clutch drag, hard shifting and a lower terminal velocity. If you want to adjust it don't follow the factory service manual as it was wrong. We have a ton of good instructions here in the forum. Good Luck Welcome to the Thumper Forum |
