Hi guys , New to the forum, been lurking for awhile. Ive run into a problem. Bikes been sitting for the winter. I got it out yesterday and charged the battery. Now it wont start. Engine turns fines. When I push the start button it hesitates for a second or two before it turns. I checked and no spark. New spark plug last season. wondering if it could be the coil or the spark plug wire? Any suggestions? The hesitation turn started last summer but it always had spark and turned over. By the way it s a 2003 Buell Blast , vance hines exhaust. Thanks guys, Rich | ||

Welcome Riverpirate! Why are you starting you bike now? You are in PA, are you planning on riding it? Do not start your bike throughout the winter to just let it warm up that will do more harm than good. When you just let it warm up it does not get hot enough long enough to burn out the condensation that accumulates in the engine. Charge the battery and forgetaboutit until spring until you can ride it for at least a half hour or more. Now...on to your no-spark problem. You have a good plug? the wire is good? grounded properly? and you still don't have a spark? Check the LED on the ignition coil while you are cranking the engine over. You should see a blink on the LED everytime the sparkplug fires...or should fire. If your connections are all good I would suspect the ignition module. Testing the coil is easy, just jump/brush 12v across the primary winding and you should get a spark at the plug, don't hold 12v on it more than momentarily other wise bad things can happen. But do the easy things first, LOOK at the LED! Good luck and let us know what you find. | ||

Well I was going to go riding yesterday. Yes it was cold , but the sun was out and it was nice. Had a itch that needed scratching,lol. Battery is dead again from trying to start it. Im going to go buy a new one this week anyways. The old on is a few years old so time for a new one anyways. I know i unhooked the sparkplug wire and stuck a new spark plug in it, cranked the engine over holding it to the cylinder case and got no spark. I didnt know about the LED light. I'll have to check it when I get the new battery. Thanks for the response |
