Bmhd: EZ mentioned the shifter shaft seal. Unless it was leaking, you should not have to replace it. You may do more harm than good by replacing it if its not bad (ie: damaging the seal by improper installation). And, yeah, mention a Buell, let alone a Blast to some parts guys and they look at you cross eyed. One HD dealer wouldnt even try to get me Buell parts. |

Erik, in response, does that mean HD stealerships are ABLE to order Buell parts. My local stealership, whom btw I refuse to "shop" at now, dropped the Buell name and told me they could'nt get parts now. Just wondering if this is true?? I prefer Chicago Harley anyways.... |

Buellkat...There are several HD dealerships here in Atlanta, but only Buell authorized ones can even order parts. Sounds bad but I guess it's kinda like trying to order a Chevy part at a Cadillac dealer. Same corporation but different entities?!?! My $.02... |

Buellkat Who was the dealership that dropped Buell? Please tell me it wasn't Sandys! Bmhd Is the primary cover loose on the engine case after you got all the bolts out? When I ever have a problem like you have been describing I always find that I have missed one bolt. |

That would be a sad state of affairs. You're in the middle of nowhere and the closest HD dealer says he cant order you a Buell part to get you on the road again, especially since a lot of Buell/HD parts are interchangeable. I'll have to ask my HD partsguy friend if thats true. |

Swampy, yeppers Sandy's, they dropped it over a year ago!! They told me they just didn't have a 'need' and the blasts were not selling. I find most the staff there rude, and they did not give Buell a chance, being in a small town, it takes folks awhile to "catch" on. |

Success! The cover's off, all this work to finally see how I've stripped the primary when I did the primary adjustment. I'm not doing bike work at night again! heh, anyway, two more questions and then I'm ordering parts...I know everyone says replace the primary gasket, but mine peeled right off the cover no sweat, and it looks fine. Should I still just order a new one and replace it? And EZ mentioned the shifter shaft seal, which I think is the shifter lever oil seal in the manual. Is this the rubber washer/seal that goes between the shift lever and the primary cover. That's what I gathered, and I didn't have any trouble with that, but I'll probably order another one just in case. Anyway, here's my parts list so far, if anybody spots anything glaringly wrong let me know. 1. Primary Cover 2. Primary Gasket 3. Clutch Inspection Cover Gasket 4. Blast shop manual 5. Shifter lever Also, anything else I should do while in there and waiting for parts? |

Gaskets are only like $3 bucks so I would order one anyways.... How about the TORX bolts that were stripped out to begin with? Don't forget those, there are like 14, not near my manual at the moment. Why do you need a NEW Primary Cover}? |

New primary cover because the old one is stripped where the primary adjuster bolt goes in, and now there are also the remnants of the TORX bolts where the clutch cover mounts. I could helicoil them both maybe, but I'd have to find a bigger locknut, as well as making the holes in the clutch cover a tick bigger to accompany a new bolt. Easier to buy a new primary cover. The 14 bolts were hex bolts, there are only 3 torx bolts, and I'm debating on whether or not to go to hex bolts when I rebuild, undecided yet. Also, the gaskets 15.... |

I tried reusing a paper gasket on a Cyclone twice for various reasons that made sense at the time, both failed within a week. The metal sandwich ones can be reused at least twice though with no problem, that was my experience anyway. |

I like using High Tack on gaskets ,paper & metal, not on rubber (especially if you HAVE to re use).If your're getting a new cover, your're going to need a new shifter shaft seal, but it may come already installed in the cover. PS How much do you want for your old cover? |

I reused the paper one once with no problems, but with your luck I would use the metal samwich gasket and not have any problems in the future, its only 15 bucks. |

gearheaderiko: Where the primary adjuster bolt threads is almost completely stripped. I had to drill out the stripped clutch cover bolts, so there are still the rest of the bolts stuck in there. If you really want it, email me at burnmyheartwithyou@hotmail.com The shifter shaft seal is the one that goes outside of the cover between the shift lever and the primary right? I don't see how that could get flucked, but I ordered a new one just in case, maybe I have the wrong part. |

Naw - your right - mine looked fine but I followed the manual and replaced it - lol - taught me once again about leaving well enough alone - lol - but all was fine in the end and an extra cant hurt. Take your time and you'll be fine. GT - JBOTDS! EZ |
