Jrs, mine is doing the same thing. I was hoping to dig into it this weekend to try n figure it out. I just got a new battery and new tires so it was sitting for awhile waiting for those to come in. Not sure if the gas sitting in the tank n carb gummed things up. |

Spray WD40 around the carb and intake while running. If idle changes you have an intake leak somewhere, which seems the most likely cause. |

do not take the carb apart "to give it a good cleaning". Please, this rarely solves anything and is rarely ever necessary. Mostly it adds new problems in addition to your old problem. That's all I have time for right now. |

Thanks for the heads up Gearhead. I was hoping to hear something like that since I don't want to attempt a cleaning. I'll try the WD40 trick after I put in a new spark plug (there was some carbon deposit). I was also told to try some Seafoam if I don't find an air leak. Sycho - if you get your problem straightened out, let me know what helped. I'll do the same. Thanks. |

Jrs, I was able to dig into matters today, and found out it was the kickstand relay that was faulty. So with the help of Gearheaderiko on the phone I bypassed it after I got over my usual confusion. |

Hello everyone. Just purchased a 2007 Blast with 1280 miles on it. Picked it up for $2300. Thought it was a pretty good deal. Its my first bike, (other than various dirt bikes in my youth). I've been doing alot of research on this forum, and must say that there is a wealth of knowledge floating around here. Anyways, just wanted to introduce myself. Looking forward to a great riding experience, (hopefully). |

Welcome! 1200 miles, there shouldn't be anything wrong. And just in case you didn't read it here: The carb does not need to be cleaned, no matter what anybody tells you!!! |

Thanks for the welcome Gearhead. I did read the comment about the garb not needing to be cleaned but thanks for the reminder! |

So I tried the WD40 mist around the carb and air-intake manifold during idle... no indication of a problem there. I put some Seafoam in the tank… no real improvement. BUT, after all of this I've noticed that when idling, turning the handle bars left or right makes the bike want to stall. A check of the idle and throttle cables doesn't indicate any obvious problems there - does this sound like a faulty switch problem? Similar to the kickstand relay issue? Thanks for the help all – this has been good. |

Okay so I did an oil change tranny fluid change readjusted the primary and rode the Blast to work today. On the way home I tried to open her up and again only topped out at roughly 85. Got home and the New Battery is dead... Put on the tender to charge it up a bit and started it up and it sounds.... well it sounds like something is broken inside. The sound out of the exhaust is kinda deeper or hollow with a kind of rattle noise to it. Will have to delve into it again on Sat. |

Check exhaust to head connection nuts for tightness, mounts for proper tension. EZ |

EZ, I think I'm already out about 12 flats. I will check all the nuts n bolts for tightness. Also I charged up the battery n it was reading about 14 1/2 volts. When I started it it went down to 12.85 volts. Shut it down n checked voltage again n it was about 13.85 |

Go more flats (+6). Have you tried it by ear? See what the charging rate is. Its easier to check when the battery is already low. IE: If the battery reads 12.5 volts and with the bike running it reads 14.5 volts you know its charging. But if the battery reads 14.5 volts and it reads 14.5 volts with the bike running, you've learned nothing. Throw the old battery in, jump start the bike and see what the voltage reading is running, then after you shut it down. Be sure to rev the engine up and watch the voltage. It should stay constant 14+ volts. If it goes up to (for example) 18 volts, you know your regulator is bad and you're cooking the battery. Check the fuses. I know the other day you were 'fooling' with them, make sure one isnt bad (I have no idea if the charging system has any fuse associated with it). |

*sigh* Just got new rubber on the Blast. Putting stuff back together, the wheel bearing on the pulley side fell out! Looks like the cheap solution is JB Weld, the expensive solution is a new wheel. *sigh* Is it worth getting a new bearing if I'm going to JBWeld it? The old one feels fine, but it's got around 8800 miles on it (I assume it's factory). My fiancee has been riding that one more, so we're continuing to put some significant miles on it. |

How bad would it be to ride it on a slightly loose bearing while waiting for the other parts to come in? I can take the 1125 to work, but I'd really rather not... and I sort of want the track stand back so I can get the rubber on the XB9 replaced... I suppose that could explain the slightly loose feeling I was getting from the rear end. I checked it for wobble a few times because it occasionally felt funky, but I couldn't feel anything. I figured it was just the rubber getting squared off. |

Bearings are cheap. Dont ride it until you JB weld it though. |

New bearing ordered (along with some heated grips & some oil filters). I'll dig up some JB Weld while waiting for the parts. And, I guess, put the wheel back on so I can get the rubber on the XB9 replaced, since they share a stand. |

I am about to put a new Jardine RT-1 on my 08 Blast to replace the stock which has cracked 3 times in different places. I am putting in a quiet core insert as well. I was wondering if anyone had any suggestions on rejetting? Will it be as simple as messing with the mixture screw or will I need to get different jets? |
Gearheaderiko
| Posted on Tuesday, July 10, 2012 - 04:35 pm: |
|
45 slow jet, 175 main jets, 2 " shims" on the needle. Often instructions with the exhaust will tell you what you need to do to the jetting. You can also use those as a guideline. Some exhausts say a change in jetting is not needed, but if you want more performance you'll want to go richer. DO NOT BUY a "jet kit"! You'll spend a lot of money for $12 worth of parts and be on your own for 'tuning'. |
