lol
I ran that puppy long ago - today it would be a candidate for HIDs, just remember to turn them on and off when the bikes already on, running. You'll be golden then, and if you forget, be prepared to replace a fuse - no biggie, considering the great lighting you'll have.

I'm told the thing is lower than stock by 1", and it certainly feels like it. Done by PO. Rear Showa shock and spring look stock, though.

@EZblast: Are you referring to the raptor fairing?

Apparently it's not T-15's it has as primary headlights, the T-15 must refer to the sidemarkers. Apparently they're this weirdo P15D-25-1 size, which, though I've never heard of it before, they do offer HID kits for, but since it's a twist-in type design... IDK how that works exactly. I figure it'll blow the HL circuit or melt the harness like it did on my Katana if I run a set of HIDs directly off the headlight circuit, is there enough room that I can run wiring from the battery to the front of the bike to use a relay instead?

Also, my horn quit working last night. Not good, cos people always are trying to kill me.

for the horn check the connections and accessory fuse, check wires as well - horns rarely fail - lol - but are cheap to replace.

The HID kits have their own mini transformers, its just always recommended to start the motor, then turn them on to prevent a surge overload - the fuse would then go and you would have to replace it. - otherwise should be an easy deal - I remember replacing the signal bulbs with Pia bulbs.

Have you got any photos of you rocking this fairing? Mine's supposed to show up today.

I ordered a set of 4300k Hi/Lo HIDs for the blast- you're sure running a set of 35w HIDs won't melt the harness?

Oh, I made this on break at work the other day.

The pics are here and the darkside area - yes that will be fine - the blast bulb connector is the same as an h4 bulb plug - and 07' and up have H4 lightbulbs in their 7" housings. To avoid any accidental tripping of a fuse - turn light on after starting bike - may not trip, but why chance an edgy thing - lol - I have low as off and high is on - works for me.

Concur. I've run 2 H4's 50w and 100w simultaneously. As stated earlier, use a relay to isolate the headlights from the rest of the wiring. I did not use a relay on mine, but probably will when I hook them back up. It does get 'warm'!

How'd you end up mounting that? Is it pretty straightforward? I thought about switching out my front fairing but haven't really looked into how any of them mount up.

That's nice! Still, there's something classic about a big, ol' round headlight.

True, there is definitely something classic about the 7" round, but it's not "me" on this particular bike.

I dunno, it was like a head that didn't match the body for me.

To be honest, you can really mount this thing however the hell you feel like because the install is really that flexible. These fairings generally have two mounting holes on either side about 9" apart plus one hole for a support beam on the bottom.

If you look at the top of my forks, you can see the silver straight piece that supports the fairing. It's super light weight and torquing it down good seems to be keeping it place; it held up to 95mph on the freeway this morning (man, I have never worked so hard for 90 mph til I got the Blast)

There's no way to re-gear these bikes in any way, is there? I'd love to be lower in the rev range at 75-80mph.

If you pull the trans there is. how much do you weigh?
I can hit 89 mph in 4th gear: ) if you can't lower the gearing, raise the redline!

Do you want taller gearing? You can install an XB12 primary sprocket and chain (and cover and adjuster) if you want taller. But if you having trouble hitting 90 now, you just might wind up doing it in 4th gear with taller gearing, now you're back to where you started.

It'll do 90, i just have to tuck in and get on it. I weigh 180lb, maybe 190lb with gear.

How difficult are the primary sprocket and chain and cover etc to replace, exactly? It sounds like this would be pricey from the getgo

On the daily rider 95 plenty - lol - and a bit more because its a 2000, and on the toy easily over a 100 a few times - lol - once verified by speed sign - but then these bikes are not about top end unless you do LSR racing.
their real potential lies in improving their handling, and allowing even the stock configuration be all that it can be - then you have a carver of back roads and a gas saving commuter in one bike and the pride to know you did it yourself!

Yes, pricey! You'd have to watch e-bay for a deal, but they do come up. If you wanted one today, you're talking $500+

Hey, anyone else in SoCal I thought I'd mention that OC Harley Davidson in Irvine, CA runs an MSF course and operates 10 or so Blasts- and actually were able to order the rear brake peg that I broke off - and pegs.

Logically I figured somewhere operating 10 blasts for an MSF course is surely going to have a way to get a hold of parts for them when someone inevitably breaks one somehow.

Thought I'd share. Got a new Pirelli MT75 for the front from Chapparral this week, going to mount that this morning and then blast around for a bit ;]

Did you order the isolator?

Hopefully they are a good source for parts.

A few years ago I sent the service people into a full on panic at the mention of a Blast. They immediately told me they dont work on them and there was any way they'd pull a mechanic of a Harley to work on one (same hourly rate though). All I asked was: "who owned the Blast parked out front?". Yes, FULL ON PANIC!!!

When I bought my new Blast from them in 2002, I took it in for the 1000 mile service (mostly to fix any warranty issues). It was a brand new bike and they left it outside all week and gave it back to me FILTHY. Then they couldnt understand why I didnt give them a 5 start rating (yes, they questioned me on it, though they didnt really care why, just that I didnt give them 5 stars).
Needless to say when I spent A LOT more money on a motorcycle a few years later, I went somewhere else.
Not a big fan of OC HD, even though someone I knew worked there and I've been there numerous times since they were the only game in town in the early 80's. I have more stories, but I think the point is made!

Just in case of a google search: Orange County Harley Davidson : )

I will say this: they were certainly more helpful than the other HD dealers I called who were "unable to get parts" in the area. I won't speak for their service dept -but finding anywhere that I can order parts for these is hard these days.

not yet, I replaced the pegs so I can operate the brake again etc, the isolator's on the list of "things to do" though, right after I get this front tire mounted.

I'm going by order of "what's most likely to kill me".

I retrofitted the raptor headlight with a set of 4300K 35W HIDs - this system was designed for motorcycles and only uses the headlights as the on/off switch, the HID ballast actually draws power direct from the battery. Figuring out where to mount two of the higher quality but much larger ballasts wasn't easy. I am working on getting the wiring to stay where it's routed through, it keeps popping itself back out from under the tank cover. I'll get to that soon enough.

You can also see the damage on the bike from my last down on it.

The light output is fantastic, if a bit short- I wish the light travelled further out but the intensity of the lighting for the next 50-60 feet ahead of me is brilliant - enough so that I can actually see imperfections in the road at night and avoid them.

I'll get on ordering that isolator mount, then - once I get paid tuesday.

also, how would I check the transmission fluid, and at what point does the primary chain need adjustment? IDK if I'm imagining it but sometimes I think I hear things coming from that area of the bike. I know where the drain plug is for it, but can't discern where I'd check the trans fluid at.
