Has anyone contemplated the thought of installing this efi kit on a blast? http://www.ecotrons.com/400cc_to_800cc_Engine_EFI_ kit.html I know its a bit pricey, but with others spending gobs of money on other mods, I wonder if its such a stretch to do this. The possibilities seem endless with this kit. What do you guys think? |

A wise man once said "Why complicate a simple bike?" I don't recall his name right now... Well for starters, any pipe for the blast, even stock is relatively thin so I don't know how you would modify it to accept the O2 Sensor unless you care to take the time to cut a hole in the pipe and weld up a threaded port at the correct angle. Even then you run the risk of burning a hole in the aluminum (its difficult to weld aluminum) and a further risk it getting it to seal back up. I think the risk and cost is too high to even consider this. While it's a cool idea to fantasize about, it just complicates a simple bike which is what the blast is supposed to be. Coincidentally, this is also the beauty of the blast... simplicity! |

You still have das boot with that efi, however, seems pretty complete and actually cheap for all that hardware. EZ |

Theoretically, the sensor should account for a bad boot. It does seem complete to me and probably cheaper than stealing one of an XB too. There are at least a couple people running EFI and it does complicate a simple bike. But if you want more power, its the way to go (and more power with a Blast is not always cost efficient!). A nice find though |

In comparison to an upgrade to a mikuni carb, I would see this as a great alternative. I don't know if anyone else has checked the site out, but they also have turbo kits. I am new to the forums, but judging by what others have spent one our beloved thumpers, I view this as a cost effective upgrade that opens the doors to other opportunities. The common response to this is why complicate a simple air/fuel delivery system, but from all the screwing around and tweaking of the stock carb, I don't see edit as a complication, but a simplification of an ancient way of mixing gas and air. Carbs seems so circumstancial as to how to tune and "get right". It'd be nice to have a plug and play system that figures all ghat out for you. Tuning a carb feels like a crap shoot every time I do it. |

True and there are others in other forums contemplating that same system. EZ |

Always remember the "KISS" SYSTEM, ie: Keep It Simple Stupid !!! Unless you can improve the PERIPHERAL PROBLEMS, ie: INTAKE BOOT and EXHAUST SYSTEM it is better to stay with the CARBURETOR !!! |

Also one for use as you source stock style parts from other bikes would be Microsquirt. AS for welding to aluminum. Just what needs to be welded to aluminum? The exhaust is steel, so mig or tig works. Just curious. Also as for intake boot issues, dont see where this would be major issue, but then havent done any mods to my Blast yet. Well except the Gold Class Commander Michelin rear tire and MY75 Pirelli on front(my bike came stock on Dunlops, so even as replacement tire the MT would be a "mod" but a good one). Well and I switched to HD 25/50 Synth lubes. Besides that no real mods. |
