I noticed this the other day on the cylinder jug. There is a white cement like substance between the fins on the front and back sides of the cylinder. The bike seems to run fine (aside from some fine tuning to be done). Does anyone have an idea of what this substance is? Is it a repair that has been previous to my ownership? Thank you.

Sorry for the quality of the photo. This was taken on the front side of the cylinder jug.

Hmm looks too "crafted" to be a hornets nest. Has anyone else seen something like this?

Good news everybody! Turns out it was well done mud that cooked on there and turned white. I was worried it was someones patch job and it was hanging on by a thread. Crisis averted!

I had stuff like this on mine when I first got it. It was mud from a hornet nest.
