Yes and no. You can find Screamin Eagle modules for less $100, but it may take some wiring modifications and likely a new coil and a new choke set-up. I dont suggest it unless your Blast is already Blastardized. The same goes with some aftermarket modules - it wont bolt right on. Pony up for a Blast module, you'll be better off. (but remember, most electronic parts are non- returnable. If you buy it from a dealer, they might take it back if its defective. Buy off e-bay and if its bad, you own it).

There is a bit of Blast stuff out there, but its easier to ask if something specific exists. A lot of Buell/Blast stuff is hidden away in catalogues or not even listed on websites. Sometimes you have to know what you're looking for and often if it cross references to fit a Blast.

Wut hee sed.

There's quite a few aftermarket options out there, but it's going to require a bit of modification to work. I looked, compared, and got an Ultima to work on mine. It was NOT easy by any means. Most aftermarket ignitions can expect similar effort.

I would highly advise against it as an OEM replacement.

I have a 2003 Blast that just won't start when cold. I have replaced the boot and have no more air leaks. I have 42 and 165 jets in the carb. I have adjusted the ignition timing. Besides that the bike is bone stalk. I can start it with some starter fluid and some cranking. Once running it purrs like a kitten and runs great. Once warmed up it will restart at the slightest tap of the start button. looking for some help to resolve the problem. I don't think that hauling around a can of starting fluid is the answer.

@WildCard - Changing ignition module requires re-wiring the ignition system, disabling all safeties, wiring new coil, usually dumping spark intended for rear cylinder, re-notching the trigger rotor, grinding the cam cover...I think I'm missing something...it's very involved. Unless you intend on modifying the bike a LOT, it's really not worth the effort. You can still find stock ignition modules, I'll look later. Work firewall prevents me from shopping much.

@Noochmahh - Sounds like you're having choke issues, probably stuck closed. Still, replace those jets with 45/170 (assuming stock intake/exhaust) first and that should help.

I should have mention I have recently replace the auto enrichiner. can the choke be stuck besides the enrichiner being bad? I will replace the jets for sure. could it be the TPS needing to be reset?

Noochmahh, How old is the gas?

I would suggest swapping in the 45/ 170 jets and drilling the a/f screw.

What is the temp where you are at? The thick oil doesn't like cold air temps and it make starting the bike with the stock 42 jet and stock a/f mixture difficult.

The Gas Is new and 92 octane. i will add the a/f screw to the todo list. temp at last try was 45F. it seems to be turning over well. Is there a way to test the auto enrichener?

sounds like AE to me, have you tested to ensure your getting 12v to the AE? When you start the bike and let it warm up does the idle drop?

Just reset my AF screw, turned it all the way in and they backed out to 3 turns, then 1/8th back in so at 2 7/8ths. Let bike warm up, drove around for a few, readjusted primary bolt by sound. Loosened ignition module and moved to slowest idle without valve noise. Had to then back out idle almost 2 turns, and readjust. Rode around for a few hours, stopping and fine adjusting. Died on me once like it had on highway crusing, then readjusted. No more stumbling around steady 55, 65, or 75. Sounds "thicker", little more power and pick up on low/mid. Lost a little high end power but eh. I'll put her on a real timing light someday.

OH yeah. Rode down muddy gravel and dirt road. I now hate the stock exhaust shape. Throws everything right up your leg.

Wild card:
The truth is any (factory/Screamin Eagle) 'nose cone' 6 wire (I think they all are) Sportster ignition should 'bolt right up' as the wires are all the same colour as the Blast. At a minimum you'll need to buy a timing cup ($7). But as I said previously its far easier just to get another Blast module (unless you want something high performance-but you'll need more mod$ to fully utilize it).

So I measured the voltage going to the auto enrichener and it was 9.77 volts the battery was at 12.74 volts. Is this voltage drop normal and could it prevent cold startups of the motor cycle? I have 45/170 jets, shimmed the needle .05, adjusted the A/F 2 1/2 turns out and have a new enrichinerer installed.

The auto-enricher is normally open (choke on). When the switch is on, it should supply +12v to a heating element. As the element heats up, it melts a wax pellet that expands and closes the auto-enricher (choke off).

If you're not getting +12v at the AE, then it would just take longer to close. However, it could be indicative of a short somewhere causing another issue.

The AE can be adjusted open/closed. Do you still have the old one? There is a collar that you can loosen or tighten to set how open it is when the engine is cold. If set wrong, it may not be choking the engine at all. If you have the old one, remove the new and compare the number of threads showing to the old one, make them match.

My first car was a '74 Dodge Dart with a rusted roof, driver's side door that did not work, rear signal out...and the muffler fell off the first trip down the road. I will not go into what I had to use to tie it up to get home but what works, works. Second day on road I got pulled over three times in 24 hours with fix-it tickets being issued in all three stops. I loved that car!!

Hey EZ just reading through some old posts and read where you had been on a carrier here in Florida. Just wondering which one. My son-in-law is on the USS Enterprise in Norfolk and it just returned for the last time, it is being decommissioned. Of course they have been saying that for years but looks like this time it may really happen.

There is also a rumor that a nuclear carrier may be placed in Mayport so we are keeping fingers crossed that he will get to relocate here closer to home. One of my favorite rides is between St. Augustine and Amelia taking the Mayport Ferry...bring back any memories for ya?

If you ever get down this way...make sure you let us know. I think I owe ya

I served on the USS Arkansas from 83' to 88' and was part of the Enterprise battle group when she was here in Alameda. The Ark was decommissioned back in 90'. I've got some great memories of the two world tours we did.

Best area to ride would be the river road from Daytona to St Augustine & back - was fun in a MG. I was in Mayport - the USS Forestall CV-59 - decommissioned after my watch blew up two months after I left. I worked the main engine room 1 and the oil shack.

Aaahhh yes EZ great ride. Have also done the river road in the south, CR 3 just north of Melbourne, Tropical Trail up to NASA parkway. Not the best road, but sort of cool.

Thumper had a '67 MGB-GT in the '70's and took it airborne over a hill on Davis Island in Tampa - he ended up wrecking two MG's before his wild days were over.

BTW - thanks to those of you to have served our country and serve it now...because of you we can do what we love.

Johneblast, a Salute to you too.

We loved riding in Arkansas, we stayed in Harrison and Mountain Home and one year stayed in a college town with an underground tavern, just can't remember the name. I know American Pickers had been there, saw the shop they went to.

Happy Trails

Hey Johneblast I am currently in the Navy, I have served on the vinson, stennis and nevada. Thanks for you service.

Anywho so I can't get my blast to cold start but it runs fantastic once warmed up. so now the weird part. I pulled the carb looked down the choke passage on the outlet side. the choke was open. hooked the AE up to a car charger had .33 amps running through it and some minutes later the choke was closed therefore not the AE. I tested the jack on the blast it had 9.33 volts I plugged the AE into it is that could still see the choke. some minutes later the choke hadn't budged and wasn't even warm and had 0.00 amps running through it. I tested the positive lead to ground and got 13.14V. I chased the ground side and it actually went to the ignition module. My ohm meter is on the fritz so i can't do any resistance measurements at the moment but it looks like there is a ground wire problem.

Now the strange part. I have done all the carb mods mentioned on this site and a new 'das boot'. So if the choke is open and stays open why won't the blastard cold start and why does run so damn good once it is warm?
