Hello all. I am a new blast owner and am looking to get some extra muscle out of my Blast. I have been reading some of the other posts but have a list of specific questions that can hopefully get answered. Here are the details to start. 2007 Blast 2000kms (1200 miles) Bone stock Stored in heated garage for the last year So here I go... Intake: From what I have read the BU-5000 is the easiest solution for allowing the carb to breath. Installation seems simple. Is there anything that needs to be done to the airbox upon installation of the K&N filter? Extra holes drilled or anything like that? Carb: With a free flowing intake and exhaust the 45/175 combo with the idle mixture screw 2.5 to 3 turns from fully seated seems to be pretty much the recommended jetting. What about the needle? Should that be shimmed about 0.050" or just replaced with the NOKK needle? Exhaust: Since my bike is a 2007 I do not think the Vance and Hines pipe will fit (from what I have read). So I am looking at the Jardine RT-1. Is this a good choice? It seems to be one of the few available options. Are there any other preferences or recommendations? I guess this covers all my questions. Any info, help or recommendations would be greatly appreciated. Alos any recommendations for locations to buy everything at one place would be good too. Thank you again and I hope to generate some discussion. |

Welcome. 1st: for the sake of most discussions, ALL Blasts are the same. 99.99% of all parts are the same and/or interchangeable. Unless you really really know Blasts, you cant tell the difference between a 2000 model and a 2010! So, all exhausts fit all years! The Jardine is good. Shim the needle. The Blast has 34hp and there is no magic carb modification to make it into a rocket. Unless you're going to spend a lot of time on a dyno or a lot of time riding and testing, then you can fool around with other needles etc. Go with the recommendations and adjust as necessary. An in depth description of a stock airbox mod is given on Badweb. Thats about the best you can do with the stock airbox. The single most effective, "bang for the buck", mod is an exhaust. Nothing else touches it in dramatic performance improvement. If you really want to improve things, take the front cylinder, piston, head and cams off your XB and put it on the Blast. That will put a smile on your face! American Sport Bike carries a lot of Buell/Blast stuff, but I cant think of one place to get everything. |

From what I have also read on this site and others is the stock airbox also tends to tear one of the oil lines. personally I bought the 3 inch stack from American Sport Bike and the sock from Outerwears.com for the intake. Free's up a lot of space under you and thats about 5 lbs the bike lost from the airbox. Ive spend 50 bucks on the two parts including shipping and thats about the same price for a K&N. you will have to rejet with the stack. |
