Protoj: Possibly a semi-blocked fuel vent line. Make sure it's not pinched & doesn't have stuff in it. |

170 is about 85 mpg, which I doubt. I think somewhere along the line something got confused or you were really, really, really light on the throttle. Now that you're more experienced your having a little more fun and using a little more gas! 115-120 is about right. |

I have pulled off 150mi, BUT I completely filled the tank (non CA bike) and was only doing about 45mph and was coming down off the mountains. |

I did some impromptu calc's on MPG. I'm 6'1" & 200 Lbs (optimistically) I got 123.5 miles from full to reserve. @124.1 miles I refilled the tank w2.156 US Gallons. I used 93 Octane gas w/10% ethanol. Mixed riding for the full distance (I commute c30 miles every day) So, my MPG figure was 57.56MPG. I have a small screen/fairing on the bike, an aftermarket filter/breather setup & the carb' is jetted 45/175. Chris C |

Hi: New to Forum, but I seem to have a problem that isn't entirely unique. 2005 P3 Blast - was originally a Rider's Edge Bike but I am 1st registered owner. Some scrapes on the tank etc. indicate it probably went down at some point. Bike has less than 10K miles and has had a series of possibly related problems: 1.) Front motor mount broke - replaced by dealer. (about 6K) 2.) Exhaust came loose from head (about 7K - tightened and torqued to spec.) 3.) Exhaust stud broke off flush with head - top overhaul by dealer since head had to come off to get out broken stud. 4.) exhaust pipe broke at weld before muffler (about 7.5K). Rewelded. 5.) Weld broke and exhaust stud broke off (although fortunately not flush with head again) AT this point I removed the stock exhaust and noted that it is both very heavy and that it is mounted to both engine and frame so it is set up to be subject of some serious harmonic vibration. I welded a nut on the broken stud and removed. I am a bit afraid of putting the stock exhaust back on as it is not likely to stay "fixed." I am happy with the performance and the stock exhaust but, I need a fix that is going to stay together and not shear exhaust studs. I see that others on the forum have also suffered repeated exhaust system failures, but I was unable to find a definitive cure. I am not looking for loud but could live with louder if I need to. Would a V&H, Jardine, or other exhaust system fix this or do I have some other issue? If I go with an aftermarket exhaust, do I need to rejet (and how do I do it). Any help or pointers appreciated. PS- I love the Thumper when it's running. I have two other bikes I can ride including an Ultra, but the Blast was named appropriately. Great handling, torqie, and just downright fun to ride. |

Get a V&H and repack often and you'll be fine. re-jet to 45/175. EZ |

Have you guys seen this thread regarding a replacement part to fix striped out gas caps? http://www.badweatherbikers.com/buell/messages/476 23/651548.html?1315877348 Blast's share the basic cap with the old school tube framed bikes, right? |

I have a Jardine on my Blast. 8000 miles & no stud/header breaks whatsoever. Just make sure you install the aftermarket pipe with the original Blast hardware at the front & you'll enjoy it. It's a great weight saving & gives better power. As EZ said, re-jet to 45/175. Chris C |

The exhaust should only be mounted to the motor. look at it again. The hammering from the broken front motor mount is why your exhaust broke. |

When the front motor mount went, it was pretty dramatic. It snapped in two with an accompanying noise like a two ton sheet of flat stock dropped on a metal bridge from about fifteen feet. I was doing about 50 and crossing a river at the time. The stock exhaust system dropped to where it had about 3/4" of clearance, and fortunately there were no bumps, holes, or protrusions on the road surface to catch the exhaust and lever me skyward. The motor mount was dealer replaced, and even if the shock of this initial failure led later to the 1st broken exhaust stud, both studs had been replaced and the exhaust reinstalled by a Buell dealer, so logically, the motor mount failure shouldn't have been the cause for the subsequent weld or stud failures but... it did make me wonder if there might be some other issue that was the real cause of all these symptoms. With the knowledge and experience on this forum, I suspect that if that were the case, someone out there would have recognized it and chimed in. So, I'm going to assume that the motor mount failure and subsequent exhaust system failures are probably not related, and that the repeated exhaust system failures are probably just because the stock exhaust is too massive and does not like freeway commute riding. I will try a V&H and rejet to 45/175 (and I hope there is stuff in the technical archives to tell me how to do that without messing up the carb). Thanks for all the help everyone. |

I've done quite a bit of commuting on a stock exhaust as well as my Pro-Series exhaust. I haven't had any issues like that. Are you sure that the dealer put the exhaust back on correctly? Just because the dealer did it, doesn't mean it was done right. I keep finding that it seems to be the opposite. rejecting the carb is super easy, and super cheap. |

They are interrelated, however, the V&H is the easier alternative. Jetting is simple - just follow the guide and information provided. EZ |

Trying to upload a pic of Sharkey, my new-to-me 1998 Kawasaki Concours painted up like Jaws about to devour a woman riding an innertube. Still have Thumper, however. Too much fun and too easy to ride in traffic to get rid of. One for the highway, one for the city. Now I need one for the dirt. |

Done - been riding - yeah - now that's a modern cruiser - I think of the CR as a sport tourer - lol - and the 1190rr and 1125r as sport bikes - lol - I'm weird that way - my Blast is still my main commuter, and a world of fun! Now I'm going to do one up for my brother! EZ |

I thought I'd post as well. I'm alive and doing fine! The Blast (sadly/gladly) didn't get much riding this summer. While it runs perfectly and starts when I need it to, I've been bicycling a helluva lot. I rode several "Century" days, several organized tours, a 300 mile solo-tour and have joined a local MTB riding and trail-building club. With all this riding, I even discovered a 'secret' to make my Blast faster than ever before: I lost 40lbs. I hope all here have had good health and strong acceleration. Take care, Awf ______________________ Firing order: 1 |

Thank you I found a pic of them and fabed them up myself then bought the xb shifter. You can message him and I'm sure he will be glad to sell a set! The price is right in my book cause it's not as easy as people think to get the pegs to line up perfectly when done. |
