Don't have a stand or experience swapping out motorcycle tires yet. Will look through the information and see how difficult it appears, need to get a stand anyway for general safety and maintenance. So online order them huh? Time to look for best prices and options. :-) Lightwise I was looking at some of the LED options and EZ has been nice enough to share info on the Acerbis front. But that will have to wait for a little more cash and the rest of the bike ready first. :-) | ||

To work on my bike, I've screwed an eye lag up in to the rafter in the garage and hang the bike with a tow strap. It hold just find. I would bust loose any nuts and bolts you want to free up prior to hoisting it though as the pressure from breaking stuff loose could cause problems. For taking wheels off, adjusting clutch and ignition timing etc. it works great. | ||

Johnk, the Avons are plenty sticky but won't last as long as the Diablo so I am told. But if you are going to change them out later, it would be worth the $100 | ||

Hello all, just a quick question from a fellow Buell Blast enthusiast. I was changing the transmission oil the other day and took a look at my airbox just to check on it and the filter that was in there was a K&N cone filter. Now, I have not done anything to the filter since I bought it. But I took the box cover off and the filter was not secured in by any means. It was basically, just placed in the box and then you close the cover. Is this normal or is there supposed to be something there that secures the air filter in place? Thanks! | ||

The open end of the filter goes into the air intake..It kinda sticks in there, not really secure, but once you close the airbox it won't go out of place | ||

The filter isn't secured. With the airbox cover closed, it should press it into place and hold it there. You might want to consider cleaning the filter, though. K&N recharge kits aren't that expensive. You may also want to consider opening up the airbox intake & rejetting the carb.  It made a huge difference in ours! | ||

Lighting: there is actually a lot you can do. The last Uly had an LED tail light and I've seen LED tail lights for the Blast on E-bay. So there are other "bolts right on" tail lights out there. The Blast tail light is not unique to the Blast. The stock sealed beam headlight can be swapped out for a headlight with a much brighter replaceable H4 bulb, and that can be swapped out for an even brighter H4 (the Blast can handle some high wattage head lights). There's probably an HID conversion that will fit too. The stock turn signals can also be converted to running lights and self canceling turn signals (as well as emergency flashers) with the addition of a "Signal Minder" by Kisan. It also is a load equalizer if you want to convert to LED run/turn lights. And that just scratches the surface of possible lighting upgrades!!! Good evening! This is my first time post but I'm in need of some help pretty bad. Any help is greatly appreciated. I've got an 01' buell blast. The bike has about 30,000 miles on it and has been taken care of its entire life. The problem I'm having is I can't seem to get my top speed over 62 mph and it takes a minute to get there. It's had an oil change and only a month ago it had a new "boot" installed (the boot that leads to the carb.) It hasn't ran well even since the recent work. It actually runs and sounds good but just wont go over 62mph. The Primary seems fine,also the carb was cleaned as well. I'm taking a long trip soon and I need toget this running better. @Andrewsavage, I used to wrap gorilla tape around the hole in the airbox where the filter slides on, it gives the filter a little more of a snug fit. Andrew Savage, I feel like I know that name, I live in Milford CT BTW | ||

Bo, Check to fuel vent line. Recently did that to myself putting the tank cover back on and pinched the vent tube. Wouldn't go over 60. Took me a minute to figure it out. Check the "new" boot if that doesn't fix it. Good luck! | ||

Just a thought on maybe saving some money... Has anyone tried to make thier own exhaust for the blast with a thrush tube or a purple hornie. They are both glass pack style through tubes like the jardine or the V&H. I can use the existing piping from my Kerker setup and install some piping down through the center of the bike and then weld on one of the mufflers. The only problem I can see with that is the smallest inlet size is 2in, the size of the muffler itself, and also I wasnt sure if there would be backpressure problems? Any thoughts on whether this could work? | ||

Okay a couple of things. :-) I have a finished garage with a Metal Beam across the middle so it may be possible to rig something to work to lift the bike up, just have to make room to get the bike into the garage. Is a motorcycle jack viable with V&H exhaust? Do I need to get a jet kit or just jets to get carb setup for the exhaust? I would like to add a better intake in the future as well so have been eyeing the Superboot with bent intake. I am going to be spending more on these parts then I did on the bike! :-) | ||

I have Thumpe's bent intake & super boot on my Blast. it's a good combo. RE: Jets: Look in the carb section & order the appropriately #'d jets from your local stealership. Buying the jets individually is a lot cheaper than buying a complete kit. I think Jets are about $8.00 each. RE: lifting the bike. The beam should work. Raise front & rear separately using ropes/straps etc'. Good luck! Chris C | ||

@Johnk I bought a 1ton chain hoist for my GSXR from HarborFreight for $40, get one. The beam should definitely hold too, mines hanging from an eye hook screwed into a wooden beam in my garage. If you use the chain hoist and a swingarm/spool lift in the back, you can fully suspened your bike and lift the front pretty high. I did this when I swapped to USD's on my bike. | ||

The Signal Minder I have is marked SM-1. I run an aftermarket Harley muffler with a V & H headpipe. Any non-Blast muffler you run check the straight through diameter. Some have a large inlet but it narrows down through the muffler. Some aftermarket MC mufflers are extremely restrictive. The "cherry bomb" style made for cars are usually okay. A metal strap (like the one that holds on the stock boat anchor) and an exhaust u-clamp are easy to fab up to hold the muffler. Those stands are a great price however the front stand only lifts from the axle which can make wheel removal difficult. Some stands (like the T-rex) lift from the neck or axle. Harbour Fright has some very low priced stands (especially if you wait for sales and cut the 20% coupon)! Invest in a set of stands regardless. They make working on your bike so much easier and with the right stands you can even move the bike around the garage on them. But it depends on your budget. Jack stands can be used as well as the mentioned hoist/beam method. PS make sure you measure to be sure the stands will work. | ||

Wow, thanks for the input guys! I think once I can get the Garage in better control the overhead hoist is definitly something I want to look at. The fact that the main beam of course is dead center widthwise makes it harder to get to since I have been using the front area for my projects and leaving the back half for family stuff. So for the Harbor Freight items, would I get 2 of the rear stands and the fork adapter would convert one rear stand so it could be used up front? Those prices and the fact it is right down the street really helps. :-) I wish I could find the Harbor Freight wheel changer I had read about but I don't see anything the right size and price... :-) | ||

Yes, 2 stands one adapter. I dont see the tire changer you reference on their website anymore. Its possible they've discontinued selling it. They do sell a "mini tire changer" and in conjunction with a bead breaker (which they also sell), it would almost do the same thing with some modifications (but I dont really know). http://www.harborfreight.com/mini-tire-changer-345 52.html Sometimes, with the heavier (read Harley) tires, all the tire changer was good for was holding the tire and wheel assembly while you pulled the tire on & off. Still a big help. HF might be able to track down the old style (with the mc adapter) if you ask them. Part numbers would definitely help. If I find them I'll post them, but I'm sure you could find them with a web search too as its a very popular item with DIY motorcyclists.
