A 45 should be better, 165 is stock, which should be already in there, though 170 wold work as well. You have no idea how lean these bikes are from the factory - mega lean - whewww -

Hm. Well, if the 44 doesn't help, I'll get a 45.

I was going off the recommendations in the FAQ. We seldom ride *lower* than we are right now.

The 2002 & laters had a 170 main jet stock...

Given how badly it loses power at altitude on a hot day (density altitudes north of 10k ft), I wouldn't be surprised if I'm a bit rich up there.

I'll see. I may stick a wideband on it at some point - I'm curious anyway.

Hm. 44/165 with the intake opened up feels fatter in the middle, a bit weak up top. I'm letting it cool, then I'll try the 170 back in the main jet and see if it feels any better wide open.

We do a good bit of highway riding, so WOT is a common state of running for my gf.

Mmm... 170 is much nicer all around.

It still feels like it's falling a bit flat before redline, though. Is that just the nature of the stock exhaust, or is that jetting? Right now the exhaust is bone stock.

I'd like to get a pipe for it and open up the top a bit, but my gf is a bit concerned about noise. If I get one of the ones that can be repacked, will that help keep the noise to a dull roar? She wants to ride it to elementary schools (she's a teacher).

It's a fun bike, though. : D

Primary too tight, and stock intake and exhaust are restrictive. Adjust primary to sound method.

I dont know how quite the Jardine with the quiet core is (but I'm skeptical), but otherwise its going to be loud no matter the packing. Loud is relative though, whether comparing it to other bikes or to just how the general public perceives it.

The Jardine RT1 w/quiet core is a lot louder than stock but much quieter than without the core. Noise-wise, it's a lot quieter sounding than a Harley.

Well, she's *much* happier with the bike now! Fatter midrange, better top end, and it's a lot easier to keep at speed on the highway.

I'll definitely look into the Jardine. That may be worth a shot.

Thumpe makes a good inexpensive set, American Sport Bike sells a set, and Banke sells a set. I like either the Thumpe or American Sport Bike sets.

haha well my vance and hines has been sounding terrible so i opened it up and it was completly empty. so the ever thrifty guy i am, i used some exhaust manifold heat wrap and used that as packing. I went out and beat on the blast just before the rain today to see if there would be any issues and there appears to be none. so well see how the long term goes

cant tell if i like the new sound after a day of riding. highway cruising and idle sound great but acceleration sounds so snappy like a machine gun. deffinatly a shift in the powerband from having no packing

Blast rider spotted this morning in SW Charlotte, NC.

You were riding a yellow blast with saddle bags down Moss Rd., then turned right onto Erwin Rd. You had a pony tail, white shirt, and half helmet. It was 8am.

If you see this contact me. I live in the neighborhood you were driving thru, the Crossings, and I have two buells.

Bill, Charlotte NC.

If the top is indeed flush with the top washer, then yes it is shot. If you look under it and see tares or rips, or peals - it is shot.

If you don't replace it things will start falling apart and breaking from the vibration.

Could use some help troubleshooting.
Bike died going up good size hill.

The list:
replaced torn boot with super boot.
replaced plug with iridium plug.
EZ air-box mod.
kerker exhaust mod.
set idle screw to 2 1/2-3 turns out.
re-jetted to 48/175.
shimmed needle w/ 2 #4 washers.

runs sweet around town, plenty of power / acceleration, sounds bad ass (even louder than some of the full size H-D's that have pulled up next to me. I have noticed on longer runs it will backfire sometimes after i've been riding a while. It also died on me on a hwy outside of town on my way up a big hill. I had to walk the bike across to the other side of the road and then coast back down the hill to a parking area at the bottom then let the bike cool for another 5-10 minutes before it would start again. I am beginning to suspect somethings up with the ignition module. maybe it's having heat issues? or should I still be looking to the carb / intake?

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

I am trying to prep this to make longer distance trips like up to columbia or st louis and back.

Howdy Myappleguy,
If you haven't (or if the previous owner hadn't, if there was one) had to change the module since new, you may need to as that year was bad. Perhaps the vendor, who knows. I had the issue with mine the day I bought it and replaced with new from then, a new vendor. I also have a back-up just in case the new vendor didn't get it right either. Check the coil as well.
Happy Trails.

If disabling the safeties changes nothing, assuming good boot and carb, I would suspect the ignition, but make sure it is not a sticking roll over valve at the tank & does it run better on reserve? Not a Cali model? Plug and wire is good? Good battery and regulator? Easy tests - make sure it is not any of those first - then suspect the ignition.

Awesome Thanx EZ will run through and test the electrical system. i removed the kickstand switch. went to swap the clutch diode around but it didn't want to fit going the other direction so I left it. already removed the cali can. Didn't try switching to reserve I had just filled up 5 miles b4 it died. curious about the roll over valve... it usually acts up pulling hills when it killed out today i was starting up a 5% grade. also will check all the different lines for clogs. plug is new iridium. will test plug wire. battery good. once i got it to start again I rode back into town and rode around for another hour b4 going home with no issues. Hope its not the ignition module.

Rarely a fuel valve will go south and symptoms are either reserve or main will only partially work, while the other works fine - so if it runes fine on reserve you would then consider the fuel valve.

has anyone disabled the bank angle sensor ??? if so, how ??? Trying to eliminate all other possibilities b4 replacing ignition module. Problem seems sporadic. earlier in the week made 50+ mile round trip with no issues. the next day bike died at 12 miles outside of town. So weird I can putt around town all day long with no problems but if i decide to go to one of the neighboring towns or just go backroading and enjoying the countryside it dies out in the middle of nowhere. Then I have to sit and wait 5 to 10 minutes till the bike will start again. (pic is where i coasted to a stop after bike sputtered & died on the side of a county road)
bike died
