Nice Tony and welcome! PS Disconnect the EPA charcol canister ASAP. It will eventually cause your bike to die or not start or other running problems (if it hasnt done so already). Seriously. Plug the large (PCV) hose. Plug the "to carb" hose and leave the "to tank" hose unplugged. It all can be done at the canister (or more neatly done in more than the 5 minutes it will take to do it this way). My apologies if you have already done this and just decided to leave the canister on the bike. |

Gearheaderiko, can you provide a step by step with pictures of the things to do for this? |

Welcome "Jack crank"! The following is the link to the "how to" and a picture of the canister. My above post is all you really need to do. All 3 hoses go to the canister (see pic link below) and everything can be done right there. However, if you dont have a California Blast , you dont need to worry about it (canister is in the above picture under the frame above the rear tire). http://www.badweatherbikers.com/buell/messages/201 64/76349.html?1247694495 Picture: http://www.badweatherbikers.com/buell/messages/201 64/310671.jpg |

Hello, So far, I have done the following mods: Superbike bars, XB Mirrors, grips, Fork Brace, Corbin seat, rear fender mod, changed blinker lights, headlight changed, Banke rear sets, iridium plug, re jetted carb and needle replacement, Das boot and modified air air intake, Pirelli tires, I have a set of unopened Crossrods cafe bars but I have yet to do this set up. I may be selling bike and focus on my XB12STT. I have really enjoyed working on the Blast. Here are a few pics of my Blast Project. http://www.flickr.com/photos/aschem/sets/72157625200010567/

Aschem what did you do with the catch can breather is that hook to the trans vent? I don't think you should keep it like that. If it fills up with PVC gunk its going to start dumping that shit in your transmission not good. |

No, I used the system from the guy that makes the Das Boot for Carb. I purchased his complete system and made only a small mod changing the air cleaner. |

lol, Thumpe is the Guy that made the whole system. I was wondering about that vent tube as well. Your bike looks cool it'd be a shame if you were still gonna sell it. |

Aschem i'm that guy that made your intake an i'm telling you it's not hooked up right. Here's a pic of how the hose should be run from the PVC from the head to the catch can then from the catch can to a drain hose an plug not into the transmission vent. See the red line on the hose in the pic it go's behind the tran vent not into it and down below the motor with the plug in it. An your catch can is on backwards too.

Dan I got a question for ya. I routed my vent hose the same route as yours but It seems to be kinked enough that there is some residue of oil around the catch can. Not too bad that it can't be wiped off but some spots are hard to get at. |

Hey Sycho do you have a pic i can see where it's kinking at? You can pickup a foot of 3/8" transmission line at the auto parts store doesn't kink as easy as the oem line. |

Thanks Dan, I went and got what you recommended and installed today. As well as cleaning up all the grit and oil.lol. |

You don't have it right either! You have to put it between the starter an the tranny vent and a little brake clean will take care of that mess. lol |

Oh I know, these were the pics before the new hose went on. I had routed the hose in front of the tranny vent awhile back when I tried to lessen the kink the first time. The new hose is routed in it's proper place with no kinks at all. Thanks again for the advice Dan. Now another question, how often do you need to clean these K&N filters? And what do you clean them in? I used Simple Green on the Air Filter the first time and on the Vent filter when I did the re-hosing. |

EZ i did lol it's the pic before sycho's. Sycho simple green is good i use it myself. How often you clean them depends on how much you ride an if you do a lot dirt roads or not. I do it every time i change the oils at 2500 mile an i don't do dirt. |

I put it on backwards as I had a bolt break on case and had to make a new bracket. I'll re-route hoses. Now, if I can only remember where the tranny vent hose goes. (Message edited by aschem on December 03, 2010) |

You can run it down to the swingarm where the PVC line use to go with the oil drain hose. |

I wanted to compliment you on the transformation you are working on. I think the Blast kinda begs to be café-d if you will. Big 1-cylinder bikes were definitely part of the café scene in the UK..ie BSA, Enfield, etc. I noticed on the new show Café Racer some of the shops were trying to add monoshock suspensions to their projects (which is not easy to do right), while in the Blast this part is already done and the easy part is changing the seat, bars, intake, etc. I think if someone would make a nice fiberglass café seat for the Blast it would sell. Your sprocket cover is sick..but how about wrapping the exhaust pipe with header tape and perhaps adding aftermarket exhaust? Throw on some checkered paint and you'd be ready to do the ton, mate! And your bike is SO CLEAN! Looks great. How'd you get it so amazingly clean? |

Brake Cleaner, WD40, Turtle Wax Black,Plexus Clear Plastic Scratch Remover, Novus #2 Scratch Remover, and ArmorAll Gloss and a world of the Scott kitchen soft paper towels - lol - rarely - once a year, maybe - do I ever use a hose/water - only if really muddy and then gently, trying to keep water from electrics, carb, etc. EZ |

How is it that so many are doing 'cafe styled' blasts and I've yet to see one set of spoke wheels on a blast in this thread? Some of these bikes have a lot of potential, have some awesome parts, but when I see it with the stock wheels it throws the whole look off. Not cafed at all, just a little 'cafe style' nose piece and you call it a cafe bike. Weak. |

Spokes flex and are worthless in high performance - something the modern cafe would be all about! Wire wheels was all they had back then, if they had had the wheels we have today, they would never have bothered with wire/spoke type - thats just a fact - wire wheels today would only be for looks and would defeat the true spirit of the cafe which was performance! They also cost $$$$, need to be adapted to fit and there arent any "off the shelf" parts to do it either. Its not like a Harley that you can just swap a set of spoked wheels on and unlike most of the other Buells, no one makes custom wheels for a Blast. Also most are unwilling to sink what amounts to 1/2 to full price (or better) of what they paid for their Blast on a set of wheels. It'd be cheaper to buy retro Triumph and then maybe you'd get your money back when you go to sell. Now posting about something you know nothing about, thats weak! |
