looks pretty, the rest of the stuff I mentioned takes no time in the doing and falls in line with re-assembly anyways. EZ |

I've not been inside the Buell but most, if not all, the bikes I've ever worked on have a stator that looks like that. ____________________ Firing order: 1 |

The wires to the winding look way too thick! Compare it to the old one, this one looks really crude. You can always dip it in some paint..... |

Few questions: What is stock HP/TQ of a blast? Are there any/many performance upgrades? And if so, worth it? Price vs power upgrade? Has anyone, that you know of, tried putting this in a different frame? Whats a used blast motor (running) go for these days? May sound silly, but I was reading the most recent Cafe Racer mag and they have an article on dirtbikes converted to a cafe-ish style. I'd love to spend a few bucks on an old (70s) enduro and get it ridable to putt around town on. And what would be better would be a Buell powerplant. Twin would be too big, but maybe not a blast single. Just thinking... |

True - the mt75 is way better than the Dunlop! Blast motors - around 500 - I've been working on that very thing forever it seems!
lol - this bike is way lighter than stock! EZ |

The other side is nice as well.
with all the cutting, trimming, and replacing with much lighter versions - rolling a stocker and then my bike shows a definite difference in weight! Maybe swap out the battery, that would be 5 lbs - the total light exchange is a serious weight loss, gonna try the higher watt bulb I have for the light - nice japanese items - each 10 watts more - perfect - I'm hoping - you get spoiled with that legal lighting that my last Acerbis had at 130 watts at once - and off position - lol - so I'm basically going for just over half that wattage with just a quick swap out of the two bulbs. The LEDs are just cool. But all that stuff is way lighter than stock stuff by a lot! EZ |

OK with that tricked out bike EZ I guess my bike would be considered the Geezer Gocycle. You've done a great job taking an already unique bike and made it look amazing. Without all the help I get here I wouldn't have the ability to have the kind of fun I have on the Blast. Thanks again - got stator in, new regulator, new battery and all put back together. I think even the vibration has lessened a little bit, wierd as that sounds. Back in the saddle again... |

BTW - Thumper was admiring your bike and wanted to know what you use to cut the plastic - dremel, and if so what cutting wheel? |

I used a hack saw for the rough cut - that part will really mess with your mind and have you swearing you totally screwed the pouch - ignore those thoughts, and the Dremel sanding drum - for the clean up and evening up - different grits - starts looking a lot nicer very quickly, then buffed gently with black heal die for boots, then polished with Turtlewax black car polish - lol - not the shoe wax - then Armorall for the shine - lol EZ |

I took the Blast to our church - I wanted to enjoy some serious twisties - Morgan Territory Rd - afterwards in celebration of its revival. What makes that interesting is that I usually take the CR, and the usher who rides a Uly comes up to me and says, "I've always admired your CR, but I'm sorry - your Blast is just awesome!..." It was a way cool complement and made it a start of a really nice day of riding around. The ride reminded me all over again why I really like this bike. Each corner easily taken, where I have to wrestle with the big bike three-quarters of the time, just makes a scenic ride a world of fun! The CR always leaves me frazzled and tuckered after Morgan Territory Road, though I am getting better at its completion times - lol - the modified Blast makes it a breeze, and always leaves a smile. Two different bikes - both leave a smile, but at the end of the day - the Blast is a Blast! - lol - and the CR is fast! (just have more to learn on it and it is actually helping my Blast riding to improve as well.) EZ |

Welcome to the Thumper Forum Snakerr14! There was some pictures and instructions on how to do this somewhere around here...I just don't have the time to look right now... The Blast, like most H-D(spit) engines are "Dry sump" engines, in other words the oil is not stored in the crankcase, it is stored somewhere else. In the case of the Blast the oil is stored in the backbone of the frame. To change the oil, warm the bike up to help things flow and to get most of the oil scavanged out of the crankcase. On the left foot peg bracket there are two rubber lines with plugs in them. One is the oil reservior(frame) drain and the other is a drain for the crank case breather system. Remove them both and let them drain out, it will be evident which one is the oil reservoir drain as lots of oil will come out and the other will only give up a small amount of a milky colored oil and water mixture. Replace the oil filter. When is is drained out, reinstall the plugs, refill the reservoir with about 1 3/4 quarts of your choice of a 20-50 full synthetic oil, go for a ride and shut it off and recheck the oil refilling only to the half way mark on the dip stick. From this moment on ONLY check the oil hot after you shut it down from a ride. Good luck, tell us how it went for you! Thinking of your Uly at 2 1/2 qts - lol - fixed that for ya - lol - no biggie! Im really hoping someone can answer the power question and what sort of upgrades are available. Also - pushrod covers, I notice that they have the plastic piece covering the pushrods - can this be removed to display the pushrods? Can anyone tell me the approximate weight of the blast motor? |

Power - how much you willing to spend? - stock to the rear is 25 to 27 hp and ft-lbs torque. Weight around 200 lbs, been put in a lot of different frames, and the push-rod cover could only be switched out to a heavier chrome adjustable one, useful if you really get into the engine. Up grades - lol - check our sponsors and take the time to read our different sections about various topics - I myself am re-reading up on the DAJ again - I really liked it on the other bike and I think it may be the last thing needed to make my other Blast's performance smoother and more linear as well. There are a world of choices for a Blast to be even more of a Blast! See my ever evolving profile to see what I mean. - lol EZ |

The bike was born red but is painted with walmart spray on bedliner. ill take a closer pic of the bars in a little bit, the bike came with them but the owner had them flipped upside down. It looked sweet but not exactly comfortable. Front fender looked stock to me, might be the angle |

Looks good! Fork brace, braided line, perhaps Laverda/Jotta bars, all you need are rearsets, and you have a new formula for fun as a start - lol - then just work on the suspension a part at a time. EZ |

Parkd86, do you have a motorcycle-savvy friend to look at it with you? I don't think the price is out of line, if there's no significant damage. And the Blast is the best ever practical easy to maintain/ride/fix bike ever. |
