Thanks ya'll - both Harbor Freight (the fun store!) and Home Depot are within range today. (And the $900 pistol is always within range and hopefully nobody will ever have to appreciate that) |

The nice thing about Snap on Tq wrenches is the free calibration. It is a once in a life time purchase. I told my dad when he dies I want him to Will it to me. |

So...in the rush to check the stator, overlooked a close inspection of the chain guide...time for a new one???

If they are available within the same time frame as the stator, I'd replace them anyway. I cant really tell if pieces are coming off in chunks or just regular wear. If its chunks or they are visibly cracked or breaking apart, then I'd certainly replace them. |

I was working for my son today delivering a new 250 Ninja to some kid in Jacksonn, really made his day, he said something like "a dream come true" Anyways I told you that to tell you this, I was wandering around in the storage area and saw a 450 Aprillia V-Twin in a crate and asked a couple of questions about it. Apparently when they assembled the engines(Ducati) they used too much sealer and the excess sealer spooged out on the inside of the case, became free floating and plugged oil galleries causing oil starvation. The deal is you can get a 500 Aprillia and get the 450 as a parts bike as a buy one get two deal. Not that I am interested in getting an Aprillia, but I am thinking what would have been possible for the Blast if Erik had been off the chain to build a V-twin 500. Lets just hope he gets a chance to do something like that someday. |

The 450 is all I saw, it had knobbies and lights and it looked sexy...probably an enduro, not a supa-motard or street fighter. |

uh oh Ez, did you feel a twinge in the Force when Darthblasterd signed up? Hey I got a general question, is there a trick to getting the shifter arm on tight? I have cranked as much as possible on the frikin pinch screw and it shift pedal still moves on me. |

Sycho, I had the same issue after I laid mine down. I had to get a new shifter pedal and screw. That took care of it. |

Swampy, had EB danced with the one he brought to the prom, he'd probably still have a company. Why should a division of "The Motor Company" be buying motors from other manufacturers?? IMO, his 1125 project couldn't have gone over well at the HD board meetings. __________________________ Firing order: 1 (Message edited by Awf Hand on March 28, 2011) |

I've asked this before and I don't recall the answer... For those of you who've rerouted the PCV breather to somewhere other than the airbox/carburetor, where do you now have the vent-to-atmosphere so it doesn't get oil mist on your bike's delicates? Thanks in advance, Awf ______________________ Firing order: 1 |

haha! Hey guys the dirt and snow doo guys at a shop I went to to pick up a couple jets, are saying i should do more like 48 /165 to be on safe side riding my bike around the Rockies. I wanna be safe but i want performance too. The clowns at the shop i went to even went as far as saying not to trust any info i get from this forum. I've been reading this forum for years long before picked up my p3, in fact its been my inspiration to buy a buell. After the argument I had with the Dude behind the counter that he didn't know what he was talking about it turn out he didn't have the the jets he recommended or the jets I asked for -DB |

Did you check what jet you have in it yet DB? From what you told me with the V&H on there the last owner might have changed them. Did the last owner live in the mountains too? |

Hey Thumpe, the original owner lived in Golden Co at alot lower elevation than the Vail valley sitting at about 8150ft. Golden is closer to Denver sittings at about 5280 feet. I took the the carb bowl off this morning and got the jetts out. It turns out the original owner never jetted. the the bike still has the stock jets in it 42/ 170 -DB |

At least go to 45/175 - that should be fine - parts numbers are in carb section - you can order on line at Chicago HD 20 percent off, and they would be there soon enough. Unless you have a lot of popcorn on decel (you can partially dial out with air screw - go to 3 turns out, when you get the right jets go to 2 3/4 turns out) 42/170 shouldn't be too bad at that altitude. Give NHRS a call and see what they say - they are in the Denver area, probably have the jets you need as well - lol EZ |

I go with EZ on this one. Give NHRS a call there right down the mtn. from you they would know best. An if you want to get crazy with it. It's Nice having them close by. |

I just got my new stator HD Part No 29967-89C - funny thing about this one, all the copper wires are bare - both the one off the '05 and the one I just took off the '09 are covered with black insulation. What gives? |

They sent you a bad one - should be insulated. EZ |

The guy at HD (spit) says that the insulation is "clear epoxy" and will turn black after it gets hot...does this sound anywhere near correct? I have not given it a real close inspection, just kind of looked at it while passing through the door and noticed the copper. I will check it closer when I get home, but FWIW - thought I would post again and see what ya'll think. |

Yeah - appears as though there is a very thin clear coating. I don't know what the difference means in quality or durability, guess we'll see. Hate to be the guinea pig but also hate seeing that thing on a lift.
