If the '01 wasn't an '01 I'd agree with James. PURELY anecdotal, unscientific accounts tell me that '01 was the only year with Blasts dropping valves and with this funky un-torqued screw in the primary - the valve dropping by far being the more perilous and costly proposition. But James is right. Save the money ad buy older / higher mileage. I'd just wish it wasn't an '01. -Saro |

Local dealer has a brand new 2003 (red) for $3250 and prices close to that for new have been reported around the country.James is right on about the 2001 price unless it has every mod you want on it! Most Blasts I've seen seem to sell with low miles always under 10,000 usually under 5000! Blasts have low resale value and for some stupid reason people put 500 miles on a Blast & think they're ready to 'move up' to a big bike?!? (sorry about your 'Lectra Glide) |

Has anyone had any experience with pressing in a Blast/Buell/Sportster transmission into the Primary side of the case? I'm having difficulties. I know the book calls for a $400 - $600 special tool, but even with the proper tool, my neighborhood H-D/Buell Shop couldn't do it. I have my own press, and I'm working on getting the tool borrowed so I can do it my self and see what the heck is going on. Any advice? Thanks, --Nik |

So, tell me about this untorqued screw so I can fix it before my '01 drops a valve! I only have about 17K on mine, and I'd like it to last a while. |

that was a matter of line quality issues - if it hasn't happened to you by now you should be fine Joey. By now you'll have noticed that I rearranged the KV and quick board - I tried to make everything a little easier to find - hope that helps and if you have sugestions let them fly - this is your resource in the end and I'm trying, but only with feed back will I know if its working for you! Great job EZ! I can find things easier. Whats Joey talking about for the Air Box Modification? Is he meaning the Crankcase Vent reroute? |

Naw - there is an airbox mod that in conjunction with a K&N filter will have you breathing almost as good as a stack (as good as it gets without ram air at 80 plus) - at least according to my dyno and jetting experiments - have ran both on the same bike with the same modifications - lol - so going with the Pro series is really just an option to give your bike a different look - more or less - the procedure is in the KV Engine section in the Procedures section - lol - Hope that helps! I run both the Torque Stack (from American Sport Bike)on my Black and the Pro series on my Red - I like to be different! Got Thump?! Just Blasting on the Dark side! definatly better organized, however I still think that badweb should invest in VB3 software... especially since there is advertising on the site already that can pay for it. |

I was working in Mackinaw City doing bus safety inspections for the DOT all week and found this motorcoach with a pegasus on the side of it. The driver says that Cavallo is Italian for horse. Can you say big?

The tail pipe of my Vance & hines muffler has rattled right off (and then went under my rear tire). It looks like it gradually wore the steel away until it could slide out. I figured it would be no sweat in getting it replaced since I bought it last summer from rocky's h-d (london Ontario). After having it for a week, they determined that it is not going to be covered under warranty due to "hard use". I'm not the most mechanically-sauvy guy around, so please explain... How can I over use a muffler? I realize my bike is the cheapest one in their shop, but that didn't bother them when I paid $600 for the part last year. anyone know a solution for this? I really don't want to shell out more money for a part that shouldn't need replacing. You'd think that a shop who advertises as a BRAG member would be a little more helpful. chris

Wow - thats too wild! contact V&H and order a new can (and mounting if needed) and put it on yourself - an easy job! Sounds like the Dealer would rather sell you the proseries - lol - at 600 they have already sold you enough bill of goods - find a different dealer or start working on that puppy yourself would be my recommendation. The 'hard use' could be damage from bottoming out, otherwise they sound like WB customer service. Perhaps if your engine was highly modified that would be hard use also.Contact V & H, I'm sure they would love to hear that excuse, wouldnt say much for the quality of their product (engine modified or not). |

So I attended the MSF course over the weekend with my wife. We both passed - but I managed to make it interesting... Any one who has taken the course will remember when they set up the oval on the first day and encourage you to "get some speed" and "feel that lean" for the first time. (My class was mostly first time riders). Yeah, well. After removing all the rubber from the pegs of my GZ125 Suzuki and beveling the soles of my shoes on the first dozen laps, I gave me self some space set up for another peg punishing looping right hander. My foot was dragging hard as I passed the apex and rolled it w.o.t. and I could feel the rear tire debating with itself on whether or not to continue accepting the abuse when I realized that I was closing on the rider ahead of me at a rate that exceeded her total net speed. I had myself in a predicament alright. A professional rider might have been able to straighten up and narrowly miss her. But I, a relative novice, was unable to quell the simple urge to, ever so slightly, back off the throttle... WHOOOOSSH, CRASSSSSH, SCREEEEECH, GRIND. Whew. I got up. Picked up the bike. Threw my leg over it, and was just about to fire it back up when the 2 instructors arrived at my side. I was embarrassed. But not hurt. And, Thankfully the instructors weren't so much as irritated - and let me continue. It actually kinda fun - ( If low-siding can ever be considered fun.) And I was really glad to do it on their bike rather than mine - Having learned where the limit is - I will (hopefully) be able to avoid dumping my own bike. Which is exactly what I told the 11 incredulous beginners who were looking at me like I was the biggest idiot they'd ever met. I probably am. |

Naustin, Great story! Is your wife planning on riding the Blast? Is she really confident on it? Mine did a high side on hers in some really easy curves the second trip out and ended her career. The bikes OK though and the Big Kid is riding the Heck out of it. |

Suhweet LOL!!(I'm laughing with you, not at you). I dont know how much torque those little Suzukis have, but the first thing I noticed on the Blast is how much torque it has to engine brake.Backing off on the throttle if you're not careful can lead to the rear tire sliding. You can also get it to slide if you hammer the throttle when leaned way over (not easily done though). Glad your okay and not deterred from riding, but when you start scraping pegs thats where the fun begins (and sometimes ends). |

LOL... Yeah, I can't believe I did that - At the MSF class no less. Yes, my wife rides the blast. She drove it about 20 miles with me on the back yesterday. She's pretty good with it, except that she tends to lug it on the starts. She really enjoys it, so I'm going to continue to encourage her -- the more she rides the more confidance she'll have. We both went up to the DMV and got our endorsements today. |

Thanks, Glitch, I'm too computer obstinant to do the photo shop thing, the Little Kid has been making some pretty good fake drivers licenses lately though. You should send it to the bus company, they have a nice website. BTW, the Big Kid has been complaining about how the P3 shifts,so tonight I pull the primary to get a little looks see, and what do I find? Nothing!~!!!! So I button it back up(With the new metal gasket), set the Sporttrans Fluid to the side and filled'er up with Mobile 1, then took it out for a little run. Shifts fine, I let the Big Kid drive the Sporty this time(A real Treat for him thanks to Progressive Insurance) My recommendation.....Use Mobile 1 in the primary!! Looks like a couple of good riding days in Michigan, but alas, I work in Mishawauka, IN tomorrow! |

I'm trying to be positive, but that Pro series intake - I think is starting to go through another boot. Symptoms - when cold - decel popping, and a slight surge when letting go on the throttle, warm - the idle is faster. Is there anything else I should be looking at? Everything else is new/fresh - plug, wire, oil, etc. - air screw 2.8 turns out. I'll check the tank line also, but I really suspect the boot. Well at least its easy to change out. Over 3,000miles on the stack and still holding for over 2/3rds of that on the origional boot since I went to springs only. Before - running various metal suports - a few hundred miles between differing brackets/systems. So far though the stack has been flawless and proving itself fit for duty for the everyday - up to being very water proof with the stack filter in place - lol GT - JBOTDS! EZ |

Are you using a velocity stack?! The decel pop sounds like a lean condition, but the surge could be either depending on where in the throttle range your letting off from. The fast warm idle definitely sounds lean. I'd vote intake leak. Spray some carb cleaner all over the boot and the aluminum manifold, if the idle speed changes at all, you've got your answer. I'm working on an all-aluminum manifold that bolts directly to the head and uses a flange-mount carb. --Nik |
