I bought a 2001 blast as a bike my wife and I can ride. Me for work and her for pleasure. Current mods: kerker, PS intake, rejet 45/170, mix screw out 2.75 turns. 3500 miles with minor scuffs and scratches. New rocker gaskets, plug, wire, altered padding in normal seat. Today I performed all maintenance required to bring it to date. The bike still had the spacer on the primary adjustment bolt. I have been scouring looking for an alteration to XB12 primary chain set and found 1 series of posts which stated the xb primary outer case and shoe were required as well as the chain and sprockets. I did the same thing to my XR1200 for a 7mpg increase in mileage and more relaxed ride on interstate. Can anyone verify this is true? Can I just install a 38T primary sprocket and chain? After riding awhile I found a tear in the intake boot. I have the proseries intake and was looking for a support bracket or a temp means to get the bike running. ( tried a 1.5" pipe coupler but it popped off in a 1/4 mile.) Any ideas on temporary fix for the boot or a true permanent one? I have read about Das Boot, Super boot but can't seem to locate an actual seller... Is a super boot the best choice for a repair? Lastly I altered the kerker to sit in the resonance tube position pipe. I repacked the exhaust and installed a freeze plug vertically in an attempt to lessen the sound. Are there any other options other than the factory exhaust? The factory unit is a boat anchor and on our last P3 it cracked the head pipe ~4" from the exhaust port. Is there a happy medium of no maintenance, light and reasonable sound? Is there anything else I can do to improve the efficiency of the bike? Are there different countershaft pulleys? Should I do any other mods for reliability? Thanks all... Rich |

Others also report the same. So its not as if the boot will split every other ride. The stock Blast boot or "superboot" are the only choices. Nothing else works for very long. Keep a spare stock boot on hand. I cant think of a quiet reliable exhaust that wont at least need maintenance. I doubt the V & H is much quieter than the Kerker (but I dont really know). The Jardine might be a better choice. I only know whats been reported here on the XB12 chain and sprockets and I'm inclined to believe you need the primary cover too. Every tall gear primary conversion I've seen uses the XB primary.I do have an XB12 chain and sprocket if some measurements might help. You can change also the trans gears for different gearing or install a recalled 2000 year rear pulley (at your own risk). Neither, imho, is as practical as the XB primary set-up. |

Bub or D&D would be 90 maintenance free - maybe a weld after a serious bump, or the occasional coat of hi temp paint, could last forever with care - I still have mine! Superboot rocks, and yes you need the cover as well, and tensioner, it puts you half way to rearsets as well. EZ |

Thanks fellas. I will order one from Dan. Does Dan come on the board anymore? Does any year XB12 cover and tensioner work? Will the xb9? I guess I will live with the exhaust as is... maybe try an alteration or 2. Does kerker/supertrapp make an end cap of steel? Has anyone ever cut open the stock unit to lighten and open the flow? Who or where can I get a larger countershaft pulley? I don't want a recalled pulley and chance breakage. Thanks fellas |

Concur, but..... According to the write-up at the American Sport Bike site, they say the XB12 gearing will fit the XB9, without any indication of a primary cover change. So I need XB12 38T sprocket and chain, XB 12/9 tensioner assembly, cover and gasket? Anything else? Gear what would you suggest for stock valving? |

EZ's Stock bike Mods: 1)Drill a 1 5/8" hole directly across from the first hole of the stock exhaust on the same side as the stock hole but all the way to the right of it. 2)Rejet 45/170 (some years will have 170 stock - some don't) 3)Shim needle to 0.05 - 2 #4 machined brass washers is close. 4)Do the air box Mod - mild or wild - still keeping the basic look though. 5)Drill air-screw plug out, and bottom screw then turn 2 2/3 turns out. 6)Do primary adjustment - preferably sound method - on the loose side. 7)Make a splitter or buy one - http://scaryfastracing.net/harley.html - see carb tkv. 8)Buy an Yost Tube and put it in your carb - Ebay has them cheap for a CV40 - 2000 era - discard the rest of kit. Eight simple things to increase the delivery of power on a Buell Blast - making it even more of a Blast to ride! EZ |

As per EZ's LIst 1. complete due to kerker exhaust. Moved can to resonance tube, plugged other tube,reworked mount bracket, repacked and installed a supertrapp spark arrestor with 12 discs. It now has a reasonable tone and I can turn left easier. 2. complete. verified jetting yesterday. 3. Will verify this setting when I change coupler to super boot. 4. complete. Pro series buell. Installed an alum. brace tonight. 5. Complete. Placed it 2.75 turns. 6. Complete. Installed Royal purple 20w50. Factory spacer still in place. 7. Don't really get the theory on this one... Can someone point me to a page with info? 8. Never dealt with this item? Heard of it but have always done the poor man's jet kit and did not worry about a different tube. Next: Spacers in forks, shock and change fork oil. Install superboot. XB12 gearing??? maybe Has there been any kind of development into 3, 4 valve or OHC heads? Rich |

There was a 4 valve head produced. I have no idea if its still available. Switching to an XB head (and matching piston) will give you more power and better gas mileage. Actually with the XB head and cams, mpg was almost as good as stock, but with much more power! |
