Rainman,
Read the post above!
You have a few more years to go on that Blast, so quit your worrying.
The Big Kid had I think 27K on his before the bottom end went out, but that was because the oil pump drive gear puked and he rode it with no oil pressure, after installing a new gear and oil pump he got 11k more out of it. And you have to remember how he rides the thing, like he is trying to break it!
I met Buellboy492 today, totally out of the blue!
I was driving around for work and saw a Buell Lightening go by so I followed it down an alley and into a neighborhood, I wasn't going to stop until I saw the Blast sitting in the garage.
As I walked up the driveway, I introduced myself telling him "I saw two Buells so I just had to stop" and he said "You're Swampy from the Badweb!"
Small world, Badweb Rocks!

F'N awesome Swampy!

I'd say 50k for a Blast without pulling it apart. At a minimum 33k. But you'll have to read Maggie's profile for a rundown of what she's had to do to her's.
Jprovo's 2002 is pushing past 50k, but he did just do the top end and he did have a valve guide go under warranty.
He's also thrown it down the road a few times and runs the wheels off of it!

Is it a #32 drill bit for adjusting the shifter paw? I left my book on the work bench at my dads.

Where did you guys get the bit? non of the hardware stores have a #32 around me.

well a #32 is not a common number 36, 29 and 25 are common because they come with matching std taps.

I though HD would have used a 36 or 29 bc you would get them with std tap kits.

Granger here I come.....
Maybe I should ask American Sport Bike to stock them so when you order all the gaskets for the paw adjustment, you can save shipping and get the drill bit too.

Mine's bone-stock, gets ridden mostly in town with a occasional 90-mile freeway jaunts at 75 and hasn't been dropped since it was an RE bike.

It runs so damn good I can't see getting another bike except for the freeway.

If I can get to 50k, I'll be happy.

Rainman, try sitting on a 04+ seat and it might make your but happier for the freeway runs. Eliminating the need for slab bike.

Seriously, I will send you a #32 if you want me too. A trip to Home Depot showed me how rare that size is : (

Of course it might be just as fast to order one here:

You can even get a #32 drill bit "blank" or a #32 left handed bit (you never know when it will come in handy)!

I went by Granger during my lunch break and used my uncles business account to purchase the 3 #32 bits for cheep.
Thanks of the offer Erik.

I also went by Sears and bought Craftsman Professional 1500 lb. Motorcycle/ATV Jack Model# AG02883G on sale for $179
Now is just have to lower the motor to the raised jack instead of to the floor.

05 seats are the new style and the only new seat sold. It is way more comfortable than the stock seat. I'm going to have the Corbin seat reshaped, The new Blast seats are actually not bad at all on longer trips, though the Corbin is still better. Sure after 250 miles, your a tad sore, but even on a Corbin that would be true to a lesser extent.

Rick Mayer makes a custom seat with your pan to your measurements. I can't compare it to the Corbin because I have never used one, but I love my saddle. Of course, it may not have the look you are after, everybody has their own vision when it comes to style vs. functionality. I had an extra pan when I had mine done a few years back so no down time. I don't know if he would have any core pans in stock now...I also can't recall what I paid for it, so not sure how it would compare to Corbin.

Just thought I would throw out there some food for thought www.rickmayercycle.com

Hello Buell enthusiasts! I'm new to the gang. I just bought a 2000 Buell Blast and this is my first bike. I'm loving it. However, the bike has only 3000 miles on it and today the rear sprocket broke. I found online that that sprocket was recalled back in 2000. I checked with the original owner and he did not ever have it fixed under recall. Will the deaqlership still honor this recall after 10 years?? If not how much is this gonna cost me? Thanks

Was riding home today when I "appeared" to run out of fuel. Pulled over, swapped to reserve & it fired right back up. I was a bit mystified, since I'd filled the tank yesterday, but had put 125ish miles on since the fill. It took 1.8 gal today. I tend to fill it to the bottom of the filler neck & do it on the sidestand (been too lazy to climb back on to stand it upright). so - my question is : how much capacity am I losing by filling it on the sidestand? Once I swapped to reserve it ran fine the next 10 or so miles to the gas station and the next 7 home. I know it could be water or clogged screen - but my 1st thought was the sidestand.

On a side note, I don't think any service had ever been done since I bought it, since the spacer was still on the primary chain, so I had the dealer service it. Whoa - what a difference in the way it runs - I now don't have a binary clutch (pulled in or all the way out) and my right hand didn't go numb riding 50 miles home!

125 is about the time I'm out of gas. Two gallons at 60 mpg is 120 distance. That's pretty decent mileage.

I usually switch to reserve around 120 and end up with about 1.9 to 2 gallons at fill up. Tank is only 2.-something

Thanks Rainman. Since I had been getting about 70MPG and the Blast is supposed to have a 2.8 gal tank (.55 gal of that 2.8 is supposed to be reserve) I just figured that it was too soon. The previous fill-up I was cheap and went for 87 octane instead of 92... could contribute. It's just weird - .55 gal reserve (even if it's .75) I still only put in 1.8 gal.
Guess I hit the pump sooner.

You're not losing much by filling it on the sidestand.
If you're constantly riding, then you can get away with 'overfilling' the tank (past the recommended level). However, if its summertime and you park or ride in the sun, it will overflow quickly from the heat. It can even shut your bike down (rare on non CA bikes. A certainty on CA bikes).

Well, finally happened last night. Some jackass tried to steal my Blast outta my apt lot. They were amateur enough to be deterred by the steering lock to my relief, I only have liability. Rain delay last night meant fireworks at the Ballpark at 2AM and more late night traffic than usual. I found it pushed back up on the curb nearly laid over, only damage being a broken fork reflector. I'm pondering creative anti-theft ideas that don't cost more than I spent on the bike. May have to go Mad Max on it after all : )

Anybody here attach a set of Givi hard side cases to a Blast. There's a cool fairing/shield, A750, that looks great but I want side and top cases too.

I'd like to build a P3-T to go with my P3-ST (soft bags, tail pack and way oversized tankbag that makes it look like the bike as a tumor, besides the rider.)

I have seen a picture of someone who had mounted some type of hard case, but right at the moment I can't recall what, who, or where it was posted, I will start looking.

I also wanted to replace my saddlebags with hard cases of some sort but was a little worried about the added weight. I can't take the chance that they would cut the life of my bike short. Since they quit making the Buell I don't know what I'll do when this one wears out, I just don't have any desire to ride something different.

Would love to hear myself if someone has ride tested hard bags, how they affected the suspension and how they were mounted.

Rainman, if you figure this one out, as your "relative" then you must clue me in

Will do!

I'm looking into the future and figuring that, as I'm getting comfortable doing my own maintenance, I might as well pick up another Blast for cheap and trick it out strictly for highway driving than buy an NT700V or something.

Drop 2K for a used Blast, add $3k in mods for fairing, top box and side cases new seat and stereo (in an earlier thread) and I'm still ahead.

Might contact the GIVI people or American Sport Bike might have a clue.

Quick questions guys. Has anybody else on here had their Rocker Box gasket go bad more than once? If so how long do they usually last? And what am I doing wrong to need another one replaced? 1st one at roughly 11,000 miles, and now at 23,000 miles.

Its nothing you are doing. Its shouldnt go at 11k miles. Which gasket is leaking? Just the top gasket or the lower upper gasket? The top gasket is easy, lower gasket takes a little more work. Is it the PCV valve?

I've never left a top end alone for 11,000 miles so I cant be of much more help!!!

2005 Blast. Rocker box gasket went @ 7500 miles. It could have had something to do with the broken engine mounting bolt! It hasn't recurred since both were replaced.

Sycho, make sure they are using the current gasket part numbers and not putting on a NOS gasket. The new gasket is MLS with orange "rubber" top and bottom.
