Was running my '01 blast about 70 and it lost power, and won't start now. Took it to the dealership for diags and was told the Ignition Coil was bad. I replaced the coil and still wont fire. My next step is to replace the plug wire. I have strong compression and getting fuel. Any ideas??? |

check for spark, you can ground the plug to the side of the head or get a spark tester for a Briggs and straton. After that, the only thing left is fuel. |

Would a loose or disconnected front ground wire cause this issue? Nevermind just checked grounds all are good. Plug wire tomorrow. (Message edited by videoninja on June 28, 2010) |

New plug wire and still no dice. I don't believe fuel is the issue the plug is wet when i pull it and the carb seems to be moving plenty of fuel, I am getting spark outside the cylinder not sure about anything beyond that |

check the timing. make sure the timing cup didn't spin and the red light on the ignition module lights up near when the flywheel mark is in the window. |

Ok I retract my fuel statement pulled the plug and it's dry, but the carb is pulling fuel like a champ. Won't fire on starting fluid either. |

Das Boot is in good shape. I havent done a compression test other than hand against carb and tail pipe and feels strong. I also "bypassed" the kick stand switch |

Please refrain from posting about the same problem on 2 different threads. Its confusing and makes it difficult to help when there are people responding on the two threads. |

If it wont fire with starting fluid, you have a serious problem. Not a puff? If the spark plug is producing a nice blue spark (not yellow), then check the compression with a tester. 75psi of compression, will show compression. But its really low to be able to run and starting is very difficult. Given that you seemingly have checked everything, I would get a good reading on the condition of the compression. Compression testers are cheap. Also: How much oil is in the bike? Granted, if it wont run then it probably wont show any oil in the frame either. But have you added a lot of oil recently or when was the last time you checked? |

Center diode is flipped, Posted on two because I initially thought it was a electrical issue but have come to the conclusion it isn't I am getting strong blue spark but the plug is dry. I did an oil change about 300-400 miles ago and oil levels seemed fine in checks afterwards. At this point I believe it's a valve issue. |

A compression check will confirm a valve issue. |

if it has low or no compression, i am betting on a striped oil pump gear. |

Concur! Thats what I suspect too. But it could/should still run with a stripped gear, its just what did it take with it? |
