I was browsing ebay and saw a "Round Headlamp Diamond Back Conversion Kit" for a buell blast. Since more visible is better when on a bike I thought an upgrade might be a good idea. My question is this: Will using a H-4 bulb cause any problems with my electrical system, or any other issues I should know about? My apologies if this is covered somewhere else (a quick forum search didn't answer my question) thanks Blastman |

Well it depends on its power draw - the stock is rated at 45 watts, I've been told max load from the front light can be 80. However, I know amperage comes into play also. All said - if it plugs in and doesn't max the wattage you should be ok. Sean has a 65w from a Beamer in his, and it works! Got Thump?! Just Blasting on the Dark side! EZ |

I use a 100w H-4. No problems! Battery charges just as well. --Nik |

I used (and still do though the bike is in storage) a 7"lamp assembly from Candlepower with a 100/135W H4 bulb (I think the real draw on the bulb was 50/65...it worked fine...next up is a pair of projectors |

I just ordered the twin headlight setup like I've seen on some Ducati Monsters and the Triumphs. http://www.toolparts.co.uk/acatalog/Front_Lights.html |

well, if the connectors don't match, you could cut the connectors off and hard wire the lights in... |

That's what I wanna do, but how do I know which wire goes to the other? The headlight wires are different colors from the Buell wires. |

Test them! Cut off the connector that came with the light and get at battery and connect one wire to each terminal of the battery. If the twin lights are joined together somewhere other than at the connector, there should be only three wires (high, low & ground). If not, just make sure you seperate the lights when you are testing, and you really can't hurt anything. Just connect the high beam wire(s) to the white wire on your buell, the low(s) to the yellow one, and ground(s) to the black. Unless you want only one to be on at a time(1 high/1 low), or if only two wires come out of each lamp, this should work for you. Good luck! What is the wattage on each lamp? --Nik (Message edited by halfaharley on September 24, 2004) |

55watts. There are actually two connectors coming out of the light. One with a white, yellow, and black wires and the second has a yellow and white. Do you think the second is the high beam? Or just worry about the first connector w/ the three wires? |

It sounds like the three wire one is both high and low, and the the second one is just a high, or it could be just a low. You're going to have to use all the wires to make everything work, so test them all and see what they look like. I just now noticed what they look like in the picture. Buy the looks of it, the plug is just coming out of one side, correct? |

Nah, they all come out of the back. |

Yeah, if the picture isn't decieving me, they should both be high and low on at the same time. You can connect both yellow wires to the yellow wire on your bike and white ones to the white. And the black is the ground and that must ground the assembly unit, which is why there is only one. --Nik |

And make sure you solder it well and use shrink tubing. You don't want to get stuck two years from now with a dead headlight. |

I meant both lights are on at the same time, either hi, or low. I wrote that kind of strangely. |

My guess is he's using crimp connectors? (nothing wrong with that). |

Hey, that plug on the dominator...that looks like the H4 bulb ...i bet it plugs directly into the old headlight socket...have you tried that? |

The headlight socket on the Buell will not connect to the headlight male connector. I just went outside and stripped the wires and started testing and they work fine. I'm gonna install it tonight. |

I found that the connector for the Brymar lights connected to the stock headlamp connector without modification and worked fine. Only the 2 wires for the 'parking lights' needed to be wired in if desired. ps EZ maybe we can move this over to the twin headlight thread and merge the 2 together? |

I see the headlight conversion that BlasterS did and if I follow correctly those are the dominator duel Headlights? Has anyone done the XB/S duel lights on a blast. if so approx cost and list parts needed. It looks great.

I also did the Brymar Dominators (with a different look).I've have been trying to get ahold of an XB parts catalogue for some time now and did the Brymars on the assumption that the XB set up is gonna be way more expensive. Let me know if you get the parts numbers. |

I just bought my first Buell, and immediately wanted to swap out the single light for duals. The job that BlasterS did looks great. My only question is, did you need any special mounting bracket for the dual lights or did it come with one that fit your Blast? |

Welcome Bones! You can either buy universal headlight mount brackets or use the stock brackets with an extra piece of flat bar attached to hold the headlight assembly. A word of caution since the dual headlights are wider than the forks, a slight bend may be necessary at the end of the mounting brackets to prevent them from being tweaked. The headlights are also made from sheet metal and dont take kindly to a lot of twisting or bending. Mine are slightly rubber mounted so I dont have to crank down the mounting bolts to hold them in place. Mine have also cracked at the middle joint section (a bolt holds the 2 lights together)but I do not know if its from vibration, being taken on and off too many times, tweaking on installation or (ironically) from the rubber mount (which I doubt) or ? even offroading! You can install the XB dual headlights, but it will take a little more work to have both headlights on at the same time and you'll probably have to fab you own mounting bracket. |

Thanks Gearheaderiko, the head lights will probably be my project for the colder months. Of course there is also a new exhaust and different handlebars in store for my Blast too. BUt first things first.. I just want to ride the heck out of it before it gets too cold..... |
