Nope! and nope! Don't bent the belt backwards. There is no recall, should there be? Why of course. You have to remember why the Blast was made. It wa a compromise and a first step to the XB platform. H-D(spit) bureucracticly compromised the the Blast to wrangle the success of Buell. There is no reason for the Blast belt no to go 100,000 miles. In stock form you are running 30 HP, Little weight, no tensioner, and little or no tension. |

From the Woz. June ASBN I just got back from a week in Washington D.C. for the National Police Memorial ceremonies, and within a few hours of returning from that, I attended a convention in NorCal for the NSGW as a delegate so I only returned home last night from effectively two weeks away. I just got off the phone with Steve Storz, of Storz Performance in Ventura, California http://www.StorzPerf.com and we spoke for a while and he's on track to be our guest speaker and answer any and all questions (motorcycle related of course) during the American Sport Bike Night event on Monday, June 7th, 2010. Please tell all your motorcycle friends and interested persons that this ASBN will be really special, let's fill that room! So, plan now, it's only a week or two away and it promises to be a great show. Steve is driving up to NorCal from Ventura on Monday with one of his custom XR1200 motorcycles to display and talk about, so this is the time. Fred Fortune has promised that the "Psyclone" will also be a part of the evenings cool things to see, so it will be a great night. Monday, June 7th, 2010. The meeting starts at 6PM, and of course we'll be there early in the parking lot bench racing beforehand. Woz... Michael J. Wozniak Co-Founder ASBN ASBN Hotline 510-483-8858 |

i was plenty dirty. i wiped out and used the air hose to blow out the cases. my wife should have taken a picture of me, I was covered in oil with metal shavings. I need to find case gasket maker and get brake cleaner to flush some of the bearings out. |

there wouldnt happen to be any recalls for the belt drive on an 05 blast would there? today the belt snapped while riding like grandma in 1st gear for no apparent reason... at 5.5k miles just wondering because there are 3 blasts in the family, and this is the newest with the lowest miles, and it snapped while riding easy (like it always does) mine however has the most miles and is the oldest with 10.5k miles and gets WOT everywhere it goes, and i beat on the gears when up shifting and especially while downshifting (no clutch used) and i just took mine off today to put on the 05 to get it home and after inspection, its in great shape still. slight cracking if you bend it the wrong way but looks like it will go a few thousand more miles |

The4ork, I ride an 05 with nearly 14.5k miles and have had zero belt issues. i also ride mine hard on most occasions. Could it be that you possible got a rare bad belt out of the box? John |

I managed to get the screws loose on the carb from the parts bike and found out that the guy jeted the bike down to 42/165, drilled the slid, installed an after market adjustable needle. I need to take the top off of my carb and see if the spring is different. So the smart guy that blow up the motor in the parts bike installed a 515 kit, V&H, and when down in jet size. |

Almost.......sounds good in theory, maybe he didnt pay close enough attention. It might have also have been perfect, but given the rash of 515 failures, it might have just blown up anyway |

G1vemtheboot, There are lots of options, but not all the same quality. Be very careful of the inexpensive headlight kits as they are not DOT approved and really are very inadequate(DAMHIK) In the Knowledge Vault there are endless discussion and threads on headlight options. Welcome to the Thumper Forum, enjoy! |

Newbie needs help! I have done most carb mods as mentioned here on this site and eliminated the air box and went with the velocity stack and super boot. When I hit high rpm's the bike sputters, pops and back fires real bad today it even stalled out. Does anyone have any ideas what it might be?????? |

I doubt it. If its the Nikasil, it might be cleaned up with honing. If its the iron sleeve, then very doubtful. Either can be re sleeved though. |

Welcome G1vemtheboot! Concur with Swampy. The XBS (non-R) set up was reasonably cheap $65, but you'll need to make brackets and they aren't very pretty when mounted alone. Any light that says it takes an H4 bulb is going to be good. I dont remember the other good bulb sizes but check out the headlight threads: http://www.badweatherbikers.com/buell/messages/201 64/6832.html?1274395468 |

Take the filter off and run the stack unfiltered and see if the problem goes away. Thats almost always the cause-wrong or too restrictive screen/filter installed. The next step would be too make sure your knee isnt covering the opening. |

I used the screen type filter cover that I ordered from outfitters.com with a 3 1/2 hose clamp that was recommended on one of the forums here and backed the air/fuel mixer screw out 2 1/2 turns. I changed the slow jet to a 48 and the main to a 175 and shimmed it with 2 #4 washers. Is it possible the bike is running too rich? I do feel that I'm getting gas sputtering out the carb sometimes? |

Pull the 'filter' off. You wouldnt be the first to order or get sent the wrong filter. Until you do that, you cant be sure of what is really going on. Personally, I think a 48 is too rich, but that wont affect the high rpms. 175 and 2 shims should be good. |

I think I need to start my own thread about the bike. I guess in the 515 forum. There are parts of the piston melted to the cylinder, head, and valves. |

Since I have everything apart, is there any pictures for repair write ups needed? I don't have the time to write them myself, but I have a camera, one engine apart and a second that will be taken apart. |

to the guy who had a "down in jet size" i recently installed the stage1 dynojet kit in my dads blast after putting a jardine on it. the instructions specifically say to run a 165 with an aftermarket exhaust along with shimming the needle, installing the immulsion tube, spring, drlling, etc. it seems to run strong. need to pull the plug and see whats what |

I believe DynoJet uses a different numbering system. |

I run a Jardine RT1 exhaust/muffler (w/QMI). Jetting for my carb is 45/175. I got the jets from HD. Chris C |

They're instructions are wrong - see the twin dyno jet instructions - and use their ratio for figuring jet sizes - their test exhaust and intake - sucked - as a combo worse than stock (Kerker & K&N). BC10 is good, but if intake filter is right, 48 would be ok. EZ (Message edited by ezblast on May 27, 2010) |
