So I was on my way to the Harley shop yesterday for more goodies, went into a store and when I came back out my problems began. When I went to start the bike I at first got nothing at all, then a click or two. I thought at first it was a battery/ground problem but when I pulled the seat and pulled my power & ground cables, checked for corrosion or loose connections, reattached the cables turned on key and started getting a buzz from what I believe is the light relay (have no wiring diagram or manual at the moment...and a terribly old and outdated computer) located to the left and slightly forward from the battery. I found that pulling the fuse for the light system would stop this buzz so I began tracing light wires for weak spots and feeling for any hot spots. I didn't find any but then it just stopped, my speedo needle jumped, odometer lit up and it started up. I began putting the bike back together (Had it stripped to pieces in the parking lot) and just as I got it all together it died. It started making a louder buzz...this time more than one relay (not positive about what they are two but the ones located to the right of the battery if you are at the back of the bike-sorry I'm a noob, been on dirtbikes my whole life with as little electrical as possible). The headlight would slowly come on and build up to full light then dim, the speedo needle would bottom out, jump and then the odometer would finally come on and I would be able to get it to turnover but not start. The buzzing in the relays started pulsing and then would stop, everything would come on at full power like normal but would not even attempt to turn over. Getting EXTREMELY FRUSTRATED, I decided to try a pushstart hoping I could at least get it to a friends garage. Got it to fire for a couple seconds then die. After this attempt, the system seems to come on as normal giving me full power but now the starter almost sounds like it's not engaging fully (not sure how else to explain the sound...sounds similar to when starter started going out of my grand am).

I had planned to have the bike apart this weekend to paint, new bars, re-jet, new plug, new tires, stock intake and exhaust mods but plans have obviously changed...none of this is relevant for a bike that won't start. Anyone who can tell me where to start and any type of wiring diagrams or picts with parts listed would be greatly appreciated...a service manual is on the list but a running bike and possible repair costs come first. This is my only mode of transportation as my car was recently totaled and I'm battling insurance to get a new one and need to commute 10 miles to and from work. Thanks guys, couldn't find any posts with problems that even sound similar.

Check front ground? Could well be battery as well.
