My V&H died a horrible death. It's my fault probably, I didn't notice the end-cap rivets vibrating through the metal of the can and out along with all the burnt packing. The baffle (?) was shattered inside the can. It's been a bad day. But I'm moving to cali in a couple months and heard the V&H wouldn't pass inspections or whatever they have there - KS doesn't seem to care how loud it gets : ) So I need a new exhaust system. I'll take what I can get but stock is preferred. Harley Topeka says I'm looking at $325-350. If anyone with knowledge about buying / installing exhausts has anything to enlighten a 3rd year blasterider to, I'd love to hear it! - I'll be strolling through the archives in the Thumper forum too. Thanks TJ |

I want your old V & H. I might be willing to trade my stock exhaust for it! California doesnt have any inspection. Its the same as everywhere else: If 'they' think you're too loud, they will pull you over-doesnt matter what state you're in. You can replace the V & H can with a Harley shorty muffler. It must be an HD or an HD aftermarket replacement muffler. The crappy Emgo universal mufflers will choke the life out of your engine. The HD shorty muffler can be installed using a 3" muffler clamp and your old V & H brackets. You can usually find used HD mufflers cheap and they'll quiet it down some. You can also use a D & D, Supertrapp, Kerker, "glasspack", White Brothers or etc? Never been pulled over on the Blast for being too loud, but I cant say I've never been pulled over for having loud pipes (several states) |

Gearheaderiko, I'll know in a few days whether a trade is possible. I'm weighing different options at the moment. I'm gonna ask some questions in the quick board section. I'm going to try and get some pics up tomorrow too so you know what you're getting yourself into!! |

I really think you should make do with what you've got. A stock HD muffler will be quieter and an aftermarket will be about as loud as the V & H. I really only want the headpipe and the bracket that holds the rear of the muffler. But I'm only interested if thats the route you choose (too many times the headpipe gets tossed with the rest of the exhaust). |
