Some time ago, I drilled out a 10mm gear shift shaft. Had I known about EZ-Out or backward threaded drills or other options, I would have saved some time. I was using a rechargeable drill, and went through about 5 use/recharge cycles. Took all day!!! Anyway, I tried it here, but it kept going crooked. I had originally drilled a hole for the EZ-Out method, but it was dark, and I didn't have an ideal setup. It was off to the side, almost against the threads. The drill bit kept moving to that hole, which tore up the threads quite a bit. I went ahead and put a bigger bit in, hoping to go straight. The laws of physics are against me. On the other hand, God watches out for idiots, fools, small children, and ships named Enterprise, or something like that. Perhaps my pulley, which is original with 35K miles, should be replaced, but I'm stubborn. Since I messed up the left side of the wheel by riding for an unknown number of miles on a completely failed bearing, a new wheel isn't a bad idea. Based on all this, and how it's time to park the Blast for the winter and work on the software to my ignition module, (Will I ever get it done?!) I'll be getting a new rear wheel. So, I didn't quite destroy it, but if I keep going the way I went so far, the bolt hole will be quite crooked. I'll get in touch with that guy who gave up on his Blast ... |

I bought a set of AM63's in oversize...so I figured while I have the wheels off...and since there is a bit of corrosion stuff that won't wash off...I took the wheels to the powder coat shop today for a bit of permanent shine The new color is going to be....drumroll please...very very close to the Buell Cherrybomb red!!!! AKA Cherry Red Metallic. Now that will be KICKIN'!!! |

Got my wheels back from the shop today..they are bright and shiny All I am waiting on now are the new rotor and sprocket bolts from the Buell shop...(those are single use bolts and must be replaced, right?)...but i figure i can mount everything up with the old bolts so i can have the tires mounted and balanced and put them back on the bike...and change the bolts when they come in...looks like i'll be rollin' Saturday! (pics later) wow the wheels are red! A guy at my shop asked if the paint was still wet...lol |

Ok some update...sorry no pics yet, but they will get done when I get my camera back from loan Anyways...after way too long being sick (along with the flu, ear infection that really killed my sense of balance) I rode my beastie a bit yesterday...the new AM63's in oversize do real nice...it responds much better to input and steers lighter...even rides smoother...My balance is still not to the point where I want to try to push it much in the corners...more reports as available...it should be fit weather to ride down here this weekend if it holds up....later. |

Hey Harry, I put the AM63's on my Bast last August. I love, love, love them. I've about 2500 miles on them and the front looks new. The back looks almost new. I'll be surprised if I get less than 5,000 miles. Now I don't drive like you do but when I do get brave and lean over a bit, it's like being on a rail. Very solid grip. Between the Blast and the 63's I feel like I could scrape my shoulders if I wanted to. A guy like you will really put them to the test. Go for it, but I don't think I'm brave enough to watch...lol PS. Glad to hear you're doing better. |

Quick tire report...yesterday I played tourist dodgem for about 125 miles...with the 63's warmed up I found that YES indeed the bike reacts in a very positive manner to inputs...the steering is much quicker and precise. There is almost none of the unsettled feeling that I have been plagued with on paint stripes and bumps...the bike goes precisely where you point it now without feeling like you are 'rasslin a gator. Another unexpected benefit is that the front brake works better, with more feel and stopping power...I think the slightly lower profile and the resulting smaller circumference of the tire is the reason...perhaps the fact that the new tires are bias ply instead of radial has something to do with it...in any case the effect is beneficial. I would judge at least in my own case as it applies to my particular riding style...the AM63's are an outstanding value for the performance they give....of course this is from a guy that would run slicks if it was possible on the street (that would be ok...I hate getting wet, never ride in the rain unless there is no way around it...LOL). |

Just something I threw together with a welder and basic fab tools... nothing fancy for sure...the whole idea was to make the bike a lot more servicable than stock...there are pics, etc in the rearsets thread. They have worked well so far...one day I will "finish" them properly to get rid of the rough edges and make them more visually appealing. But right now that would eat into my riding time |

I was perfectly content getting my wheels powder coated black........until Fast1 had to post pics showing off his shiny new wheels. Thanks a lot, now I actually have to make a decision. And thinking hurts! Those look sick bro!!! |

Somewhere between the sample chips and the completed project, the wheels turned out quite a bit brighter than I expected...the color was supposed to be a pearl color to mimic anodize...but the flakes are large enuff that it is metallic instead...the effect is fine...I intended it to be attention grabbing while in traffic...I was originally going to have them done in semi-gloss black...and that would look kickin' but it would make the bike even more stealthy...not good in heavy traffic.. |

Those wheels look great, what's an average charge for powder coating wheels? The rear sets look good, want to start that project soon -- what kind of shifter & linkage is that? |

The powdercoat cost $200.00 at a local shop...the shifter set is straight off a XB-9...i found it on E-bay...you have to drill and tap the boss on the primary cover for the pivot bolt...very easy to do..just watch out to not drill too deep. |

My local motorcycle instructor suggested i adjust my rear brake pedal so its a bit lower based on my riding style. i loosened the large nut and then turned the top nut so i lowered it about 1/2 and then tighten stuff up. I tested it out and all seems fine but im worried that perhaps i have reduced the play that the brakes may kick in quicker or i may lock them up? Would this adjustment simply lower the pedal a bit like i wanted or will it effect the braking? thanks, Ira |

Won't effect the brake operation at all. I did the same to mine because my foot was resting on the brake pedal if I relaxed it. I dropped it down to where I have a small gap between my foot and the pedal when sitting comfortably on the bike. If you hadn't adjusted it you would have had problems with premature brake wear and heated brakes that may not do the job when you really needed them. Don't worry about the adjustment. Your good. |

Great! Im always worried my home improvement projects will go amuck. The other thing i have to do is to change out the front brake lever for an adjustable one. I found a pair of xb buell levers on ebay for a good price and im told these will fit. I guess i never thought how the new bike would need to be setup for me thanks for the encouraging words. Ira |

Something to keep in mind with the rear brake on the Blast: It only provides about 25% of the stopping force at the most. I've found that if I press much harder than just the weight of my foot on it, I can lock it up. Practice at low speeds, i.e., 20 MPH and lower, to get the feel of your rear brake. |

Im not too sure where to post this, it will probably be posted again. Whenever i lean my blast while riding, the bike is very shaky, when i lean it upright, it is smooth. My tires are relatively new. Does anyone have any idea whats going on? |

Help!!! I just got new Pirelli MT75's mounted on my girlfriend's blast and after struggling to get them back on I noticed that they're mounted backwards (counter rotation) Most likely the shop assumed it was left hand drive, like most bikes, since I just took them the rims. I guess I should have specified the tires' orientation but I just assumed they'd look at the tires that were already on the rims.... then again they may have been mounted backwards too. I never really checked. Is it ok to run these like this or should I take them back and have them re-mounted? Most likely I'll get them re-mounted but I'd rather not go through all the trouble if it's ok. It's my girl's bike and I don't want her riding on anything unsafe. |

I cant seem to find this info out...What is the size of the front and rear wheel nut? I looked through my serv. manual and cant find it...I would just go buy a whole metric socket set but don't have the cash to blow on a whole set yet :P |

You can take a caliper and find out the size. |
