hey on that yellow bike, what muffler is that? im looking into doing a custom exhaust made myself, but muffler in the stock location, but im having difficulty finding the right muffler. im looking for something as small as possible, not too worried about sound but i'd like it to at least be somewhere between the V&H and open header at the loudest (because i know what both of those sound like, V&H is semi-quiet imo, and open header is just flat out too loud) |

Sheesh, EZ. You're riding me like dime store pony!!! Thats a White Brothers. Discontinued because of reliability issues. V & H (now owns WB I believe) or most of the exhaust manufacturers will sell you just a muffler (but you may have to sweet talk them a little). I like the D & D muffler for its relative small size (ground clearance). Appx. $200. You can throw a stock or aftermarket shorty Harley muffler on for cheap too and it also gives decent ground clearance. |

I think a there should be a requirement that you have to know hot to drive a stick before you can ride a bike. There are a lot of people that don't understand the clutch concept. |

LOL - subtlety - lol - not my strong point when impatient - sorry - still - I was so curious about which ones worked, 170 is a lot easier to choke down than 300 for an aftermarket ignition, throwing in coil, and going to Voes type - or not - that is a really solid piece of info to know for the performance Blastards out there - again - thank you! Different head springs, guides and seals - and you would be cooking then - I could live with 7500, though I've had mine at 8000 for a while and the top end handled it fine. Of course the reason my top end on the CR sounds so familiar is because it is running Ti valves and SS-alloy seats as well - really top of the line stuff - has to handle 12.0 compression though, compared with the Blasts 10.5 aftermarket. This means I'm feeling pretty confident about the Ratio rockers not over-stressing the head hardware - upping the anti enough to make things interesting, and buying one set will do two bikes so the cafe will get a set to go with the B50 as well - which would make a really smooth power ramp at the SE lift area - still going to replace both oil pump gears though. Most of you probably already read this, but I hate the Motor Company now more than ever before... http://thekneeslider.com/archives/2009/11/14/what- was-buell-working-on-when-the-end-came/comment-pag e-2/ |

You can hate HD if you want, but there is no point in that. Erik forgot who he was working for. If Buell could've stood on their own, they would have; -but they didn't. They were married to Harley and they decided to send HD money overseas to develop bikes for a racing program that 95% of motorcycle owners don't care about. They were eliminating their longest running model, (the Blast) as you'll recall, 'cause it just wasn't racy enough. Their most recent ad campaigns basically told motorcyclists, 'if you ain't racing, you ain't s#!T' cause "Sitting is not a sport." If I was a Harley exec, I'd be thinking, "Hmm, times are tough, and we're eliminating our entry-point bike to replace it with ??? -and insulting our past customers in the process...?" "Racing is a top priority ?" "We're The Motor Company but we're sending cash to Rotax to develop motors??!" "This all seems unwise." I've already covered my feelings on this in a previous post. I don't fault Harley for bringing this to a stop. Erik Buell can go back to designing engine isolators (although HD may not tolerate the failure rates that we've experienced on the Buell-badged bikes) or performance upgrade packages for Sportsters. He's got his parachute. No point in hating The Motor Company, they needed to stop the pain. _____________________ Firing order: 1 |

Screw that - HD is run by a bunch of gomers worried about their retirement, and they will sacrifice even the mother company - which they have - to protect it. HD is going to wind up a boutique seller of antiquadated bikes that only a few fags will want anything to do with - the rest of the world will have passed them by as odd ball manufactures of old/new bikes. Quaint but overpriced replicas of their originals. They have nothing new and have killed off what new they had - sacrificed to preserve a pension for the board members - who do not care about HD's future, only theirs. Put a fork in them - they are done! Face it - you can buy used at 5 to 8 grand or new at 25 grand - they look totally the same - only the hardcore fag will go for new. HD has officially made themselves history. EZ |

I'm looking at Harley-Davidson like the GM debacle. Not only this one but the one waaay back in the 70's. Build the same old thing, bold new graphics, same old car, failing to wake from their slumber to face the enevitable future at the time, gas shortages, pollution standards and poor quality, while the imports ate their lunch with bold new technology, all the while the Big 3, kept ignoring the facts and carrying on like it was the 50's. Basicly it was one of historys greatest wasted opportunities, as the dinasaur lumbered deeper into the mire. Now on the other hand, Buell has a 200 year plan, and in the future this maybe be looked back on as a minor break in the grand scheme for Buell. And as pointed out in the other threads this was not a business decision that Harley Davidson made but a personal one carried out by a few people that Erik Buell rubbed the wrong way. What company in it's right mind would kill a division for being the only motorcycle company in THE WORLD that showed double digit growth while every other motorcycle company was stagnant? They should have modeled other divisions and celebrated the accomplishment. It only goes to show you that the world is a very crazy place, so strike early, strike often, make them bleed, go for the balls! When you leave the party make them think "Crazy Mofo!" I'm going to pass on this little bit of inspiration that the drunk guy playing pool at the Green Frog in Sault Ste. Marie told me "What are you scared of? they're only girls" Don't waste the opportunities.... |

Happy Thanksgiving all. I saw all of the original British manufacturers go under in the '70's. If Erik wants to build bikes he will. I'm glad I have a Blast in my garage. I don't think I could ever afford a new XB or CR. However, I just picked up a '99 X1. It's gonna take some time, effort and $$$ to get her running right but I am glad I have it. Without the Blast I would never have considered the X1. I am grateful to own two American made non-cruiser bikes. Later, Chris C |

Gearhead: I thought that "$5-8 grand..." was a slight exaggeration myself. However, it really seems like people are just trying to unload their bikes (and other vehicles) right now. It might be different in California but in the northern states where you can only ride 7 months out of the year it seems you can get great deals, especially on HD's. In July I bought a 1994 Ford F-250 5.8L V8 with 76,000 miles on it for $1,000. The truck runs great and looks good. It's definately a buyers market. And I am thankful I have an american sport bike... errrr ottoman. Happy Thanksgiving |

Yes, people are unloading anything they can part with and get money for to pay the bills. There are good deals on everything right now. $5k-$8k has more to do with the current economy than anything else. |

Yes - now that would be a slight exaggeration, but in 5 years that will be a sorry everyday dirt truth - because the baby-boomers are not getting any younger, and will soon be dumping their iron as well - face it - very few guys are cruising past 65 years of age - most are selling their iron and getting nice safe 4 wheeled vehicles - and in that short span of years that's exactly what will start happening - that's why I tell folks that the 1125CR is more bike than I'll ever need for the rest of my life - and because of that - if properly maintained - should take me through the rest of my riding days, if I have to get a geezer cruiser, it sure in the hell will not be a HD, a Victory perhaps, or perhaps by then Buell will have a full line once again and have a Sport-Cruiser for the old folk - lol EZ |

What gains has anyone seen by changing the slow jet? Why'd you do it? Which one is used? I'm wondering if it affects the idle at all. My bike seems to want to die out after idling for a couple of minutes and frequently tries to stall out at long stoplights, unless I give the throttle a blip. (No, the boot was replaced this past summer) ____________________ Firing order: 1 |

Anybody know where I can get some Buell traction grips? I ordered some from American Sport Bike but they're back ordered and may not come in at all. Other good sources? And don't say the harley dealer. They can't have my money anymore. |

Make sure the boot hasn't loosened - Auto enrichner, or tps are my suspect - if your warm idle is at 1200 to 1000 - no lower. EZ (Message edited by ezblast on December 01, 2009) |

I had the dealer switch the low idle jet out last month to a 45(stock was 42). Before the jet was switched it would not idle after the idle went down during warm up. It would stall at lights and backfired a lot. Now, with the new jet, it has not stalled. It has helped in cold weather too. I have noticed the idle does seem higher. |

Thanks Gehoff, that's the info I was hoping to get. The car was in the shop the week before last and I had to pull the bike from it's winter resting place. Morning temps were in the low to mid 20's so knowing that the bigger jet improves cold weather manners helps. The idling issues were present in warmer weather, but more apparent recently. I'm having difficulty finding the right Christmas present for my dad. Should I check the boot?? ______________________ Firing order: 1 |

gehoff, did the shop drill out the idle mixture mixture plug and adjust that as well? The idle speed should not have changed when the shop increased the slow jet size. Now when the air is cold, bike is still cold and the enricher turned off , my bike has trouble idling with the 42 slow jet, but after i drive 1/4 of a mile and warm the oil up it doesn't have idle issues. Also, switching to thinner oil in the winter makes a BIG difference. (Message edited by crackhead on December 02, 2009) |

No, the shop did not drill out the idle mixture plug and adjust. I am thinking the shop adjusted the idle when they were doing the 1000 mile service. AWF -you are brave riding in that cold of weather. I will ride the bicycle to work when it is 20 degrees, but the Blast, I only take out if it is 40 degrees or above. |

Gehoff, "Brave" has not been the word used the most. If there's a chance of anything being slippery, I won't do it. Thanks again for the info. What other things were noted with the increase in slow jet size? Mileage? Starting? Acceleration differences? Smoothness? Spark plug soiling? _______________________ Firing order: 1 |
