For everyone out there who has repainted their Blast what was the best paint that you found that will flex with the plastic? Bear in mind that my commute sees temps ranging from near 100 down to the low 30s (with a 50 mph self-induced wind chill) so the plastic will flex - the tail rattles in the cold as it shrinks up and hit those damn bumps on Broadway. So, what's your best paints? | ||

I use Krylon Fusion for plastic. It seems to have held up on the very flexible race fairing we use. I do hate to see you ruin perfect bodywork by painting when there is so much scratched stuff around. You might want to try and trade for a different colour first (of course I dont know what your plans are and if thats possible) | ||

Thanks for the info! The color I want wasn't put on a Blast originally - I'm partial to the red and white stripe edition of the tube bikes and found a company that does the stripes in any color (http://www.alloutgraphics.com/products/buell/buell decals.html). I was planning on locating and procuring an extra set of plastics for the painting rather than using the ones I have (which apparently aren't original anyway according to the vehicle title). | ||

I have also used Krylon with success. It can scratch off. But, I believe I saw someone using a fabric dye on buell plastic parts. I can't recall whether it was this board or another. | ||

I painted my yellow tank cover black with Krylon fusion paint, I didn't like it. It didn't look black to me. more dark grey. I ended up getting a new set of black plastics off Ebay for next to nothing. I think it has something to do with the clear coat on our plastics that makes it look funny when painted. | ||

Yeah there is. If you scratch your plastics deep enough you can see it. | ||

Dude. Its Surlyn. It has the pigments in the plastic. If you scratch it deep enough, the thin layers of plastic that come up may or may not contain any pigment. There is nothing applied to the plastics other than cleaner from the factory. | ||

OK that makes sense, I was looking at a scratched up tank cover that I have and it looked like a clear surface layer. I didn't know it was layers of colored plastic, I thought it was one solid piece that was impregnated with color. My bad. | ||

I painted ashley's bike white (Was yellow) using a three stage process. I scuffed up the surface with a scurry pad and painted the plastics with Adhesion Promoter. Then I applied multiple layers of Krylon Fusion. Next to go on is Clear Enamel, hopefully this will help with wear and scratches. It worked quite well on the flyscreen but I haven't clear coated the body yet. We were in a rush to get to Buelltoberfest and my poor painting skills resulted in a few runns that need to be sanded out first. |
