Anyone have the part number for the new PCV grommet? I searched but couldn't come up with it, also if I replace the grommet should I change the valve as well?(did they change that too?) |

Thr rattle is most likely the anti-tip-over fuel valve. It's the thing with the hose attached to the top of the tank by the gas cap. It's supposed to rattle, there's a marble in there that closes the vent when you crash. |

Do you think that marble could be the rattle noise that has been driving me crazy since I got the bike! By the way, I got the part numbers: 17607-00Y & 17606-00YA Can anyone confirm if these are the new parts? Update: I found the parts by the numbers listed above on CHICAGOHARLEY.com according to them they were added to their inventory in 2007 (Message edited by garlic_sauce on September 14, 2009) |

Garlic_sauce, it is not a PVC Valve, it is only an elbow with a baffle to separate the oil from the vapor, sort of like a filter. The grommet is the same as to other XB engines. I have replaced a couple in the last couple of years, they were cheap, I think less than $2.00 |

OK thanks Swampy, I have only ever heard them called PCV valves. I guess you would call it a crank case breather? Anyway I ordered the new set up with the incorporated O-ring so hopefully It functions better than the 2001 grommet. |

The PCV is unchanged since 2000 and is called a PCV (per at least the parts manual) and thats what it is. Except on start up, its always positive flow. The grommet was updated somewhere between 2003-2005. 2009 Blast parts manual lists the addition of an umbrella check valve (pt# 26856-89A) and I haven't seen one so I dont know how it would be installed and the 2009 Lightning parts manual doesnt list it. Of course the parts manual could be wrong and does anybody know if they updated the 2009 service manual? While I rarely disagree with Swampy, I'd say its more of a disagreement of semantics. It is important to know what its called in the parts manual though. PS concur on the rollover valve tank rattle. Is it the rattle you always hear? I dont think so. You can remove it if desired, just try not to drop it in the tank if you do |

Hey guys I have a Vapor Unit and Dash up for Sale...the unit is $125 and the Dash is $40...I'm asking $80 shipped! I have everything to go with the unit execpt the magnet that goes on the rotor to detect speed...but it should be a $5 from www.trailtech.com Also if you go to that website it will show you everything you need to know. It also has the sparkplug ring to show engine temp! Email me at imadreadead@gmail.com And I can send pics...I also have some listed here in the phot section a few months back. I literally had it on for about 10 miles before I sold the bike...and it works great! Tach works..speed works Amazing (Message edited by imadreadhead on September 16, 2009) |

Second on GHEriko. The unit is a PCV. I've cracked mine open (the old one, after replacement) and there is a flow check inside which only allows one-way passage of crankcase air. |

OK guys, you're pretty smart. I've been reading the other forums for Uly, XB and 1125r and it seems like everyone has EFI issues and resets and ECU issues that create bizarre fuelling conditions and surges and stuff. I've never owned an EFI bike, having a carbed Cb350, XL1200, GL1100A and P3. My dad's C-50T zuki is carbed and no issues. Same with my bro's yammie V-Star 650. Are there more issues with EFI? Is it just harder to sort out? Are people just picky and perhaps the burps and coughs my Blast occassionally belches are no big deal for me but would be major issues for someone? It seems like EFI is just a pain in the asterisk. |

I have an older XB12R and have had no issues with my EFI. Although I do get the burp through the EFI ever once in a while, it doesn't bother me but it may be a major issue with someone else. |

it has a 515 kit in it and the owner had the bike running for 5 hrs and then it stopped. he says it wounds like low compression. i am trying to pic it up tonight and check the bike out next weekend. |

I'm never getting the 515 kit. It sounds like nothing but trouble. Crackhead: What year is it? Did you get a good deal? There seem to be a lot of good deals on used bikes right now. |

Yes, the 515 kit....really makes me wonder about the "bolts right on" capability and reliability of the 600 kit. I certainly wouldnt recommend the 515 and you're not really gaining much displacement and the benefit is more from the high compression piston (which in stock overbores doesnt seem to be a problem). |

As far as EFI-truly a superior system to a carb and you'd think after 40+years of using fuel injection they'd be foolproof. I think part of the problem may be, as with carbs, is getting them to be EPA and fuel efficient (but thats my opinion). I will say that when I had the choice between EFI and a carb, I went with the carb. I tend to keep things a long time (longer than the dealer stocks parts) and I know I'll always be able to find quickly a replacement carb or parts and it'll be a quick fix. If the EFI leaves me stranded, it may be a hassle getting it diagnosed and fixed. But it does come from my attitude about wanting to be able to ride to the middle of nowhere and if I break down there'll be a minimum of problems getting back on the road. Simplicity is why I like air cooled motorcycles! |

Bingo. It is a delicate balancing act, and it gets trickier as requirements tighten up, but then new technologies emerge to help get around it like Direct Injection, HCCI, Turbos, and so on. |

Related question, on carbed motorcycles, specifically the Cube, when you hit the kill switch, what does it disable? Gas flow? Spark? |
