I remember mentioned somewhere in the KV that there is an ignition module that is better for a 2001. I bought a new one the day I bought this bike and when I got it was told it was the "upgraded one" by the HD dealer. It was (by the look of the #)a different part #, but I did ask for one for a 2001. Since the bike hasn't change a whole lot over the years, will an newer "model" ign mod work? If dumpin the fuel I have in the tank right now this weekend doesn't remedy the "choking" in 4th and 5th gear that happened on a ride this weekend, I'm fearing the new ig mod is bad. It seem to be gone when I returned from destination after bike had time to cool. That's what makes me think it is the ign mod. Rode it to work this morning and no problems except the little bit of backfire at de-excelleration. I'm done babbling, had a long day at work. Thanks for being here to listen! |

Oh, I did forget to mention that I had put octane boost in with the 91 that I will only put in. I put it in every other tank full so as not to burn valves. Does that make sense to you guys? The stuff I used was called 108 octane. It said that 16oz would do for 16 gallon, so I use a shot glass and give the little piglet a shot now and then. Am I wrong? |

Concur! Ignition is the most likely culprit. Do you have the old ignition you took out? Octane booster shouldnt be necessary and it usually wont hurt, but it does make it more difficult to burn fuel. The Blast was also designed for unleaded fuel so it shouldnt need it for that. May it be possible that the octane booster is settling at the bottom of the tank? How old is the spark plug? |

Maybe a dumb suggestion, but I had a similar problem and it was the IGNITION FUSE! Frustrating, but its a $1 fix. |

There are no dumb suggestions. If it happened to you, it could happen to anybody! |
