"YAWN" Concur! Obviously some people still dont get it (well, mostly non Blast owners dont). Few, I'm sure, have read the several hundred posts on this topic just at this forum alone. I have been told, (by someone very Buell connected), that the only way they (Buell dealer) can get Blasts to sell is by ordering them as RE bikes and 'decommissioning' them. Even I know how to spell my own name (even when I couldnt spell anything else)! hmmm?! Lastly, EB does read this site, recently, and I doubt that he's missed at least the volume of the several hundred posts on the 'cubing'. |

Prof_stack: Congratulations, that is a beautiful motorcycle. I don't mean this in a negative way, I am just curious. How can you be in the market for a Blast and end up with a Moto-Guzzi cruiser? That is like someone saying they were looking to get a Ninja but ended up buying a Triumph Bonneville instead. I don't see how the two bikes could be similar at all. Anyways, I hope you have fun. Moto-Guzzi makes nice bikes No negative context noted! I wasn't so much in the market for a Blast (I had an '00 Blast from day one) but for a single cylinder machine which I hoped would be a newer version of the P3. Another bike I was interested in, the new Royal Enfield, had immediate recalls on the transmissions and now they have some main bearing issues. I even toyed with the idea of the new Suzuki TU-250x, but after a test ride decided to not pursue it. For my type of riding it is too small in displacement. But it is a nice ride. Moto Guzzi doesn't sell a lot of motorcycles in the USA, but their #1 dealer, Moto International, here in Seattle is only 4 miles from home. The owner Dave Richardson (author of "Guzziology") is as nice a person as you'll ever meet and the service crew is awesome. So when the '05 showed up on Craigslist I followed up and eventually (yesterday) bought it. I'll stick with the Nevada until something better and smaller comes along. There, I hope that's all clear. The Guzzi is a great bike but I hope something more appealing from Buell or HD finds its way to the market. Time to ride, bye! |

Why would you sell an '07, just to buy the same model in an '05 I have a friend who does that with Nighthawks just to move on to a lower mileage bike. |

Why would you sell an '07, just to buy the same model in an '05? Great question. After 2 really bad rides I put the '07 up for sale on Craigslist and had ONE response, from Frank in Minnesota who wanted to fly to Seattle and ride it home. Great adventure while you can still do it, I guess. While emailing Frank I had a really good ride on the Nevada and kind of wished I hadn't put it on the block. But I felt honor bound to complete the sale. Meanwhile, Chris put his wife's '05 Nevada up for sale, for $600 less than mine. I knew Chris from a ride last year so I rode the '05 Nevada and really liked the windscreen and bags and better rear suspension. With 500 less miles! I tried to get Frank to consider the '05 Nevada but Frank wanted the year warranty remaining and the rear rack. So, Frank came, tested, and bought the '07 Nevada. We drank lots of beer and he stayed with us overnight and departed last Sunday morning. I talked with him tonight in Western Minnesota, a few hours from home tomorrow. He rode from Seattle and visited Eugene, the Redwood forest, Crater Lake, Hell's Canyon, Missoula, Yellowstone, and Sturgis. The Moto Guzzi ran flawlessly for him. So, for the first time, I bought the same model as just sold. But I came out ahead in the "deal" with the extras, not to mention 9% cheaper insurance if I stick with Geico. $100 less if I go Progressive. To finish, today I rode 180 miles in temps ranging from 80 to 92F. The '05 Nevada ran flawlessly and got 65.2 mpg for the ride. The windshield did a good job and the bags held the Gatorade and water. Hmm, I wonder if a lowered Uly would be just as satisfying? |

So the Blast died on my wife and stranded us in Des Moines this weekend 150 miles from home. We had to trailer it to my Uncles house and abandon it, and now I"ll have to go back and get it with my truck. First guess would be that the coil fried. Not sure why I got so upset when Erik crushed a blast - today that seems like a perfectly natural thing to do... |

Naustin, sorry to hear about your bad luck. I know what it's like. I was on my way to Daytona Bike Week or Biketoberfest couple years ago and had a breakdown. Even during a bike event of that magnitude, when you would think the local dealers would be even more sympathetic to out of town riders, I could not get anyone to give me the time of day and all I needed was a couple parts. My husband was more than willing to do the work himself on the side of the road, they were just too busy selling T-shirts to care about the riders. That was, like you, 150 miles from home with a trip back in the truck to retrieve the Blast. I'm pretty sure crushing that Blast would have been an option to my husband day as well In the end, all gets fixed and soon she will be back on the road with a smile on her face and this whole thing will be forgotten. |

Naustin, Make sure it isn't the ignition module. You could probably use jumper wires directly to the battery to check the coil. Just hook up a positive and ground intermittantly. |

Thanks all.... Nice to hear from you Maggie. Even if I'm able to fix it, I think we'll probably leave it home when we go to the black hills in a month. This will be the first and last time I haul this bike in a truck. Swampy- yes, Ignition Module... Thats gonna be the ticket, isn't it... I couldn't remember which one was the usual suspect... At this point, my care-o-meter is has rounded the ton and is now square back to zilch. |

Naustin.... Know the feeling. My Blast blew up and stranded me 400 kms from home. Thanks to a cell phone and a CAA card I was able to get it towed into a bike shop without too much grief but I had to leave the bike behind and catch a bus home. I was contemplating the repair estimate of 1700 odd dollars when Buell Motor Company let me and the whole world know their real opinion of my bike. Given the context, I found this little episode particularly hurtful and insulting. Buell's current posture and ad campaign have effectively reduced the already low resale value of the bike in these parts to just about zero. So I am thinking that throwing a large wad of cash at this bike may not be the best option. The bike shop has made an offer for the bike, so sadly,it may be time to move on. |

Hey RLM, what happened? Gotta keep up on what's going down because I'm planning a 2,000-mile ride in the next 12months. How hard is it to replace an ignition module and how often do they crap-out? I've got 9,000 miles |

Rainman, since your bike is an 03 your's should be fine. The way to check would be to pop out the ignition cover and look at the PN on the module, It should end in 00YA. Those are improved modules, the one that end in 00Y are the trouble makers. Most 2001 bikes have the bad ones, I think they upgraded them by 2003. |

Hey Blast owners, I just saw this auction for a Buell Blast windshield from Goodwill. I would bid in a heartbeat, but it can only be picked up. The location is Evansville, IN. The starting bid is only $4 plus $1.50 handling. Anyone in the area? Too good to pass up! http://www.shopgoodwill.com/viewItem.asp?ItemID=50 80256 |

Rainman: When the bike shop got the bike apart they discovered that the carb boot had a fatigue fracture that started on the inside and appeared to have gradually worked it's way out. Actually I also had a bunch of extended trips planned for this bike. I was doing the first of these when it went west. |

I had a boot failure in town, but it limped back home. The repair cost $12 in parts and was so easy a rainman could do it! Have a spare in the saddle bag! |

Got a question, which way doe the crush gasket go. The flat part against the head and the tapered part against the header? I tried to reuse the old gasket that was already in there but it didn't work. heres the one new one I have:http://www.americansportbike.com/shoponline/ccp0-p rodshow/5931.html Is this the right one? |

RLM - $1700 for repair? I hope that estimate was before the culprit was known to be the boot. Which is, as Rainman says, $10-12 bucks, done in 5 minutes with a flat-head screwdriver (on the side of the road while on my way to Michigan this year). Although after this past trip north I am getting the "super-boot". Until then, the spare is always with me. For $1700 dollars sounds like they just want your bike for a profit in re-sale. Don't let them have it. Trips planned? You got miles of smiles ahead of you...Happy Trails |

What is the super-boot made of (why does it last longer than the stock boot)? And where do I find one? |

It is a custom made clamp and boot, you can find them on ebay. EZ |

I found a 2001 Blast local, NO TITLE. engine and tranny run fine, no drive belt for $600. I just offered $450 because I will never be able to register it. I just think it might be a good parts bike to have around. Harley Davidson just called my bike is ready after 2 weeks. Aparently the neutral safety switch kept killing the engine. It was the first major problem I have had with my bike. |
