I didn't buy a Blast for it's looks (prefer classic old style) or power, it is still fast enough to Kill You. I bought the bike because it was a Single Cylinder American made Motorcycle. I owned H-D Hummer Teleglides and 350 Sprints in the past. Having a Brand New Single I thought would be very Cool! Wouldn't have to hunt and scrape together parts to keep it running. Hate to see Production stop. All bikes have there Flaws and Shortcomings, still I hate to see the Blast come too an End. |

Harley Davidson used the Blast in the Riders Edge as a stepping stone for those intimidated by the big bikes. Will this mean the end of Riders Edge and ultimately affect HD sales? |

So, I'm trying to figure out where I boogered up yesterday, I found something in the bowl of my carb. I'll get pics as soon as I can, its a tube about 1 CM long, looks like stainless steel. Any ideas... |

Like a small barrel shaped piece with a 'step' in it? Sounds like the needle jet fell out. Did you pull out the main jet with the emulsion tube attached? |

Thats the piece! Yes I pulled the E-tube and the Main together. |

Thanks Erik! You guys are freakin' good! How lucky am I that it just happened to land into the bowl! I'm guessing it just goes inside the carb before the E-tube with the flat side up. |

No... I guessed wrong... Flat side down... Thanks again, everything looks much better now. I'll get it put back together and do a full ride report on all the neat-o stuff I've been up to with my much-more-aerodynamic-than-the-2010-Model-and-goin g-to-stay-that-way-DodGammit Blast!} |

Question for you Blast gurus... As you know I got my niece's Blast up and running by tearing it apart and cleaning it. I did a 1K service on it as well (actually more because I clean out all the lubricants and bled brake lines, etc). I have noticed a clunk when dropping into first. I've adjusted the clutch and primary according to the service manual, but I'm still wondering if I have everything set up correctly (the factory spacer was still on the primary adjustment screw). Should the blast "klunk" into first? Seems everything else is OK, I don't hear too much "klunking" when I shift, just from neutral to first. Wayne |

Wayne, if you pull the clutch and count to 4 and then gently press the shifter down, it should smoothly and quietly go into 1st. Worked for me. |

Is the clunk as you engage the trans? If so, then yeah... our Blast!s like to make their presence known. It cracks me up to sneak up on a squid on a Honda, smack it into first and watch the guy freak out cause he thinks his precious CBR is broken! But if you get a bonus clunk as you release the clutch then you probably need some adjustment of the clutch or primary variety. BUT YEAH!!! JARDINE EXHAUST FREAKIN ROCKS!!!! The sound is AWESOME!!! Gonna go irritate the neighbors some more, back soon with pics!!! |

Wbrisett: I have found that before shifting to first it helps to give the throttle a good turn (while holding in the clutch), release the throttle and then wait for the RPM's settle down. Seems to shift smoothly if I do this. Before I figured out this technique it was fun to see the looks on peoples faces as I crunched into first. People would ask if I broke it LOL |

"I've adjusted the clutch and primary according to the service manual," . Then the primary is too tight. 4 1/2 flats out is too tight. Go 8 flats. (some say more, but regardless, by the manual is too tight). |

The Blast is winning over new fans! I just completed the RE course this weekend (I passed!!) and it was great. The instructors were really good and I feel totally ready to pick up my Blast that's waiting at the dealer. The open road is calling! It's just a trip to the secretary of state away. All weekend I heard people say things like "I'm falling in love with this bike" or "This is so much easier to ride than my Ninja 250." One girl loved it so much she was drooling over the 2010 Blast in the showroom, saying "I want this bike so bad!" Once you ride one, it's hard not to like it. I can hardly wait to ride again!!! |

Congratulations Blastronomer! I rode motorcycles for years, then sold my last one and took a 15 year break. Not sure really why. But after buying another bike, I took the MSF course. It was amazing to see all the people who hadn't ridden getting into riding. My wife decided that she wanted to ride and her first bike was a Blast. It was that bike that convinced me to buy my Ulysses. The Blast is such a great bike to ride. I didn't do much riding on it because I already had two bikes when we bought the Blast for her, but I certainly like the simplicity of working on it. Welcome to the brotherhood, you're going to have a great time. Wayne |

WTF???!!! I am so confused! Did I just get ripped off on the 2009 Blast that I haven't even picked up from the dealer? If the Blast doesn't fit with the philosophy of Buell, then WHY THE HELL DID YOU JUST SELL ME ONE ERIK??!! You giant, smug, A-hole!! I feel like I'm on Jerry Springer and I just found out that my girlfriend is really a man and that everyone knew it, and has been laughing behind my back. Can you say, "bait and switch?" I just spent the weekend listening to people rave about the Blast (see my previous post). I just saw a "2010" Blast at the dealer, it's the same as the 2009, with a different graphic on the tank, but it's labeled 2010. Here I am, a new rider, elated over finishing my RE course and excited about my new "Buell" and before I've even taken possession of it, the head of the damn company tells me that it's not worthy to wear the name Buell anymore. I have to say, this is a huge kick in the buells. Thanks for the buzzkill party pooper. If this is some kind of marketing ploy, as some have suggested, then fire the jerk who came up with it. PS, what's the return policy on an unridden "Blast"? |

Oh, and I should probably change my username. Maybe, "Sucker" or "Rube" or maybe I'll just change it to my credit card number to make it easier to rip me off in the future. Is my irritation/disappointment being adequately conveyed in these posts? |

I do believe we Blastards have made our voices heard. On the bright side, the bike freakin' rocks. You can ride it hard in the city, hard on the backroads and do anything you want with it. It's not that it isn't a good bike, it's that it doesn't fit with what Buell wants: Big bikes with sporty designs that rule the roads. If you have the new plastics, without the "Buell" name, ride the Blast with pride -- the bike that fits in only with itself! Dang, talk about the ultimate rebel icon: The Blast -- So different no one wants to claim it! Heck, I may buy the same plastics to put on mine! |

The tinfoil-hat-wearing part of me thinks this is ploy by the marketing and R&D folks at Buell. They will gauge consumer/rider reaction and see where to go from here. There is a LOT of buzz on the web forums (not just here) from the crushing stunt and they'd be fools if they weren't lurking. I know where they can go. They can build an entry-level machine with entry-level pricing that will lure people into buying their "American" products. If they can do this under their new "racing is life" philosophy, then dandy. If not, they can go have fun racing with their buds. The bulk of "sport" bikes sold will never see a racetrack anyway. Maybe they could do this without insulting the people who put money in their pockets and helped them become what they are today. ______________________ Firing order: 1 (for now) |

Thanks Rainman. I guess that's what I needed. Some Badwebbers to give me a little electronic hug and tell me that everything is going to be ok. Some affirmation that my recent purchase wasn't a dud. I'm calming down now. I'll go pick up the bike tomorrow and I promise not to make a stink at the dealership. Badweb? More like Niceweb. |

Take a deep breath Blastronomer. It'll be ok. Your new bike is no less capable then it was before the 'divorce.' Enjoy it, have fun with it. Take pride that your bought an excellent bike in spite of horrible marketing hype. Try not let things outside your control influence your riding experience so much. It's all good man. If you really feel the need to share your CC info just let me know in advance. /wink Keep the shiny side up. |

Here's the best news: It gets better the more you ride it. I just turned 9,000 miles and the damn thing runs better and harder than it ever did. Still getting 60 mpg despite taking corners hard and using that crappy ethanol summer blend! This is a bike you can ride a long time and not get bored. Hell, you don't even have to wash it! |

Blastronomer... here's the thing. Once you get on the bike, push start, and let out the clutch, you'll never have buyers remorse. My wife is no longer riding her Blast (in fact she sold it a year ago), but she still talks fondly of that bike and she now owns a BMW. There's a story for Erik. Somebody who owns a $13K bike and talks fondly of her Blast to this day! I don't own a Blast, but I've certainly grown to respect it for many reasons. It's certainly not my Ulysses, or my BMW RT, but it's not pretending to be. It is the perfect bike in many respects. Easy to ride, easy to take care of, and gets great gas mileage. It may not get much respect (even from within the Buell camp), but you would be hard pressed to find another bike more bulletproof than the blast. Give somebody a couple of spanners and they can fix just about any problem anywhere. That's the type of bike you want. Put in gas, make sure it has oil and go enjoy life about a motorcycle. You don't want to be like me and spend all weekend performing services on bikes (had to finish up a few things on the Blast for my niece, and both my wife and I's BMWs needed their 6K services done). Ride like the wind Blastronomer. And forget all about what Buell (the company) is doing. You'll feel better when you turn the key tomorrow. Trust me. Wayne |

Did EB really think he wouldn't get this kind of reaction - does he really think this hasn't hurt business? Is he that stupid? - I hope not, but you know what - after that advertising campaign, I wouldn't put money on it either way - there you go - some of that Ruthlessness coming back at him -htfu EB - your going to need it. Has any other motorcycle company pulled a stunt like that, alienating customers, and possible customers just to make a statement? How sad - he did. EZ |

EZ, please don't take this as anything other then friendly... It might be a good time to step back and go riding. It seems you're taking this pretty hard. I appreciate that you're very passionate about blast and buells. Maybe I 'no read so good' but it seems as if you're taking this as a personal insult. Nobody has as much riding on this new marketing crap then EB. Even though it may seem otherwise, I doubt this step was taken lightly. The die has been cast and EB will be the one to reap the rewards (or losses.) Anyway, I'm starting to ramble. My only suggestion is to get some rants out, go riding, have a couple drinks and relax. None of this is worth a heart attack man. Have a great day. Blastronomer- gratz on the new wheels btw. |

EZ, the only other advertisement that I can think of where the manufacturer insulted their previous offering was for the Chevrolet (I believe) Malibu. The one commercial had the car (previous) year's model) sitting there and a jogger just runs right into it, stops, backs up, and runs into it again. They were making light of the fact that the car was SO ordinary and boring that it didn't even make its presence known. GM had another similar commercial for the same car that showed bank robbers coming out after a hold up, getting into their -last year's model- car and driving slowly away as throngs of police are running past them, seemingly not seeing the car. So boring it's invisible, I guess. Message sent to people who bought and were enjoying their car?? -You people were dumbasses for buying and enjoying our last year's model. Come give us some more money to show others that you're not boring. How you say...day ja voo? ______________________ Firing order: 1 (for now) Two other posts sneaked in before I hit the "post" button. Some of us are still wounded... I've been a newspaper reporter for 30 years and I'm pretty used to people mocking me,stabbing me in the back, etc. and I know this wasn't personal because EB doesn't know me. I love my bike. I love riding it. Whether anybody else likes it or not, I don't care. I've already started with my favorite retort to those who saw the video and have mocked me...... Yo, baby, I got your cube right here!" EZ, you rock. No one has put more effort into preaching the truth of The Blast than you. Without this forum and you nuts who love these bikes, I would not have bought Thumper. You, Erik, Blastomer, and all of us have got great rides and They can't take it away. To misquote somebody else: Screw them, let's ride! |
