by suggested work I assume you mean the bolt for the neutral light issue? I was thinking if that backed off enough it might be pressing against my clutch and cause it to slip in gear, but then I thought it would probably slip in all gears. Oh well looks like I am buying a bottle of amsoil on my way home and pulling the primary cover off. |

If you are going all the way to the shift pawl, then pick up a new detent plate, 2 new detent clips, a primary gasket, and a inspection cover gasket, and a shift shaft seal, lower chain guide/shoe, and o-rings for the primary adjuster, and primary drain bolt, and perhaps a new o-ring for the clutch cable as well. Sand and round the edges of the stator wire protection plate, and make sure the drum pins are the same size - 0.335 max - putting a drop of red locktite at the base of the pin and gently tapping it back in to the right size. Replace the detent plate and clip, adding a second if there seems to be enough room. Make sure that bolt is torqued to spec, Then do the shift pawl adjustment., then the clutch adjustment at the clutch, then at the adjuster and handle, then the primary adjustment. WOW! Its a tad over 100 today and riding in my new mesh pants is so much cooler, comfortable and I have more confidence, then wearing just jeans. I cant believe I waited this long to buy them. By far one of the best investments I have made. |

Hey Jugs! Sounds like you have an ignition module going bad. That is exactly how the Big Kids Blast acted. |

What tank bag that fits the Blast? Is there a brighter headlight I can buy? What is a good muffler? Was going to sell her when I buy the Lightning I want but she is so much fun, I'm keeping her too. |

Keep it, Roy! Yeah! There is always the legendary "$14 tank bag" (search engine?) project that turns a walmart day pack, some straps and velcro into a simple bag. Also newenough.com is a good source, and they have some closeout items. Gotta check carefully for correct fit, though: http://www.newenoughhp.com/closeouts/luggage/rapid_transit/abrams_strap_mount_tank_bag.html I think the newest Blasts have an improved headlight that could be used (experts, please confirm/deny). See ThumperFAQ and Thumper KV for basic mods, including lots of info on exhausts, intake, etc. EZ Blast has a great, cheap 7 mods for better performance. Maybe start with those, then work your way up to others. ENJOY!!!! (Message edited by fahren on July 18, 2009) |

Buell makes a tank bag specifically for the Blast. TourMaster makes one that holds a lot and just fits. The problem is finding tank bags with straps instead of just being magnetic.Luggage: http://www.badweatherbikers.com/buell/messages/201 64/63466.html?1241064598 I dont have confirmation on the new Blast headlight (but it sure costs a bunch more!) and its a common size, so an H4 unit is available. Exhausts are up for opinion, all are loud (relatively speaking), with the exception of perhaps the Jardine with the "Quiet Core" insert. Unless you are going for all out performance (IE spending $$$ on engine parts), V&H, D&D or Jardine are fine. Exhausts: http://www.badweatherbikers.com/buell/messages/201 64/6806.html?1247921068 |

Any idea of the Tourmaster part #? Can upgrade H4 car headlights be used? |

Not really sure where this goes in the Blast area of BWB... I have to tell you after doing a complete 1K service on my niece's Blast this weekend, the absolute dumbest thing Erik did on the Blast was requiring you to take off the front footpeg support, just to change out the primary oil. What a pain in the butt. What should have been a 15 minute job turned into a 45 minute job most of that trying to work a socket into the right position to undo the three bolts holding on left front footpeg support (of course it didn't help when I stripped one of the #27 torx screws on the primary adjustment opening, requiring me to pull out the grabbit to get ahold of the screw - there was some additional time in addition to the three bolts holding on the foot peg support). This bike had 600+ miles on it, but has been sitting around for a long time, so I changed out all the fluids, bled the brake lines, changed fuel lines, spark plug, etc. What surprised me was how much metal I found when I removed the primary drain plug. I don't think I've ever seen that many metal shavings on my Uly, BMW, or any other bike I've owned. I'll have to watch it and see how it goes with future services. Well my running issue in fifth gear ended up being my spark plug. The screw on cap that the wire hooks on to was loose. I tightened it up with a pair of pliers, and the problem went away. Thanks for the assistance. |

Wayne, You don't have to pull the peg mount to change the primary fluid. Re-fill it via the vent tube. It works perfectly since the tip on most trans fluid bottles fits into the vent hose perfectly. Just cut the tip, stick it securely into the hose, hold the bottle vertical and punch a hole in the bottom of the bottle and presto you have a 75W-90 I.V.! Be careful what you use for transmission lube...use 20-50 oil...I use Mobil 1 V-twin oil...if you use gear oil with sulphur in it....it will kill your charging stator.. |

Thanks for the tip, Not_purple_S2, I did it by the book, If you look at the section it recommends you take off the footpeg support. I just did what the book recommends. If you leave it on, you can't get to the primary screws, so how do you tell when you put in enough oil? The book recommends filling it until it's level with the bottom of the gear. Which isn't quite a quart (Fast1075 - I used 20-50 Royal Purple synth oil). Wayne |

Well actually - if you loosen the foot peg, that will be enough to move it to one side to get to the bolt. Just make sure there is no sulfur content in it. EZ |

Hello Blasters! I am a new Blast owner and rider. My incredible wife bought me a 2009 Blast for our 5th anniversary and I'm dying to ride it. I'm waiting to finish the RE course this weekend and then... freedom! We bought the bike a few weeks ago and while surfing around for info I found this incredible site. After reading thread after thread and viewing pic after pic, I feel like I've owned a Blast for years. The amount of rider knowledge here is fantastic. I've got so many ideas for mods now, I hardly know where to start. However, I think I'll ride it stock at least for this season and probably the next before I do anything major. Any tips for a new Blaster? I look forward to seeing you on the road! |

Welcome Blastronomer. Clever name btw. Congrats on your BLAST. One tip, keep an eye on your oil level and top it off when needed. Check the level after a half hour of riding. Heres a link to the first few easy mods you can do: http://www.badweatherbikers.com/buell/messages/201 64/406675.html?1228635023 |

Blastronomer, Grin per dollar, the best update would be to remove the baby ape hangars, and throw some super bike bars on. Those and some traction grips will run you total close to $30. |

Sauce and Indy, Thanks for the tips. I've seen a ton of posts about the bars and it seems to be somewhat of a personal preference issue when deciding what style to choose. But I agree, the stock bars will have to go at some point. What are some things to consider when choosing? |

Things to consider would be: can you lock the bars(some bars hit the tank so they don't lock), hand position, comfort level. |

Sauce, I believe I read one of your posts about switching from the superbike to the crossroads bars. What made you make the change and do you have a recent pic? As a new rider, I'm a little unsure about the differences between all the different types. Can someone give a short description of the basics? This site rocks! |

I just prefer the leaned over stance. I think the crossroads bars gave me a little better handling too. The crossroads bars are better with rearsets I think. The superbike bars are good with the stock mid controls or rearsets. |

I run the superbike with the stock foot controls. I chose the superbike because being 6' 2", the stockers made me feel like a giant on a scooter. |

I'm running the stock bars, but I've seen them moved slight back toward the rider to get rid of the ape-hangerness -- if that's a word. I find the stock position just fine, although I think the superbike bars LOOK so much better. |

Bad news, my bike broke down. I filled it with gas last night, rode it home and this morning I started it headed off to work it bogged getting on highway. It will restart but bogs and dies. Any ideas? |

I had that issue when the kickstand switch was not working, I sprayed old contact cleaner though it really well and it worked out. You can disable it, but that is a no-no in the safety books. Sorry I've been gone so long, I'm back and planning a top end rebuild of the 01 Blast. While fixing and upgrading a few things. |

Welcome Blastronomer! Superbike bars are the way to go. The baby ape hangers are only good for apes, not for the Blast. The superbike bars are more comfortable and give you abetter feel for the road. Now, as for being in Michigan, we were riding Buells around Hell on Sunday. So take your class, get your license and lets go riding. |
