Just something to share. Friday of last week and this Monday I had two different riders going the opposite direction tap on their helmets instead of waving. If it hadn't been for being with the group on the last SLO Ride I wouldn't have known what this meant. I have all of those riders to Thank for that bit of new knowledge and I even got to tap on my own helmet to warn a fellow rider passing me the other way. hint: he's one of the ones who taught me what this meant, lol. Anyways I sure am glad there are other riders out there watchin out for their fellow bikers. |

Ok...so the helmet tap is another form of wave??? or a warning?? |

Tapping your helmet is to warn of cops ahead. |

Yes - tapping the helmet is commonly used to alert of cops ahead, but officially, it's to signal "high beam" http://www.ama-cycle.org/roadride/groupRideSignals .asp |

WOW! If you hadnt referenced the AMA link I would've called you a liar!!! NEVER seen it used for that, but then again I rarely ride with a group at night! So for oncoming riders it means there's a cop ahead. For a rider behind you it means your high beam is on (at night only) A friend I was riding with (not sycho) kept tapping his helmet. I immediately slowed down to the speed limit. Eventually he drove me nuts with it. I finally asked him what he thought it meant. He thought it meant stop and was getting aggravated why I wouldnt!LOL! Its good to go over hand signals before a ride so everybody's on the same page. My BMW friend is big with it and I'm not that much into sign language. Kind of like text speak. Some know a little, some a lot. |

i use the head-tap alot, chp are multiplying like rats around here... luckily ive noticed that cops not only dont look twice at the blast, they dont even look once lol. they are completely oblivious i exist.... hope that doesnt change when i put on a V&H exhaust |

Here's a good one we use down here...if the rider ahead of you extends a leg and shakes it...it means debris is on the road..left leg...left side....right leg..right side...has kept me from crashing from sand in a corner many times. |

+1 on using the legs. MSF actually recommends using the leg shake on either side as opposed to the arm extension and pointing. |

Oops! Bad assumetion on my part. Yes, it was to warn of police up ahead. Yesterdays warning definitely saved my but cuz I was about 15 to 2 over the posted speed limit. But when I did see the cop he had his Radar gun pointing right at me going the limit. So again I thank the fellow rider who warned me. |

I thought debris on the road was if it was on the left you point with your hand, but if it was on the right (your throttle hand) you point with your leg. |

Being an MSF instructor, I just wait until my buddies hit it and then, at the next stop or as they pick themselves up off the ground, I say in my best fifth-grade teacher's voice: If you used the SEE process, you wouldn't have had that trouble. |

Posted on Tuesday, June 23, 2009 - 08:51 am: Erik, I think that exhaust setup looks pretty slick. It gives the BLAST a whole new look with all that clearance under it. What made you do it that way? Sorry for my lack of response-I missed that post. It's done mostly now for clearance. I've seen too many Blast exhausts bounce of the ground and add a belly pan to it (required for racing), just makes it worse. It looks cool (I think so) and is quieter are just added benefits. I doubt its the best for power, but certainly better than most. |

Of course the fact that Aaron Wilson and others said that an ideal Blast exhaust would be tuned and almost twice the length of the bike - mentioned in our earliest archives - didn't affect that decision at all - eh? - lol EZ |

i wish i had the money for the jardine right now. Or the time to find an exhaust shop to make up a copy of EZ's lsr exhaust. I have a supertrap from a s2 but no pipe yet. I am going to try welding the pipe back to the muffler as a temporary solution. I am assuming the exhaust is mild steal? |

Time of death July 1st, 2009 @ 8:26PM - sensor was fine, means drum is fubar (a true mechanical fluke) - shit! Ahhh well, I shall rebuild, tear her all the way down and rebuild all the way up! I'll make her a bit faster, alot stronger and slap her into that XB frame that has been waiting for such an occasion. All I need for the street is the gears back cut, new ceramic bearings all around, and the Baker drum - most definitely. A fresh 515cc kit, SE550 cam and 1.75 ratio lifters, definitely stage 3 head, and pro-series oil gear pump gear, with my intake, exhaust, and SE ignition should put me in the 50 hp range add to that the lighter XB frame and swing arm - which holds a bit more oil and I should have a fun bike - but that will be a year or two down the line, right now I have to start shopping for a replacement weekend toy - an 2009XB9 or a 2010XB9 in Black - supposed to be the new color choice - either way the bike will end up black - lol - as for my daily rider, it will inherit the clip-ons, Works shock, tail-section, and tank cover, and she will be rocking! My final project for the daily rider will be a cafe tail end like Terry's. Thus I would have two customs, and able to dodge the smog law bullet just passed. Hey Ez, Sorry to hear of the loss, but it just opened new doors! Anything off of your bike that you don't need, or will not use? |

Sorry to hear of your loss EZ. May happy days be ahead for you. You will post pics when you split the case....right? Particularly interested in what exactly went wrong. |

Yes - the neutral light sensor was fine - you bet I'll post pics of splitting the cases, best way to remember how to put it together - lol - yeah I am kind of bummed - I've had some great times on that bike, but its not like I'll be suffering with chopped liver - the daily rider is a hell of a Blast and will get the shock to complete the suspension, clip-ons, and some body parts - and in time I'll do a few head part upgrades, and some ratio rockers, throw in a good cam and enjoy - the intake and exhaust are top notch, and she shifts well.
