Okay, here we go. I loath starting any new threads (as almost everything has been covered), but this one definitely seemed worthwhile. It is only for women.

ok, wasn't sure where to post this so here it is....LOL

I rode the Blast EVERYDAY this week to go to work, and I LOVE it! that bike is just so perfect for me! puts a smile on my face everytime! it is a 40 miles round trip, so that is a nice distance to get experience : )
now as far as reaction...well...I dont think anyone is that excited about my Buell : (
keep in mind that I live in rural Kansas, the town I work in has MAYBE 5000 ppl in it so I am THE only one in a 50+ miles radius that own a Buell...LOL (well that's what I am thinking anyways since I've never seen any other ones) The mailman knew it was a Buell and that they are made by HD but other than that I think ppl dont know what to think..is it a cruiser? a sportbike? or what kind of bike is it??!!!
which is rather cool, nice to be different huh?

change of topic, anyone knows why they stop making the cyclone? that would be a nice upgrade after a blast, right?

I would like to know the same thing. I've always liked the Cyclone, kinda reminds me of a larger Blast.

The Cyclone was the old 'tube frame' style Buell and they ditched the tube frame for the new XB frame in 2003. Progress. There have been many variations of the XB since 2003. My personal favourite was the TT, which I think only lasted a year or maybe two. The 'tube framed' "White Lightning" was probably the best looking Buell ever (in my opinion).

The XB9s is the natural upgrade from the Blast. Same style of powerband and handling, but certainly much more bike! 'User' friendly, but with the get up and go if you wanted. At least that was my impression.

aleutian, that was exactly what i was thinking! looks just like a bigger blast : )
the XB9s seems like a lotta bike, no?
seems to me that you'd have to be careful of doing unintentional wheelies and stompies with it...LOL
If I'd had to pick another Buell to ride, I'd go with the Ulysses : )

The XB9 has a very user friendly powerband (which is true of most HD twins). Its easy to 'dog it' slow or get on it when you want power. The Uly has a bigger engine and a lot more seat height, making it a little more bike to handle.
Whats nice is you do have choices!

well, thanks for your input : )
I've never seen a XB9S in "person"...Buell dealers are few far in between here so maybe when I go to Topeka in 2 weeks, I,ll go take a look at the HD dealer over there and look at one. I love the look of it, like I do all Buells of course..LOL but I was under the impression that it was a really mean machine targeted for more experienced riders.

XB9's are the 'bottom' of the Buell twin line.
Then comes the XB12's which include the "R" models and Uly model.
Then comes the 1125's, which are definitely for the more experienced riders.
I wont go into the different suffix designations, but those are the basic three configurations.

The XB9 - in my opinion is the best XB built. Why?
1) The 9 has all the protection and longevity features of the 12, and is under-stressed compared to the 12 due to the shorter stroke, meaning its ability to last longer without major maintenance issues is greatly increased.
2) The 9 has the same wheel base and handling ability as the R bikes making it actually a better handling bike than the rest of the S type bikes - that all have longer wheel bases.
3) Keeping the short stroke and boring the 9 out to the size of the 12 and adding the 12 primary chain, leaves you with a more powerfull 12 than the stock 12s - enough power for anyone really, and still you would have better reliability than the stock 12, and you can easily do this down the line if you are bored with the stocker's power.

For those three reason that is why the 9 is the best choice in a Buell twin to buy. A reliable workhorse and track dog - who could ask for more.

Not to backtrack the conversation or anything, but Sleez just bought a Cyclone and I'm thinking of riding it when it's ready, but I'm just a little concerned about the jump since I ride a Blast now, and I've never ridden anything else before. I'm not entirely sure what to expect with it.

When you twist the throttle it will do more and do it more quickly. It's not as nimble as a Blast, so take it easy on the sharp curves and quick changes until you get used to it.

ok, I went to the HD dealership in Topeka like I said I was going to and...

the lightning is up to my waist and then some when I am standing beside it so I CANT even TOUCH the floor, I am missing like 3-4 inches! !!
1125 I did not even think about siting on them...LOL that is too much bike and I would not be interested in one even if i could somewhow put my feet on the ground : )
that is all they had, lightnings and 1125.
so it looks like all the other Buells might be all too tall for me : (

I did sit on a sporster and on the new edition nightster and it was very comfortable so who knows ?!

we went on a group ride yesterday and we had planned on riding on a Moto Guzzi 1200 (I think it said "bellagio" on the side, started with a B in any case)I picked the bike because it reminds me a BIG blast with the round headlight and little front fairing plus it was red like mine : ) but as my hubby was putting gas in it, the gas started leaking all over the place, like not dripping, it was POURING out from the bike : (
so we rode on another bike needless to say...LOL
we ended up on a Yamaha FZ1, which was a very nice ride!
I was the passenger for this ride and enjoyed it but I still like my Blast the best : )

so you are saying it could be lowered to be like 27"? how tall is the standard height for them? the one I sat on was higher than 30" for sure and the HD guy said it was THE tallest bike of the Buell line up ?!
I can flat foot my Blast easily, it could even be a little taller and I would still be fine, I had a Ninja 250 prior, it was taller and I was still able to pretty much flat foot it too.

I am not ready to upgrade from the Blast yet but it is nice to get informed on what else is available outhere, right?!

the new 9's are 30" - with the low seat 28.5" - height of a stock Blast with a regular seat, with the SCG suspension you would be even lower - they used to be taller - that was the big complaint, they fixed that - lol

A picture to stay on topic!

Unless you go fiddling with the suspension, a SCG is as low as it will ever be as built...it already has the "low" seat...I cannot flat foot both sides...it is barely low enough for me and still be "safe" at a stop...but i'm gonna get one next year ; )

Rode the little blast to work today...the weather was in the high 90's...thank god for the mesh Joe Rocket BTW,
good grief that bike is fun to ride : )
I am scratching my head to try to find what bike "could" I get for my next one and it is hard to find one that pleases me as much as the Blast. look wise, $$$, gas mileage, weight and height, plus I LOVE the fact that the panels are syrlun (SP?) something less we need to worry about right ?!
it would be so nice if Buell would come up with a 750 cc, something between the Blast and the other ones, dont you guys agree?!

this is totally OFF TOPIC but....
any of you seen/rode the new Suzuki Gladius???!! that is one sweet looking bike, love the inspiration from the Ducati : )
IMO opinion, naked bikes are by far the best looking ones out there : )

Under the guise of "Who we are and what makes us tick!":
While I'm sure some may think I'm just out to bash the Japanese...a little history.
The Japanese have been copying other existing makes styles for a long time. The old Honda 360(?) was often mistaken for the classic Mini. They copied many of the 60's + 70's auto designs, but sadly often chose AMC as their model. The entire V-twin 'cruiser' line up is a copy of Harley (it was certainly never because the v-twin was a superior efficient engine design). Many of the bikes have parts that have been designed to look like Harley parts, but actually serve a different function. They've tried to mimic the Harley v-twin sound and although HD patented it, they've come very, very close. 'They' came out with a V-Rod copy I think they same year the VRod came out. Impossible to deny the Indian copies. There certainly wasnt any other reason to come up with their own 'softail' other than to compete with Harley (again, not a superior engineering design).
They've also 'borrowed' the underslung exhaust of the Buells along with the oil and gas in frame. As previously mentioned the Honda GB500 was a British cafe racer copy. Oftentimes in advertising they wont even try and disguise what they are selling. They stop just short of calling it what it isnt. They'll even sell you a brand new "Classic American Motorcycle" (direct quote)!!! Dont even get me started on the whole "Star" motorcycle line up.
They are very good at taking an existing design and refining it and you dont really have to look hard to find examples.

Of course, now we copy them: (

Many of HD/Buells designs can be found in motorcycling's long history. The belt drive, softail frame, brake rotor thats attached to the rim, etc. I'm certainly not deluded that HD is an innovator either. They, like all, have had their moments.

wwwwhhhoooaaaa, I DID get you going, didn't I ??!! LOL
still totally off topic,
I really didn't put much thought into what went into making that "new" Suzuki Gladius, It caught my eye because of its design, yes, because it looks like a Ducati, of course : )
to be honest, I wouldn't buy one but I still think it looks good.
another bike that caught my eye, more seriously this time, is the new Triumph Bonneville (scrambler isn't too shabby either) and this is a bike I would consider buying.

When we went on our ride last saturday, everybody was riding an Asian bike (Kawi zx6, Honda CBR and a Yamaha FZ1 plus the guy on the scooter which I am sure is asian as well) during the whole ride I couldn't help to think...these bikes really sound like crap!
opinion that I shared with my hubby once back home : ) he disagrees, he loves that high pitch sound the best...???!!!
so I guess I am partial to the way a bike sounds too now, a Buell sounds a hell of a lot better than any of those bikes!

The only brand I am really partial to is JEEP, I wont drive anything else and I dont care for other brands that have been copying them for decades now, NOTHING will be as good as a Cherokee or a Wrangler, they are THE original, period.
That's my opinion and I've been sticking to it for the last 15 yrs : )

foot note: last winter hubby is out getting some fire wood, gets stuck in a little creek with is Chevy PU S-10 4X4.. calls me on my cell to see if I could go get him outta there...LOL...my Cherokee did the job on the 1st pull : ) that is the truck PLUS the load of wood, enough said!
Chevy=0 ----------JEEP=1

i think a 600-750 would sell very well. Keep the current Blast for RE and make a XBlast for normal customers.
