Thanks EZ!

I forgot to write the "stupid" part of my post. As I reconstructed the crash in my mind later, the only thing I could figure is that as I leaned into a low angle turn, I had down shifted to a gear that when I let the clutch go it made the back wheel skip and come out from under me at that angle.....

My stupidest thing was running out of gas in rush hour morning traffic in the middle lane of a 3-lane one-way highway on a bridge over the Arkansas river. Luckily the car behind me realized something was wrong and stopped when I did. The car in the lane to the right of me also stopped, so I could shamefully push my bike to the tiny one-foot wide space between the line and the rail of the bridge. Someone asked if I needed help, and I said no, that I could call someone, and pretended to be getting my phone to make the call. I was hoping that it appeared I was having a mechanical issue. I sat there waiting for all the people who saw me to get far enough away so that I could lean over and move the reserve switch over. I later took the suggestion of someone who said they reset the tripometer at every fill-up, knowing they could get approximately 100 miles on a tank of gas. At 90 miles I fill up.

Even my son's scooters have gas gauges though. Is it too much to ask? lol

I'm in the habit of moving that valve over when my Blast starts to sputter.

Slyone--glad to hear the pizza made it.

I once tried to make a left turn out of a parking lot at night and realized as I was pulling out that there was a median in my way. So I looked into oncoming traffic and maneuvered my way back into the parking lot around the cars, feeling like a dork with a death wish. I resolved not to do that again. And yeah, have run out of gas on the freeway prob 3 times and have gotten pretty good at switching the valve while coasting. The last time the bike just died without sputtering, riding down the freeway, no warning. That trip odometer gets reset every fillup, and I tend to just leave the fuel valve in the on position now.
Slyone, glad you got yours put back together. Live and learn for sure.

So it sounds like running out of gas on the freeway is pretty vanilla.

How many of y'all took it in for warranty b/c of it.....

I was at a bike night, fired it up for some guys to drool on. Not bothering to look at the speedo and forgot I had it in gear cause I was on a tiny slope, I let out the clutch while idling.

I felt stupid.

I had been on my V-Star just a few months when I first started in this motorcycle madness, it was my 3rd bike but the one I could ride the best. Went to party with a friend and the guy lived off a dirt road. I stressed all the way there about that dirt road. Turned out to be no problem. Then we got to his driveway. Uh yeah, a quarter mile trail through the woods of soft sand. All I could think was "don't drop this bike" and I didn't, made it all the way, back tire going side to side, down that drive to the clearing at his house. Threw my arms up in triumphant jubilee only to have the bike lurch forward and fall to the ground with me under it. Yep, still in gear!

I was riding an old scooter about 15-years ago, in the pasture. I think it was a 50cc. Either way, I was going along in the pasture, not paying attention to the terrain, and ended up sliding down a about a 7/1 grade hill, without getting all scratched up.

When I got the bottom of the hill, I ended up landing in a hole and getting the damn bike stuck. Here I am, I'd survived one of the scariest things I'd even seen and I got stuck in the mud. It took two 15-year-old guys for us to get that bike out of the mud hole!

im more into the scooter world, 80's vespas. my first two wheeled bike was a Kymco Agility, a little 125cc scooter.

when i bought it no license was necessary, so i just got on and rode. acting like a squid i was out in a polo and cargo shorts, and learned you can't break and lean into a turn the hard way. slid on my head, arm and leg. painful mistake, but valuable one. im geared up as much as possible for every ride now.

picking up a 2000 blast tomorrow afternoon and am doing the MSF course on the 11th of may. excited for the new toy!

I've got a few , heres one.

I'm on a 6hp mini bike , and I decided it would be fun to romp through an empty , but plowed field. The first rut I hit brought the front end up , and whiskey grip kicked in. I ended up doing a completely uncontrolled wheelie , that seemed to never end. Every time I hit a plow rut , it would force me to gas it , and I maintained the wheelie for about 1/4 mile before I crashed and tore my jeans OFF... I was visiting family that I was also meeting for the first time , and the bike belonged to a neighbor kid of my cousin... I didnt have a change of clothes , and the kid was pissed because I bent the foot peg.

Minibikes are KILLERS!

I had a 5 horse. Think 1968. I am riding across a meadow following a wagon path on the other side of a stream that I usually didn't go on(it's now a golf course surrounded by million dollar homes) I didn't see a large rock in my path which sent me chest first into the ground bending the forks!
I remember waking up thinking Wha...?

I just google mapped it. Wabeek Golf Course, Haines Lake, there is a creek that drained the lake that went north and south. The creek is now gone.

Time for the Dancing around the Oak tree naked ritual to heal and fix the bike!
