Well, the Sport Demons dont come in a rear size to fit the Blast and I wouldnt want to be the first one to try running a front tire on the rear (sometimes okay, sometimes very bad). You cant however go too soft (sticky) on the front tire. I'm sure they'll still go twice as long as a rear and front tire traction is extremely important and not to be compromised. At least I'll never make that mistake again!* *For those that dont know front tire traction is probably the most important safety feature on your Blast. Choosing cheap, poor quality or hard low traction tires can be very costly. Its not someplace to skimp. Dont kid yourself. There is a very small elite club of riders who've never been down. Odds are though, the longer you ride, it will happen and there may be absolutely nothing you can do about it. Ironically, for the Blast, the stickiest front tire is also one of the cheapest (Pirelli) and good brakes are nothing without the tires to back them up. A rear tire slide can be fun. A front tire slide is usually an accident. My yearly front tire safety rant over. FWIW: Does it surprise that r's opinion is still that if you're not doing it his way, then you're WRONG! Anyone got any feedback to Awf_Hand or myself regarding the leakage around the airbox? |

ok guys. Really sound stupid but rattle was exhaust system. Went on 100 mile ride and exhaust (stock) broke right under comes off cylinder. Believe muffler was rusted inside and making noise. Bike is really clean. don't know how exhaust got that way ordered V&H exhaust sys. Must I jet? Have been reading above and am mixed up. What size pirelli's do you guys suggest front and back. Ez? I will give you guys two bits of insight and one comment. As far as the fuel smell from the air box, get the crankcase breather tube out of the air box, I don't care where you put it but don't put it in the airbox. That will cut back tons of mess coming out of the airbox. The rest is fuel, when the intake valve opens there is a slight amount of intake reversion due to many factors such as cam timing and valve overlap and the only thing that will reduce fuel coming back out of the intake would be a longer intake tract. There, I said it....LOL Now tires, 110/70/16 on the front and 140/70/16 on the rear, period! I do have an Avon AM26 Roadrunner, dual compound tire on the rear(well thats what I understand about the AM26 weather it is or not....) Now the larger size tires are all positives, no negatives and I wonder why they don't come on the bike stock. I am running the stock size AM 26 on the rear of the Big Kids Blast trying to find a solution to replacing rear tires so frequently. The combination is a very good one as I far as I can tell, I don't race but I do scrape pegs and ride at high speeds frequently, and only have good feelings for the AM63 front AM26 rear combo. Thats that... Oops, I forgot, I regret to announce that due to my motorcycle additiction I severly pissed off my girlfriend that I love dearly, I mean she is like a sister to me, a perfect match....but I was babysitting my Ulysses(its was a totaled 08 Ulysses XT, with minimal damage, I am waiting for a salvaged title inspection so I can get a real license plate) at the Big Kids bike shop waiting for the shop to close so I could bury the bike way deep inside the store, away form harm and mishap and I missed a perfect oportunity to be with the love of my life. The worst part of it was she called me out on it, and let me know how I blew it. Let this be a lesson to us all.... May I find the help to assist me through this difficult time..... We are supposed to take the Ulysses out for the weekend.... |

Concur with Swampy on the airbox. High speed riding will worsen the problem. Hot weather and too thin oil will also make it worse. Engine 'repair' will make it go away. V&H -yes, you must re jet for your bike. 2000 Blast has a 165 main jet which is too lean.170 main which was stock in later years, may be okay and I wouldnt worry too much about running that way (just listen for knock and ping). Can you get away without re jetting-yes, for awhile. But you run the risk of severe engine damage if you dont pay some attention to it. (see carb section). 45/170 is minimum. Pirelli's now come stock on the new Blasts. 16" MT75 is all you need to know (MT 75's only come in 2 sizes, 17" & 16"). Thats the Pirelli you should run. The Pirelli Scooter Diablo's (with the 140 rear) are also a good choice, but will change the handling (maybe good, maybe bad). You'll find lots of opinions on what people like and it will depend on their riding style, weight, climate, etc. I dont care a lick about tread life (see above post), I just care about traction. And yes, 'we' race on the MT75's. The down side to bigger tires is the extra weight of the tire. It can cost ride quality and HP (and possibly handling). |

The Over-sized Pirelli where practically made for the Blast - anyone who likes quick planted handling will like them as well - I really think they are better than the Stock tire in every aspect - longer life, stickier, better handling - worth the small weight difference - a bit like the early XB's had special tires that weighed less, but actually handled worse than other brands - lol - I like the stock tire - championed it for years, but I know what I see and feel - the Over-sized is better. Seperate note - Cruised Mt Diablo HD/Buell - they have a 2008 1125R - 600 miles for 7000 - out the door, approximately what I paid for my first Blast - wow - must resist temptation! a guy at work with a blast told me he's been having problems with belts breaking after only a few hundred miles. what are the procedures for adjusting belt tension or what else could be causing him to break belts that often? I used to own a blast but not long enough to have to do really any maintenance at all other than a couple oil changes, and I never bought the service manual so don't know what to tell him. I've told him about this site but he doesn't sound interested in joining - he just wants to ride the thing and keep saving gas money |

The belt is non-adjustable. Tell him to not twist the belt when putting it on, tell him to put the belt on with the lettering so he can read it when he is facing the bike. |

there is no adjustment. Just go through everything to make sure nothing is bent or installed incorrectly. |

So Thumper, now you're seeing the problem that I've had, and why I'm pursuing the PCV fix on my own. I don't accept that the best advice for fixing a leak is re-route the leak so it goes somewhere else. My leak is oil. It's not gasoline. It may take a couple weeks, but I will have a new PCV and will report back with findings. I have two untested hypotheses: The oil was overfilled at some point in the bike's life and the PCV got enough oil inside it to not seal properly thereverafter. The plastic bodied PCV warped from being on top of, -i.e. one of the hottest points on -the engine, and isn't sealing as well as it should be - the gasket material around it's base already failed on mine. -(Although, perhaps vibration could cause a similar defect.) Both of the above being exacerbated by higher RPM riding, and both being remedied by a new PCV valve. Will report back. _______________________ Firing order: 1 |

I don't know if it's too late in the conversation, but I'm running the Cheng-Shin Barracuda's on my Blast and they are pretty darn good. Inexpensive to boot. They warm up fairly quickly, stick good, are amazing in rain, and seem like they have a decent lifespan (they've seen about 1000 miles and the front still looks like new, the rear isn't bad at all). I'm at work right now, but if anyone cares I can get the sizes when I get home. Also, forgot to mention that while I don't recall the exact sizes, I know that both tires are oversized compared to the stockers. (Message edited by kustomklassix on May 28, 2009) |

Awfhand, if it is too much oil caused by engine blowby, the only thing you can do is rebuild your top end as your piston rings/cylinder is probably worn to where it is sealing poorly. |

I have the MT75s. They are excellent. I wish they would warm up a bit quicker, but other than that, no issues. I only asked about the others, because the Pirelli site had them under "You should also consider" Thanks guys! |

Rumors are that it may be dropped and a 250 may replace it as a RE bike. I guess we will find out in July. Kinda makes you wonder why they would supply someone else with all of those blast engines, unless they were planning on a surplus. |

Swampy, I meant that it was simply overfilled - not by me... I can't believe that the top end would need doing with only 6k on it. The bike had HD Fossil 20-50 for the first 1k, SE Syn 20-50 for the next <3k (warranty per.) , and Amsoil 20-50 syn AC Vtwin since. Work in progress. _____________________ Firing order: 1 |

Cool prototype designs but at $13-16K for a 500cc thumper I don't think they will sell many in the US. Mac should ask HD/Buell to license the belt drive. |
