OK, so it's 1 AM and I should be sleeping. Always thought that “I” was the one to over-analyze everything, but then I wake up from a dead sleep to realize that while I slept my brain was hard at work without me and now it wouldn’t let me get back to sleep until I posted this thread.

I have thoroughly read about the different exhaust systems for the Blast; performance, sounds, power, etc. In my sleepy haze here I was just wondering how many miles you are getting out of the different exhaust systems? What sort of (if any) issues have crept up as the miles continue to mount. Then correlate that with any issues you have with the Blast itself as the odometer ticks upwards.

My first V&H netted me 47,000 miles on the ’05. During that time I changed a head gasket and piston (minimal wear) and then the stator. The V&H sounded great and I never had any power issues (but I’m not a race jockey, so that may not mean much to some of you hot rods out there). Big complaint: vibration caused the rivet holes to elongate over time and becomes loose. Packing? What packing? Ground clearance? Well lets just say I “modified” the underside of the V&H by way of speed humps and other road hazards (damn dog).

2nd V&H is toast at 14,950 miles. Can’t say it’s lack of reliability caused any problems with bike (although the jury is still out as to what happened with the 2005, haven’t had time to crack the motor on it). The exhaust was switched from the ’05 with almost 6,950 miles on it and I’ve put another 8,000 on it with the 2009. It has been nothing but a headache. I do notice a little more vibration with this ’09 Blast than I did with previous bike, could this increased vibration be too much for the used pipe?

Just put the D&D on and I’m hoping to get a ton of miles out of it, but I can't help to wonder about all of you that have already road tested the various exhaust systems.

So: lets have it; I’d like to get your ride reports: How many miles are you getting out of your exhaust? What issues have you had along the way?

You hit a dog? Hi Maggie, after reading your report of increased or more vibration than your 05' made me remember something GearheadErikO pointed out to me. I had the rocker box replaced on my 07' under warranty and the they said I needed the front isolater replaced as well. Erik is pretty sure that the new isolater is the culprit in the increased vibration I am feeling now.

Yes - the new Isolator is a stiffer unit, but still not as bad as a stock 2000 with the extra tie bar - think how much vibration I'll have when I go to that on my 2000 - should be racing stiff then - I might have to add the tie bar to the toy as well - lol - so the daily driver doesn't start outclassing the toy in higher speed handling. As long as your not out for ultimate power that D&D will last forever with just Rustoleum Black hi temp paint touch ups - I have customized all my exhausts with speed bumps - so no worries there - lol - _ know that the vibration is prominent at 1500 to 1800 - so is only really noticeable when bike is first started and going up to and down from hi idle. Otherwise It isn't bad. The 2000 vibrates worse still with a new old style isolator in her.
When you want ultimate power - just switch out to a WB or Jardine header using the stock lower front mounting hardware and enjoy a very nice increase in everything and a top end rush - its a pitty how the Jardine can chokes that excellent header. The D&D is the best style of can I have had - in terms of durability.

After the first 200 mles with D&D, so far all is well. Good power, no popping and was able to get up to speed on highway with no problems, quickly getting up to 90 for just a short spurt with little effort. I feel like it is a bit louder than the V&H, especially when throttling up. This makes talking with husband a little of a challenge so I just try not to talk while getting up to speed.

As for the vibration - I do notice more vibration on the '09 and this felt enhanced with the D&D, but that is just something I'll get used to. I'll keep a closer watch on things that can succumb to the vibration.

EZ - thanks for the tips.

Mike - about that dog thing. About four years ago while riding just North of Tampa on one of those lonely two lane country roads a dog ran out after my husband who was riding in front of me. I knew instinctively by his distance ahead of me that the dog would miss him but I wouldn't be able to miss the dog. Without even realizing I was doing it, I had already downshifted and was braking, but in my mind I was just bracing for the inevitable, knowing there was no way I'd miss it and was going to go down. Just as I impacted the dog with front tire I looked up and saw my husband's hand motioning me to speed up, I did and just sort of motored right over. Poor dog, I felt bad for it (although it should have been secured) but I was lucky that I hit it just right and was holding on tight. This all happened so quickly and given the direction and unpredictability of the dog, keeping a straight line and not making an abrupt attempt to avoid it, probably saved the day. But I used up all the luck in my "lucky Buc game day t-shirt" and the Buccaneers lost the football game that day. Good trade off.

I love the Pro-Series. Not TOOO loud, but loud enough, and looks good to boot!
