Check your boot for tears, your grounds for tightness, what work was last done to the bike. You did the kick stand disable? You did the clutch safety switch disable? EZ |

I did the disables. The boot is brand new, right out of bag. I havent done anything to my bike recently. |

Update, I guess its getting too much air. I put my hand over the carb and it started fairly easily and ran alright. Now how do I fix that. |

That sounds like a bad boot! Thats the biggest reason it gets too much air or your auto enrichener isnt working. |

Could be your boot wasn't mounted correctly the first time. Take it off and check for cracks too. I know it's new, but it wouldn't be the first time a new one was bad. |

I checked the boot, its fine and on there fine. I have been using bags over my air filter to keep the air out and it will turn over sometimes but I am getting an extreme amount of kick back, including 2 fireballs out of the carb. In case you guys don't know I have a velocity stack with a K&N filter. |

Hey all, I'm looking at getting a used Blast. I haven't looked at it yet but the owner says the dealer told her it need the jets cleaned. Is this fairly easy? It has sat for 2 years and that's why. Anything else that will need to be done? Drain gas ect? Thanks |

Mine sat for like 2 years before I bought it. All I did was charge the battery, clean the jets, drain the gas and refill it, change the spark plug and the boot, and the bike fired right up. All that won't take too long, the only part that will is charging the battery, which is just a patience thing. |

So we tried to install a givi windshield today and knowing we needed to cut the brackets we set to it. Unfortunately we really never got started because we're not sure where exactly to cut the brackets. The windshield came with instructions on how to assemble the hardware but they are vague on putting it on the bike. It has the piece that I believe slides onto the brackets then there are the adjustment bolts...where the heck do those go? If someone has some input or pictures showing how they installed theirs it would be real helpful! |

The slow jet is usually the one to get clogged. Order a # 45 slow jet and replace it if the bike doesnt run well. Otherwise "if it aint broke, dont fix it". If it runs fine, ride it and adjust as necessary. I've seen way to many people get in over there head and screw up a perfectly good carb because someone told them "its been sitting, so you'd better clean the carb." Absolute hogwash! |

She won't come down on the price as I had hoped. EZ mentioned a rocker cover gasket someone else mentioned the intake boot. Starting to wonder if this might end up costing more than I want to spend. I wanted to buy a $1000 beater bike to see if he liked it, but would be stoked and pay a little more for it to be a Blast. And the thousand dollar beater bike that runs doesn't seem to exist. |

So how do I stop the plastic gas tank cover from vibrating? Its fastened in the back but I don't see any thing holding it down in front |

Cheap Blasts are out there. Intake boot is a week link, not a given problem, but its cheap and easy to fix. If a 2000-2001 has more than 5000 miles, the rocker cover gasket has probably been fixed already. Buy one thats stock and your problems are very limited, mostly to stuff from sitting. Its a real simple bike to maintain. |

Bring it over - I can get it running, have extra jets, and boots - need fresh gas, bring that - Eriks probably right about the gasket, and the current owner probably never road it much. What color is it? EZ (Message edited by ezblast on May 07, 2009) |

re vibrating gas tank cover I was sort of hoping that I was missing something because, even with the dipstick tightened down, the tab that fits under the grommet thingmee still has a fair bit of play. Maybe I can cut a rubber washer out of an old tire tube to take up some of the slack (????). Also wasn't there a discussion on here about properly fitting the cover around the filler tube on the gas tank? |

Yes there was discussion about properly fitting the tank cover and its almost impossible to do without an over abundance of patience or clinical OCD. If you have a tank bra that will hinder fit and may increase vibration. 1st: the tank cover must be fitted all the way down on the fuel filler. Many, many times this is not the case and this will increase vibration. 2nd: the dipstick grommet is actually supposed to fit inside the hole of the tank cover and then pressed down. Virtually impossible (see above). Put the tank cover on then put the dipstick 'washer' over it, wide part down. That will hold it on. Then push the rear of the tank cover down while tightening the bolt. You'll find that the washer supplied with the bike is very small and it can be greatly improved by adding a large fender washer to it, that way you wont distort the tank cover. There are other possible reasons it can vibrate, but its usually the tank cover not fitted correctly. Its my pet peeve that on almost every Blast I see, the tank cover isnt pushed all the way down over the filler neck. Hence . On the recent SLO ride it took every ounce of willpower I had not to grab my ratchet and start fixing tank panels! |

Re vibrating tank cover Many thanks, The shop manual spoke not at all on this topic. But from your description it do appear that the washer is on large side up and the cover is definitely not pushed all the way down. BTW, what is "clinical OCD" and does it have a Harley part number |

Erik! My gas tank cover is tight and in place. You'd be proud. Aleutian: Here's a few shots out of my digital camera. The first shows where I cut my bracket for installation. The second shows one of the handlebar mounts. The third is why my wife won't go into the basement any more.

Thanks Reuel, but I've decided to go ahead and sell the windshield and keep the stock one. It will be much easier to switch back and forth between it and the small faring (which I do frequently). I'm not the most decisive person. |
