Over the years there have actually been many changes to the Blast though in appearance it looks the same. Most changes are inconsequential, though some will make a difference and if/when the time comes to restore a 2000 to original condition, this info will be invaluable!

Example: Early 2000-? used phillips head bolts in the handlebar switches instead of allen heads. I dont know the cutoff when they stopped using them, but it was before 2002. Both bolts are interchangeable.

Other parts that come to mind: rear pulley (duh!-recall)belt and cover, speed sensor, speedometer, ignition switch, tail light mount parts, 3rd engine tie bar (deleted), front engine "Do Not Remove" bracket bolts, swingarm, tires, front wheel bearings, front axle spacers, seats (they all look alike, but feel different), engine crankshaft bearings (not sure which ones), bank angle sensor (added later), rocker cover gaskets, front brake line, oil pump drive gear, primary chain tensioner, gas tank rollover valve (recall),clutch inspection cover and/or gasket, headlight/flyscreen brackets and ? Feel free to expound on anything on the list or add to it. It will take quite some to to list all the particulars of each part change.

EZ was saying the front frame area around the "Do Not Remove" bracket was changed, more open to access the bolts.

Great topic by the way!

2006 and later had the new seats - I don't know about the low, however, the regular is comfier than my old stock regular with the gel pad insert and the new material they used seems to be a lot more tear resistant as well.

Yes - Swampy is right - the front frame section there on the 2003 is specked just a bit different than the earlier models for easier access to those do not remove bolts - lol

Not to bicker 3 posts in but...I dont really know if the part numbers ever changed for the them, but there can be a big difference in seats. I used to think low was firm and tall was soft until I saw Scotts low seat. Very soft.
Then the 2000 Blast I bought had probably the best tall seat I'd ever seen or sat on. Firm like a low seat and very comfortable.

I think when Buell changed suppliers for seats for the XB's then the Blast also got included in the deal and so no part number change just upgraded through a better manufacturer.

Like most changes the parts are interchangeable.
Early on it was said that the Dunlop K671(?)rear tire 130/80 would fit on the Blast. Apparently it only fit on some, on others it would rub. Was this due to a minor swingarm change when they went to the 80 tooth pulley after the recall on the 2000 model year? (if I remember I'll put the 2 side by side and take some measurements, unless somebody already knows what the change was).
2000 swingarm pt# K1100.T
2001 swingarm pt# K1100.01A7
2005 swingarm pt# K1100.6A7
(California and international uses different part numbers)

Front wheel bearing changed so did the Axle and likely the fork lowers, well at least the right fork lower the left might have only needed a new sleeve.

The only changes I have are the axle spacer and wheel bearings. All the other part numbers are exactly the same (except the wheel assembly). The 2000 spacer has the washer as one piece with the spacer. Later models used a separate washer and spacer.
The wheel assembly changed, but that includes the bearings. I do not know if the actual wheel changed or if the bearings are interchangeable? (never seen the 2 bearings side by side)

2000 Blast:
bearings pt# E6204
left side axle spacer pt# G0113.T
Wheel assembly pt# G0110.T

2001-2005 Blast:
bearings pt# E0001.T
left side axle spacer pt# G0113.01A7
Wheel assembly pt# G1110.TWAX

I think the wheels are the same, the bearings are the same outer diameter different inner diameter the axle is bigger around. I bought a 6204 bearing, installed it and realized after wards that my forks were replaced with 01's in my wreak...very annoying actually...6204 are $7 E0001.T is 19.95 from a Buell dealer and $27 from the three bearing houses that I found that sold them

The plot thickens:
2000 axle pt# G0120.T Bearing E6204
2005 axle pt# G0120.T Bearing E0001.T
I matched up axles from 2000 and 2002 front ends and with a 2002 wheel and bearings and 2000 front fork. Except for a minor difference in axle ends, everything was the same.
A 6204 bearing does not match up in any way to the E0001.T. Inner and outer dimensions are both different.
So something is amiss. Is the parts manual plainly wrong (no surprise). Is there a rare 2000 front end that uses a big axle and wheel with rear bearings? Was there a recall?

I might be wrong, I may not have installed the bearing, it's rather fuzzy I just remember being pissed that the Buell bearing (eooo1.t) was my only choice (and it was gonna take a least a week. My front end was part of what was rebuilt but according to the receipt they kept the front wheel which is why I was pretty certain that the OD was the same.

the rear bearings I get from my local bearing house for $6 and I change them every 2 years regardless

Thanks. That pretty much leaves it up to the parts manual being wrong (but I still dont doubt there may be some oddball Blast parts out there).
Time leaves things fuzzy for me too, one reason I started this thread. I start to forget what fits what and where certain things came from.

I did a rather exhaustive search of the front wheel bearings some time back. I could get them for $4 or so each, if I ordered 5000. I found one that was a dual race bearing, but it was 1/16" wider. I was really tempted to make some modifications for them to fit. I figured they'd probably last longer.

OK, for the 2000 Blast Front Wheel, the E6204 is a mis-print. That's actually the number for the REAR wheel bearings, and also the swingarm bearings. That is a standard bearing designation you can take to any bearing supplier.

The correct bearings for the 2000 Blast Front wheel are E0001.T, same as all the others. Standard bearing type is E6203R, the "R" meaning it has 16.5mm width - that's important, as there is another suffix that comes after the basic designation to indicate it has Rubber seals on both sides - "2R", I think.

You COULD use a regular 6203 on the left side - the spacer would take care of the "extra" width.

I have used a standard 6203 on the left, I keep one as a spare but it puts the Axle nut at the end of the threads and that I'm not particularly comfortable with

Ah, good point - you'd really need a cut-down spacer to make it right.

I read this with great interest, but, If I buy a very gently used Yellow '03, as I've found recently, at a nice price from a single owner, is this nearly as good a purchase, than buying a new '09 model. In other words, have changes from 2003 to present been so nearly insignificant as to be a complete non issue. I'm asking because I just don't want to settle for an older model however well cared for if buying the newest model will yield any tangible benefit. I know how to fettle and work on my own stuff, but just never have the time to do any significant wrenching. New is new and used is used. My work is just too time consuming to do anymore than normal maintenance. Thanks to a wonderful Board for the reply's.

It would depend on the miles - if it had at least 5000 miles - probably be ok - less would mean it sat for a while and would make me wonder.

Thanx Ezblast, but I'm really trying to get a year by year breakdown of what changes if any were applied between lets say '03 to present, whether they were minor or otherwise. Doesn't appear to be much other than color's offered.

If you are planning on riding it alot, a used one is the way to go as you will be putting tires on it frequently, every 2000-6000 miles depending on tire choice and riding habits.

They are very minor changes and nothing of any mechanical or cosmetic significance to warrant buying new, between 03 & 09.
Your real question is still, new or used?
$4700 for new, full warranty & no problems (theoretically and any problems should be covered).
$2000 used and all the potential problems that go with it. Low mileage should need very little maintenance and a well taken care of bone stock Blast shouldnt need much of anything and certainly nothing major.

Headlight upgrade:
Old Headlight assembly part # Y0400.T $69.
New Headlight assembly part # Y0400.TA $170!!!

I do not know the difference, but my guess is the newer assembly uses a replaceable H4 bulb, where the old assembly uses a sealed beam.

Since I had the 2000 rear pulley recall problem just crop up on me and cause some damage I'd like to find out what parts are interchangeable between years. Need new rear rim, pulley, and belt to put on a 2000. In the recall, what did they replace the rear pulley with? Did anything else have to be changed because of it?
