Unfortunately my experience in the MSF course here in SC was quite different. The instructors were absolutely great. BUT... The equipment was HORRIBLE and probably should have been retired 10 years ago. Of course, I had my own gear so I didn't have to endure a helmet that was literally falling apart. Some of the others did use the provided helmets and it was nasty to say the least. I did get a bike assigned to me that wouldn't go into neutral and would barely shift out of first. I'm quite short so it was one of two that I somewhat fit on. The other was taken by a lady even shorted than me. There was ONE extra bike and it was a 15+ year old ragged out dirtbike. In fact, all of the bikes were totally ragged out. Sooooo... While the experience was OK and allowed me to brush up on skills, if I had it to do over again, I'd probably go out of town and take the Riders Edge course. If I hadn't already been a rider taking the MSF course on their awful equipment would have been VERY discouraging to me. Just my two cents worth! |

At Greenville tech they used the honda rebel. They were all in fine running condition except for neutral. It was explained as a defect in the bikes that they don't want to go into neutral once they are warm, besides that everything was fine. I'm going to take a guess and say it depends on whose offering the course (both MSF and Riders Edge). When you sign up ask what kind of bikes they are using and if possible ask to take a look at em. |

My MSF class was at Horry-Georgetown Tech. They had all sorts of bikes (everything from Rebels to Suzuki Intruders to the old Yamaha dirtbikes). Literally out of the 12 bikes in the class there were about 6 different models. They were all worn slam damn out. I was on one of the Suzuki pieces of crap. The problems I and others in my class experienced weren't due to design flaws. They were simply caused by cobbled together junker motorcycles that should have NEVER been allowed out of the garage. Your suggestion about looking at the bikes is valid except for the fact that usually there is no one at the tech schools with access to the bikes during the week. You'd need to casually "drop-by" during a class to see what you'd actually be getting. I would also suggest people taking the classes on their own bikes (allowable from what I was told as long as you start and finish the class on the same bike). That would have saved me some grief and I am sure I would have enjoyed the experience much more if I hadn't been fighting the POS Suzuki to get it to do everything. |

Sorry cdale_sam, cant help you much. With chips out of the rotor it will probably still work, just be sure its not coming completely apart on you. Reuel:not sure what you need. RY and BK & OW to the tail light. BN & V going to the directionals with BK common also going to the tail. All 5 wires going through a 6 wire connector (according to the wiring diagram). edited for accuracy-my apologies for the incorrect info (Message edited by gearheadErikO on April 28, 2009) |

Thanks, Erik. Just need more details. BN and V are turn. Which is left and which is right? Seems OW is the common (thought it would be black). If RY and BK go to the tail only, which one is the brake light, and which one is the taillight? Second thought, don't sweat it. I can grab my meter and figure it out. I do need to know which wire is which for left and right, though. Thanks! |

Sorry, I was really tired. BN & BK is Right Rear. V & BK is LR. Taillight is RY, BK , OW. I have no idea how I read in the schematic what I had previously posted. |

I am in kansas,in a rural area, I took private lessons with an MSF instructor. He had his own bikes, so the 1st time I was on a honda 200cc (twin something maybe?)anyways, looked like an old CB model and i really did not care for it but at least the bike ran fine and the other ones were also in pretty good shape, the other one he offered to me was a rebel but after sitting on it, I declined for my second lesson, as we agreed previously, I brought my(then) Ninja 250 and was able to finish my classes and pass the test with it. I cant speak for group classes, but I am sure glad I opted for the private ones !!! I feel that I was able to learn a lot more at a faster pace that way than in a group setting. If available, I recommend anyone to dish out the extra $$$ and spoiled themselves with private lessons! The whole learning experience was PRICELESS! |

My MSF class in Indy was excellent. It was at a dealer, Dreyer Motorsports. All of the bikes were new. It was a mix of Suzuki 250s, Star 250's, and some Honda Rebel 250s. Considering that the class was only $50, I couldn't believe the quality. I asked around, and it was because the dealer was supporting it. They actually end up selling about 2 bikes per class to participants, so I guess it works out |

GS-the more post you make the 'higher' your status. I dont know the 'ranking' titles, but there was another thread recently on this elsewhere on Badweb (do a search). |

Clutch diode flip: http://www.badweatherbikers.com/buell/messages/201 64/55319.html The kickstand safety switch wires just need to be joined/tied/crimped/soldered together. Concuring with EZ! |

AK Blastin, Low speed jet?? I'd give that a scrub and then wash some Seafoam through it. Mine had the same issue back when I had 93 more dollars in my pocket and hadn't gone to the dealer. _____________________ Firing order: 1 |

I bought a used Vance & Hines muffler, got everything but the bracket that attaches to the front of the motor. The missing piece (circled in red) attaches the header clamp to the muffler mount on the front of the crankcase, part VHR Bracket #311. Anyone got one laying around they don't need? I might fabricate one, so if you have a V&H, about how thick is it and what kind of metal?

Its a piece of steel about twice the thickness of the pipe clamp. Not complicated. Have you called V & H? |

I might call V&H Monday if I don't figure it out by then. I'm pretty sure I can just make one. |

Hey, look what he found in his garage this morning. He'll get it in the mail, so I'm good. Gonna pull the primary cover to replace the detent plate and looks like rain for the next week, so no riding for me anyway.

Can't find the thread again, but I swear I saw it on this forum The way I remember this(note I've never done this myself) was to lean the bike way over one way. Position a jack stand under one side of the swing arm. You would then lean it back and it would pivot up onto the jack stand and lift the other side so that you could get the 2nd jack stand under the other side of the swing arm. Your rear tire should then be raised off the ground. Note: the reason I've never tried this is that it would seem to me that pivoting it on a jack stand like that would gouge the swing arm metal and at the very least to a number on the paint. Not sure what your budget looks like, but buying an actual wheel lift would be your best bet. I'm about to change my belt and just picked up one of these \newurl {http://www.bobscycle.com/browse.cfm/4,23331.html} They seem to run about $100 depending on where you get them but it would probably be your safest bet. |
