So I pulled the tank and found that the PVC was indeed weeping a bit. There was a pretty good path that the oil had made down through to the front left quad of the engine. I pulled the PCV and grommet, cleaned and de-oiled them, and put a thin coat of ultra black (oil resist.) RTV on the mating surfaces. I then reassembled and am in the process of waiting... I took a fairly long ride yesterday -about 280 miles round trip- and the bike performed splendidly. I held about 70-75mph on the interstate for about 3.5 hours of the trip. I was noticing a wet air box and wiped it off with each rest/refuel stop. This morning, when I had it off, I blew into the PVC and it seems to be working properly. I also put plastic ties on the breather hose in the airbox as the connections at the "T" seemed a bit loose and would be prone to a capillary-style leakage. -i.e. wicking around the barbs of the "T" instead of blowing into the carb throat, like it's s'posed to. Anybody else experience this?? What was the fix? I was quite pleased with the interstate manners of the bike. The fuel mileage on the way to my destination was between 43 and 44mpg (96 miles / 2.2 gallons) and the return trip was between 55 and 56mpg (100 miles / 1.8 gallons. I blame the ambient temps for this. When I left at 6 in the morning, it was 33 degrees. The first hour to hour and a half were below 40deg and when I arrived it was about 42 degrees. I'm not sure the enricher can fully shut off when the temps are this low and there's a 70mph breeze. -There were no other bikes on the road to ask... Thoughts?? The return trip was better. Temps were in the upper 60's to low 70's. Good runnings and many more bikes on the road. _______________________ Firing order: 1 (Message edited by Awf_Hand on April 18, 2009) (Message edited by Awf_Hand on April 18, 2009) |

With Temps hittin high 90's to low 100's past few days it's almost too hot to ride in the middle of the day. Maggie, I wish you could be out here for the SLO ride too. Sounds like you have ALOT of adventures to share. |

Okay, just got in my superbike bars yesterday and have got them about 50% on the bike (i.e. no controls yet!). I had no idea how cramped I was before with the stock bars...and the seating position is way better. Looking forward to finishing tonight and riding to work all the rest of the week. By the way, I literally had to take a razor and cut my old grips off of the handlebars. I had read on the forum that compressed air should always work for removing old grips. Not so! |

The forecast here is finally improving. Its not like we don't need the rain but it only rains on the days I have time to ride! This weekend is going to be perfect, high 70s low 80s and sunny! Just in time for Cherokee. Quick question, anyone know of a GOOD replacement headlight that is not sealed? |

I would say the grip coming off with a blow gun is a rarity. Mine were glued on better than today's space shuttle tiles... |

Hola blasters , Hope we're all out enjoying the spring blastin about. So my 2000 blast presented problems that after checking out trouble shooting made me think das boot (ie trouble starting and death when throttle applied). I have just finished replacing das boot and when I turn it over it sounds as tho the engine isn't catching. The starter pulls over (at lease i believe that's what the whirling sound is) but nuthing that sounds like firing. Anyone had this problem? (mind you this is first bike i've workd on but twas not that hard) |

My assumption is that you havent ridden it all winter? My guess is the clogged slow jet (for starters). Check for spark and/or pull off the timing cover and check the LED is flashing when cranked. |

New Thread: Hopefully build a kinship between the women who Blast and they can discuss the unique things that only a small minority of riders (women) would experience or understand. http://www.badweatherbikers.com/buell/messages/201 64/454781.html?1240547239 Gentlemen-dont post! |

so f finally got time to address my low top end problem. i replaced my high speed jet from 175 to a 180, and this made a significant difference, though i cant see how this year would be any different than last, when i had no problem with the 175, unless this ethanol in the gas is a contributing factor. Also when i replaced the jet i also replaced my boot, the old one was starting to crack from the inside out, not thru yet, but it wouldnt take much longer. Not too bad for the stock boot on an 03 blast! (though no one really rode it til i bought it!) I also replaced the paper gasket between the airbox and the carb, as well as the cracked venturi on the inside of the airbox. All that and 2 new Pirelli's and im all set for some spring/ summer riding!! Got to love the weather right now, it was 80 up here in central Maine, yesterday, with predicted highs in the 70's today!! Much better than the mid 30's that i was riding in during the start of March. Thanks everyone for all the help, it was greatly appreciated. |

Help! My maintenance manual is in Delaware and I'm in Virginia! Can someone tell me the color codes for the wires in the harness going to the taillight? I'm putting together a signal controller and I have to make sure I get it right but I don't want to wait for the weekend. |

Crackhead-I took the MSF course last summer. MSF focuses on teaching and making the student comfortable. I was very satisfied with the course and instructor. I would double check the riders edge course before signing up, I haven't heard many good things about it. Here in SC they offer the course through Greenville tech where as the Harley dealer here won't even acknowledge Buell. I would much rather learn from someone who enjoys teaching new riders than from someone is just collecting a paycheck. |
