Yeehaw! Got my new wheel, and I'm putting it on this weekend! Won't be able to get the plate updated until wednesday, but I'm Blasting again! Now if I could get all these LED systems done for others so I can have time to my ignition project ... |

Anybody have a problem where the blinkers stopped working. Everything else works fine, but the blinkers are out. All at once. |

Check to see if you're getting power to your flasher relay. One wire is ground, another is 12 volts. If you're getting them both, short the 12 volt wire to the third wire while your blinker switch is in left or right. The dash light should come on, with the lights from one side. If they do, your flasher relay is toast. If nothing happens, or if you don't get 12 volts on one wire and continuity to ground on the other, you have a wiring problem. Do the blinkers have their own fuse? I don't think they do, but I never really looked that closely. On another note, I got my 2001 Blast in February of 2001, on Valentine's Day. That means I've had her for more than 8 years now. She sat in my garage, not running since I complained about my wheel problem back in August. Talk about serious withdrawal! That's the longest I've ever gone without riding my Blast. So, anyway, I just started her up without any problems. I'm still using the original battery! My apologies to those who have replaced their batteries on their 2006 Blasts. (Message edited by reuel on April 10, 2009) |

Recently i noticed a significant loss in top end power. Usually i can get 90 mph easy and the other day it was having a hard time reaching 80! i havent done anything to it recently, last year i installed a jardine exhaust, rejetted to 48/175, and added a K&N air filter, which greatly improved performance. I have been riding in cold weather this spring (25-40 deg) and the other day was around 50 or so, this was the only thing that was different. Any thoughts?? thank you |

Rob - Primary too tight? EZ |

the primary should be fine, i adjusted that at my last oil interval correctly and have had no problem since then until now, that was the end of last summer/fall. Here in Maine they have required all gas stations incorporate 10% ethanol in all gas, what kind of effect is this going to have on our nice little bike i wonder. Up here snowmobile engines have been blowing up due to the ethanol and we have to put an additive into our gas to prevent it. |

Check your boot as well, its one of the first symptoms. And as long as you mean that you did not adjust your primary according to the manual, then that should be ok, also. The gas would just shoot out your mileage. EZ |

Concur! As far as the gas, I've been noticing some 'running on' issues with 2 of my bikes. The primary chain and boot seem likely culprits, but we may have to wait for more symptoms for more ideas. |

Alright guys, new set of issues. I can start it a little bit, it will turn over and begin to run but I have to hold the throttle open. When it dies a big puff of white smoke will shoot out of the carb. I am now thinking it has too much fuel going to it so I should rejet back to stock. I currently have a 175/45 with a Vance and Hines exhaust and a velocity stack with a K & N filter. |

45/175 is fine. You really have to go really way off with the jetting to have major problems. Too rich would be a good assumption, is it possible you've not put it together right? I dont know what you've already done (but, besides the boot) its sounds as if your timing could be way off also (if you adjusted it). There could be other problems, but I've got to go work on my Blast for a change! Have you done anything with the spark plug? Bad gap, fouled plug or wire partially off could also cause this. |

I just changed the plug, I'll pull it and check the gap. While I'm down there I'll check the wire too. I haven't touched the timing but I guess it could be screwed up. |

YAY 163.50 for a wb exhaust and header on fleabay... Now, what do i need to do to make it reliable and get that good power out of it? I am switching from a V&H so I have already jetted and shimmed, have the tall velocity stack and outerwears filter. |

You need to order the stock lower front mounting hardware - use it, it is much better than what they supply - 10 bucks total - you may or may not need to rejet once again - what is your current jetting? Need 1/2" longer bolts and 11 more discs for max power - no torque cone. Packing? - whats that - lol DK make sure your grounds are good, clean, and tight as well. DK-I'm sure you havent screwed up the timing. If you didnt touch it, its still good (or the same!) Dwine'- Definitely dont use the torque cone (if it came with it) and from what I remember you'll need to order extra discs (23 total?).You'll need to keep up on the packing. Every 25-30 hours running time (from what WB told me)! If you install as is, it will likely fail. Sorry, I dont mean to put a dampener on your purchase, but I'm not a big fan of the WB's reliability. Had one (its well documented here) and after I got the 4th muffler for it, I practically gave it away.I even had a spare muffler just so I could still ride while repacking LOL! Great performance, lousy reliability. Ironically, I now use one on my raceBlast. Straight through, no baffles and run only on the racetrack (WB's intended purpose-so I was told). well, may or may not sell the v&h as i have read about the reliability issue, but definately will look into strengthening the can before i install it. was a great price and hard to pass up from a performance standpoint. hoping i get just a little more low end grunt out of it. btw, where can i buy discs? |

I'd just install the can and fix it when/if it breaks. If installed as EZ has posted (somewhere), it may last forever! |

Just to whine a little to people who have always been the best listeners I know: My wife took the Riders Edge course this weekend. Cost $350. Local MSF course cost $35. So 10x more, right? What a disaster for her. The whole reason I went with H-D was they promised small class size, high instructor/student ratio and well maintained Buell Blasts. Well, class size was 10, 2 instructors. (we were told 3 instructors and max class size 9). My wife is nervous in public, and doesn't like to have attention brought on her. Unfortunately, they gave her a Blast that would not idle on it's own. They did not have another extra bike to swap out. So she spent the first day fighting to keep it running, not learning how to ride it. The second day, they had another bike brought up from the basement that had an enrichner stuck on. It overreved so much the instructor told her to skip some skills practice. He told her to bring it in next to the building... as it was running very fast, it began to get away from her, she panicked and locked it up and crashed hard. When test time came, the bike began backfiring and smoking... then one huge backfire and it quit and would not restart. By now she is in absolute tears. They began testing the rest of the class and told her she would not be able to test on any of the other bikes unless she wanted to come back when they offer another session. She would be required to attend the entire 2 day (8am to 5pm) Sat and Sunday class (which they ran on Easter Sunday) to be eligible to test at the end of the second day. She said bullshit- I'm out of here and left with nothing but bruises on her pride and body. The class spent so much time touring the facility and meeting with sales managers. What a waste. I'm pissed. I want my money back |

That's horrible... no excuse for that. I was at a bargain MSF and they at least had plenty of descent running Rebel's and Nighthawks... when one wasn't running right, they pulled another from the trailer... problem solved. I don't know if you'll get all of your money back, but you should be able to get back the portion that doesn't go to MSF. Or at the least they should run her through again for free and this time ensure she has a properly running bike. Having a girlfriend with the same disposition of the public view, I completely understand your frustration, and glad we skipped the HD MSF (for multiple reasons). |

I'd be sending the above to the MSF. They can't be putting on "courses" like this for new riders. Your dealership should hear from higher ups. |

I agree. Not only should the MSF hear it, but the folks running Rider's Edge in Milwaukee. Students should be guaranteed a safe, reliable, well-running bike. |

Robdog88, Stupid question but....were you against the rev limiter in 4th gear maybe? Top end in 4th is 80 MPH. I have been there done that before. If that isn't the problem look for a lean condition. |
