Ooops... I just did the Engine and Trans with this stuff. Don't remember why... I had a list of recommended oil with me when I went into the parts store. Something made me go this route after I saw it. |

And trans? I dont think you should be using non-synthetic engine oil in the trans. Wardo: Aahh, we barely new thee. Ride safe. |

Evilbetty- Don't worry I get very distracted by pretty lights and...oooo look at that bike...wait where was I? Oh yea Parts Stores put up displays to distract you from what you were there to buy in the first place. |

Well I was buying Mobile 4T 10W40 Full Synthetic for the Tiger... at $10 a quart... And I had something else picked out for the blast (can't remember what) when I saw the Castrol 4T 20W50 sitting next to it. I think I thought it was synthetic... that's the only thing I can imagine... Is 20W50 not the right viscosity for the engine and trans for 40F + riding? |

Anyone looking for another bike? This was just posted. $1200 for a 2000, 1k on the bike. Waiting to hear back if it's been stored for 9 years with a half tank of gas... http://kansascity.craigslist.org/mcy/1093252456.ht ml |

Mobil 1 15W-50 is what I went in looking for, I remember but couldn't find it anywhere locally... I picked up some other recommended 20W50, but when I saw the Castrol 4T 20W50 right next to the Mobil 1 4T, I blindly assumed it was synthetic... So can I run this for a while or do I need to get it out of the bike ASAP? |

At 10$ a quart why not search out an Amsoil dealer for the best quality stuff out there. They get $10.70/qt for their 20w50 MC oil. Your engine won't grenade with a non-synthetic. You should be fine. Just know what you're getting next time. ______________________ Firing order: 1 |

If you plan to ride in less than 50 degrees Fahrenheit, 10W40 is a good choice.. |

Do not run regular non-synthetic (dino) engine oil in the transmission. |

If you get on it hard or for distance - change it out, otherwise you should be ok. Sycho - getting another bike? What kind? EZ |

If the 4T 20w-50 is synthetic you are probably okay. If its regular dino oil, change it now. Clutch plate damage may be irreversible. If its good now, it'll be good in the future (synthetic). |

Yikes... Will simply doing a regular fluid change be enough or do I need to do something more invasive to get the old oil out? |

The liberal use of gravity should take care of your oil situation. |

When you are cruising at 30 mph what gear are you in? Just curious. |

If I'm cruising in 2nd at 30mph the rear view mirrors are useful. In third, not so much. ______________________ Firing order: 1 |

Welcome Zipper! Well if you've done everything right (and reading your profile I assume so), the next step is the shifter pawl adjustment. Did you adjust the chain to factory specs (but 7-8 flats instead of 4 out)? Grind to first may be 'normal', but can be avoided with practice. Is it just neutral to first or all gears? (sorry, without punctuation, your post was a little confusing) |

Erik after riding it a bit last night I felt a little apprehensive about the whining noise. So today I backed it out one more flat to 8. It seems to sound better. Zipper is your user name after your pic in your profile? |

Zipper, it sounds like your clutch is hanging up and keeping things spinning when you're trying to shift. I'd start be rechecking adjustments there. You've got the proper lube in the tranny and primary case right? The wrong lube won't let the clutch plates do their job. _____________________ Firing order: 1 |

thanks for the responses. my wifes blast has 9000 hard miles. i have adjusted this thing so many times. the clutch does not slip but does grab near the end of its throw. it seams to grind when going into first and always when down shifting. when she down shifts i can her it from my bike. you can double clutch it some times and it seams to work better. maybe i should replace the clutch. |
